"We were able to chat with the sound designer behind many of u-he's patches across their instrument range. Howard Scarr is well known for his sound design and patch work being hired by Hans Zimmer for The Dark Knight. Viktor Weimer has been creating patches for the u-he range for some years, and Urs Heckmann of course is where the company takes its name and is the chief architect of their range.

The patches were created in Hive 2.1 -the .1 being after Urs added some extra features to Hive to allow for more creative sound design. Specifically in the filter types plus a few other features.

MFM2 is our over-the-top digital delay plug-in. You can create anything from subtle textured echos to huge spacey reverbs, from wild tonal steps on a pad to rhythmic deconstruction of a drum track. Kinesis comprises an arsenal of organic grooves, snappy generative arpeggios, evolving sequences and lush ambient pads, several of which employ Hive’s special filter modes.

Most of the presets react to MIDI velocity, modulation wheel and pitch bend.

All presets include XY pad control, which not only appears in Hive’s XY panel, but also in Hive’s preset browser (as a row of 8 knobs) as well as on NKS hardware.

Our favourite heavenly delay MFM2 has just taken a giant leap forward. Most obviously, we replaced the spacey 3D disk UI with a much more practical design. Less obvious is that version 2.5 is our very first product that supports CLAP (see cleveraudio.org), and more CLAP-compatibility updates are in the pipeline.
