"Its alright"

YouTube via TheSynthFreq | June 23, 2010 | 4:41

"Hi! :)
This is a new composition written 6-19-10.
We have a special guest joining us, our best friend Rachel is performing the synth strings patch using the Roland D-50 (original patch) controlled through the Roland A-90. She has only played synths for 4 DAYS, she's awesome!! :)
Crystal (msMotif6) is playing the Motif6, the organ, cymbals, and synth patch are played by her.
I am playing the lead on the Roland Alpha Juno-1. The track on the Motif6 , the Rhodes, and the drums were written and sequenced by me. :)

Please enjoy!! :)

Roland A-90 EX: VE-RD1 Expansion board (VE-RD1: remove or exchange)

YouTube via TheSynthFreq | July 05, 2010

"Hi. :) This is a short video on how to locate the VE-RD1 circuit board and how to remove/exchange it without having to open the whole synth up. A viewer has asked some great questions about the A-90 and this video and a future video on the A-90's battery replacement is to try to help answer some of those questions. Please let me know if any clarification in needed. :) If anyone else has any advice as well, please comment and add your insights on the topic. :)

"Ocean" : Alpha Juno-1/D-50

YouTube via TheSynthFreq
"Hi. This is a chilled out composition written for the Alpha Juno-1. The lead sound is a modification of the E-guitar patch that I have programmed for it. This new lead patch is mono with mild portamento effect added for texture at the attack phase of the sound. The release phase of the patch is also modified to add length to the sound after the key is released. Since it is mono, it can not become over saturated with distortion when playing notes consecutively, the release time only takes effect as after touch.
Synths used: Roland D-50- strings/pads Roland Alpha Juno-1: Lead patch Yamaha Motif-6: DX-7ish tines/chords (1 track) Yamaha QX-3: not used
Please enjoy. :)

"Peacefully"

YouTube via TheSynthFreq — "May 08, 2010 — Hi. :) This is a new chilled out composition. Me and my synths, just chilling out on a Saturday night in the studio. I also wrote a new patch for the Roland Alpha Juno-1 and then processed it through a distortion/phaser.
The D-50 has an organ patch that I made out of just an initialized patch, through chorus at max values, and with a little delay added on.
The DX-9 patch is made with 4 operators, equal tuning. The patch can be played with full-on sustain,(sustain level in the ADSR), or with a nice release time.

Please enjoy! :)

"Synth connection" featuring Arturia MiniMoog.

YouTube via TheSynthFreq — "May 12, 2010 — Hi. This is a new retro synth-pop style composition written today after playing with the vst MiniMoog.
:) I used a MiniMoog Vst's arpeggio, which is a first for me, but the arpeggios inspired a new song. I used 8 notes which equals 4/4 time, to set the arp from DX-9's midi out into the computer. The real MiniMoog is Sweet too. I had the chance to play one and its a truly awesome synth. My sister joins me in this song, jammin out the string track on the Motif-6. In the end, I attempted to fade the arp out by lowering its volume on the amp. lol

Please Enjoy! :)

"1983" by TSF

YouTube via TheSynthFreq — April 21, 2010 — "Hi. This is an "Italio Disco" style 80s composition written 04-21-10. I LOVE Italio Disco by the way. :)
Pardon the delay in the beginning of the video, I had to go around the camera to start the Motif sequencer. This song also needs some refining but it was great fun to write. I intended to write an 80s dance style composition and came up with this. I will add more to it soon. Got LOVE THE 80s!!

Synths used: D-50: strings Alpha Juno- Synth lead (original/new) + delay/echo DX-9: FM bass (preset) EMX-1: 80's track (new/original) Motif-6: ARP source for DX-9 CZ-5000: midi controller for Alpha Juno
PLEASE ENJOY :)

D-50 Volume board replacement, result. PT.3

YouTube via TheSynthFreq | July 29, 2010
The volume is a bit low on this one. If you turn it up, don't forget to turn it back down. This one added to this post with parts 1 and 2 as well.
"Hi. :)
This is an informal short video on the results of the Roland D-50's new 100% working volume board. D-50 is one happy synth. :) I play a short song to test it and see if I can hear any crackling or distortion. After that, I choose another sound and give the volume slider a run through and make sure it functions correctly. Also, you might wonder what that strange looking device with the lights on it around my neck, its an Icom, a bluetooth device for my hearing aids so that I can hear D-50 in my hearing aids directly.

The volume switch, pitch bend, Chase, Port and Transpose switches also work as they should. Its like a new synth!

Lost In Time by TSF

YouTube via TheSynthFreq | August 13, 2010

"Hi :)
Here is my new song written today. This song is a "draft" that will be completed and re-uploaded once a few parts are finalized.
The Roland Alpha Juno-1 is controlled by Midi so that its bass patch is controlled by the EMX-1 and timing is precise.
To sequence the bass line, I played the Juno-1 (out to in of the EMX) and recorded it to the EMX. From there I turned the volume down on the [synth] part [1] so that the Juno is the only synth heard, not the EMX.
Another new sound that I wrote on the EMX [synth part 4], is "spaced" sound using the random LFO routed to the pitch of the oscillators in the EMX and the FX send is set to delay/echo.
D-50- a new patch I wrote for it, that is warmer and has more saturation of chorus and reverb through it. T5 of the TVA has been set to T5=65, for the ADSR.

