Synth movie themes from the vault- Francis Monkman (the long good friday) remix

YouTube via mik300z
"Always loved this soundtrack, and its not heard very often. Also very hard to find a stereo recording of it. Francis Monkman was a great synth player and composer. This is a cover, but I kept the original sax part (no synth can replace a real sax played by a real sax player!) Took me a long time to sample it and bring it back into the track, but ableton is one powerful tool. Lots of EQing and compression/delays etc. Hope you like it!
Juno 6- sequence, bass
Ensoniq ESQ1 - sequencer, sawtooth bass
Juno G - Elec piano
Microkorg-strings
Akai s3000 - drums, opening countdown
Ableton live 7- recorder /arranger and effects"

Sequencing a Roland Juno 6

YouTube Uploaded by mik300z on Mar 21, 2012

"Ha! just figured out i could run the Juno into the yamaha and use its sequencer.. Juno 6 and 60 were pre-midi but luckily for me my little baby had a kenton kit installed when i bought it. You can play around with VST's all day but sequencing analogue is something special when you know you're not supposed to be doing it at all;)....why did I spell discovered wrong?!! I dunno ,oh well its stuck there now"

The black the white and the beautiful

YouTube via mik300z. some synth spotting.
"For the colours I see so often and the sounds they make. This is a long video but I hope you can see it to the end, It was much longer and I had to chop the beginning and end to fit it into the YT 10 minutes. it was completely unrehearsed and i was in the middle of trying to revamp my future electric track, then got a headache from the drums and sequencing , so basically justed kicked into the piano, ..and this came out! hope you like it:)"

How to make your Microkorg sound REALLY retro!!

YouTube via mik300z
"I've been asked by a few people to share the parameters on this Roland vp-330 like strings patch, so here it is. After inputting these settings exactly you'll have this lovely warm vintage string sound as is heard in the little track I made for the video (inspired by Vangelis' Bounty soundtrack).
I have about 6 variations of it, if you use the phaser on mod fx instead of ensemble it gives a really nice Jarre-like sound too....enjoy!"

Space - Magic Fly (Cover)

YouTube via mik300z. via fischek. You can find the original and other cover (actually by fischek) here.
"my version of another 70's electro classic. It's taken me a while to get the production right, as I wanted the drums as tight as possible (kind of eric pryds style) but to stay true to the original with it's great spacious sound. It's all been lost on youtube's mono mushy decoding , but if you click the link, there's a high quality FLV stereo version at myspace

Vangelis "Spiral" cover

YouTube via mik300z. Update: stereo version embedded.
"Juno 6 and 106 hard at work here! Just some background info for this cover version. Because I needed almost every sound to come from the analogue juno 6 which does not have patch memory and impossible to sync the arpeggiator clock to the ESQ sequencer, I had to make the track in 2 stages. First, I recorded the Juno 6 alone in the arp. part the whole way through, manually adjusting the PWM and envelope through the chords. Then played it back through the mixer while adding some percussion and bringing in the 106 for the sequenced bass and try and sync the 2 tracks . This time I was adjusting the juno6's parameters in real time to flick between the slow attack chords and fast attack melodyline. It sounds too heavy in the melodyline I know, I just wish I had 3 or 4 more Junos in my setup to assign each one for the different patches. So as you see some of the music and video sometimes sounds out of sync, it was the only way i could do it. This was one of those times I would love a huge studio with real drums and percussion instruments and just go crazy lol! Also thanks to my 9 year old daughter Hannah who did the video, she's getting pretty handy with the camera!"

Giorgio Moroder synth jam

YouTube via mik300z
"Based on "here to eternity". This was all going swell until the ESQ1 drifted out of pitch near the end (not my bum notes for a change lol) Some Human league influence here too:)"

Arpeggio motion

YouTube via mik300z
"another demo of various synth sounds made live using the Juno 6 arpeggiator as a platform. I've also improved the microkorg strings to sound more like the vp-330.
I also got a nice effect from the juno 106 using it's portamento switch and LFO"

1973 Minimoog plays Tangerine dream- Logos (cover)

YouTube via mik300z | Mar 2, 2011 |

"A good friend has loaned me his minimoog for a while, I want to make the most of it:) This is one of my favourite TD tracks. Think I found the sweet spot on the moog although the tune/tracking is a little off. I re-created the pads/chords using the juno 6. Took me a day to get those to sound close to the original. Thanks for watching!"

Vangelis- Earth- We were all uprooted- Performed live -

YouTube via mik300z
"A piece from Vangelis' first solo album "Earth". Thanks to a certain youtuber (cheers Phil) who sent me the album at the beginning of the summer, It just grows on you, the unique unworldly atmospherics of organ and percussion. Hope you like the video, tried to keep everything like 1974!
Akai s3000- percussion and rain effect
Juno G- organ, jamisen ,percussion, whistle, thunder
Microkorg and Juno 106 -bass
Juno 6 -haunting lead
Korg x5 - mandolin
Drum sequence- ESQ1"

Update:
Vangelis Earth part deux --- the madness

"Joining the band are my garden windchime and a maracus I stole from the kids:) A crazy improv, the studio was still set from the first vid , so I thought I would have a very self indulgent go at keeping the ambience and sense of old skool ,keeping in mind Vangelis' work from this period......"

Vangelis tribute - To the unknown man

YouTube via mik300z
"Another of my Vangelis improvs. Nothing to do with the original vangelis track by the same name .Big use of the Cs80 brass sound from the ESQ1 [comes in at 1:18], hope you like it! My own composition , has a theme running through it, very scattered but hopefully his style with my awful piano skills lol"
