Mutable Instruments AMBIKA

"One word -- AMBIKA!
As a synth head you would know and need little encouragement to get a bit excited.

This one is from the final ever production run of 2014, white enamelled case, beautiful wooden cheeks.
Built to spec by the inimitable and perfectionist Cleaning Lady in Melbourne early 2015.

This Ambika comes with 3 voice cards ( i had always intended to hear the three originals and decide which to duplicate and install later.)
Installed are:
4P filter
SMR4 Filter
SVF Filter.
( there is now a company manufacturing new AMBIKA compatible voice cards _ tubeohm -- google em their cards are around 75 Euros each _installed and you can ship your unit to them to install fully guaranteed- they also have a couple of VERY cool new voice cards )"

Mutable Instruments Shruthi-1 Resurrected by Laurentide SynthWorks

via Laurentide SynthWorks

"This is a resurrection of the classic and highly loved Mutable Instruments Shruthi-1. Initially I will be offering the Control PCB, preprogrammed chips and the 4PM (4 Pole Mission) filter board. Eventually I will begin putting kits together for each of the boards as well as the other discontinued filter's.

When the Shruthi line was discontinued (with the exception of the SMR-4 kit & case, which is still available from Mutable Instruments) I began discussions with Olivier (mad code scientist behind Shruthi and all things Mutable) on continuing it's legacy. Along with TubeOhm in Europe, we will be supplying Shruthi PCB's back to the DIY community under our company names respectively.

On 3/11/2015 I will begin selling the Shruthi Control PCB, pre-programmed chips, 4PM filter and custom dark grey translucent plexi-case. The PCB's are manufactured by the same company Mutable Instruments used and the cases are manufactured by MI forum member fcd72, who also makes the official clear plexi-cases."

Update: date corrected from 3/15/2015 to 3/11/2015 above.

New Synth Gear and Makers in January 2015

After this year's massive New Years post, I thought it might be interesting to see how many new makers and new gear announcements we received in a single month.

This may or may not become a monthly theme on the site depending on interest.  If you think it's worth while, leave a comment.

At a high level we had 12 new makers, one new old maker previously never featured on the site, and a whopping 193 new synth related products. Check out the module list below.  The list is a combination of what was either announced or released this month.

The list in order of appearance:

Shruthi-1 Programmer / Editor with 3 Voiceboards

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"The Shruthi is a hybrid digital/analog monosynth.
Its hardware design is deceptively simple, but the sonic range is wide: sometimes grungily digital like a PPG-Wave, fat
and funky like a SH-101, videogame-y like a Commodore 64, weird and warm like an ESQ-1 ; but more often than not, truly original.

Contrary to the hardware you can purchase at the music shop next door, a Shruthi isn’t designed to be industrially manufactured.
Indeed, its assembly doesn’t require any specialized equipment, besides a screwdriver, cutters, a soldering iron and two hands.

You will receive a fully assembled, tested and working Shruthi-1 "Editor" with two Voice/Filter-boards and the "Hardware" Editor in one case.
With the "digital" Programmer you are defining and editing the sounds directly on the synth. Each Filterboard has it's own audio in and output (6,3mm) and
is midi controllable.

The installed voice/filtercards are:

- Roland IR3109 Filterboard (Demo of the actual unit) with Original Roland IR3109 Chips and Capacitors.
- Tubeohm Ladder VCF (Demos can be found here)

The third voice/filtercard is the SVF Filter from Mutable Instruments:
- Demo"

Shruthi Poly Demo

"This is a demo of 29 different sounds played polyphonically on 6 different Shruthi synthesizers, from Mutable Instruments, using a MidiPal to assign notes to each monophonic synthesizer. There are 2 ladder filters (from TubeOhm), 2 4PM filters, one SMR4 MK1 filter and one SMR4 MK2 filter in the group. If you listen carefully (or not so carefully on some of the samples), you can hear the variations caused by the different filters.

I just played whatever came into my head when I heard the patch, and it’s one take per sample, no overdubbing (mistakes and all that). There’s a bit of Saffire reverb added, and recording was done with Reaper. The patches are from the stock set, FunkyFli’s bank, TubeOhm’s bank, some stuff from Gadget Fiend and a few others.

Some of the patches were edited slightly by me to help them work polyphonically. Use headphones if possible, the six instruments are panned across the stereo field and bounce around a bit.