Please enjoy! :)

D-50: Initializing patches, PG-1000 setup

YouTube via TheSynthFreq | January 28, 2011 | 3 likes, 0 dislikes
Note the braille.
"A new video explaining the 'init' process of D-50, how to work through a reset of a patch from the ' init' settings and a basic PG-1000 edit. Always check the Chorus settings and the balance of the two L and U first. Set the Chorus parameters to 00's since they are most of the times always going to be set to high values from the init process. This video is not the full length since my iPhone 3GS has a 9min limit and I guess the phone got bored of all my rambling on. lol

Give your Alpha Juno-1 an ARP!

YouTube via TheSynthFreq. music comes in at 3:11.
"Hi! This is a short video of me demonstrating the Roland Alpha Juno-1. Its being controlled with ARP MIDI data from the Yamaha Motif 6 synthesizer. A few days ago, I wanted an authentic ARP effect on my Alpha Juno-1, but since the Juno-1s only have chord memory instead of an arpeg function, I used to have to record note for note into my Yamaha QX-3 through step recording to get a simulated arp for the classic 80s sounding compositions. I found some arp settings on the Yamaha Motif 6 and MIDI'd those messages to Juno-1 using the Juno's own bass patches. So Juno-1/2 owners really can have the best of both worlds, there is chord memory when you need it, for techno or other things, or MIDI it up to a synth that does have an arp setting and MIDI and there you go, a Juno with a vintage synth arp function. Since the Motif 6 is a modern synth, it has a great variety of arp patterns to choose from too, you can choose some plain up & down sequence or some pretty complex ones. I'm sure this is not a new discovery or anything, but still it is so awesome to have the awesome patches of the Juno-1 arp'd! I also play a short little 80s song, that I made up just to show the arp effect and the Juno with some chords from the D-50 and a sparkly lead sound that I made on the JV-880 module. I tend to talk a lot too! Sorry! LOL

Please enjoy :)

"Chasing the storm" (synth-pop) by TSF & MsMotif6

YouTube via TheSynthFreq — June 02, 2010 — "Hi! Our new song "chasing the storm" is an up beat 80s synth-pop song. I am playing the background track on the Roland Alpha Juno-1 using an original programmed patch that I wrote for it. The Alpha Juno-1 is a very warm, 1 DCO synth that really shines in this song. I love my Juno-1! :) My sister is playing the lead sound on the Motif-6 and she is rockin it. :)
Please enjoy!!!
Please comment, we value and appreciate them all. :)

P.S.: if you want the patch parameters for the Juno-1 patch, let me know and I can post it on my Flickr account for you to view it.

"11th dimension" Korg EMX, D-50 & DX-9

YouTube via TheSynthFreq | September 30, 2010

"Korg EMX sequence, with DX-9 bass patched being controlled by EMX though Midi. The DX-9 bass patch was created for this track. The D-50 patch was played live and improvised over the drum machine sequences. I switched between 3 different patterns that I created, to form a 'song'.
All sounds on the D-50, DX-9 and the Korg EMX were created by me using FM and L.A.S synthesis.
Please enjoy :)"

New D-50 patches

YouTube via TheSynthFreq — April 19, 2010 — "Here is a improv video of some new patches I wrote for the Roland D-50 linear synthesizer. The bass patch used in the last song was a preset on the Yamaha DX-9 FM synthesizer. I have had this DX-9 for about 4 days and I am really enjoying getting into FM synthesis and understanding the Fourier series as well as using sine waves to create sounds. It is a big adjustment though , since the DX series synths do not have a filter since modulation between the oscillators create complex frequencies that are controlled with modulation instead of an actual dedicated cutoff frequency. I really like how sidebands in FM sound so cool. Sidebands are actually aliasing and are most of the time not wanted, but it just sounds so awesome for metallic sounds.
Please enjoy!

"True love" by Danielle (TSF)

YouTube via TheSynthFreq. previous post
"Hi! This is a new composition written 2.5.2010. The background track was written track by track on the Yamaha Motif 6 synthesizer. I recorded to 5 tracks in it's sequencer, recording in real time.
Track 1: Rhodes
Track 2: Bass
Track 3: Jazz drum kit
Track 4: Background strings
Track 5: Bongos (jazz kit)

The Organ patch was played on the Roland D-50. This is a "rock organ" type sound that I made only using 4 square waves and just the chorus filter unit in the D-50. No LFOs were used in the TVF or TVA. The organ "tremolo" sound is really the chorus unit at moderate speed at the max value of saturation.

The lead patch is my usual Roland Alpha Juno-1 E-guitar patch with a little EQ in the higher frequencies for clarity in the mix.

PLEASE ENJOY!

"Chance" by TSF

YouTube via TheSynthFreq — April 23, 2010 — "Hi. This a new song written 4-24-10. This is just an idea for the moment, this had been in my mind, bugging me all day. I wrote a new drum pattern for the EMX-1 and wrote the song around it. I attempted to play a realistic bass line, live which was fun. The rest of the song has the bass programmed from the EMX-1 into the DX-9. The patch used was #10. The Alpha Juno-1 patch is the same used in "1983" [posted here], I find it fits well in the song. Synths used: D-50, Alpha Juno-1, DX-9, CZ-5000, EMX-1.
Please enjoy! :)"

"Spirit of DX" by TSF and MsMotif6

YouTube via TheSynthFreq | August 11, 2010

"Hi.
This new song is about the "spirit" of DX-7 and its famous "tines" sound that made many 80s songs sound so awesome.
This is a tribute song to Yamaha DX-7 and all its FM glory! :)

Please enjoy!
