Yamaha RX-17 Circuit Bent Drum Machine

images via this auction

"The Yamaha RX-17 features standard drum sounds including bass drum, snare, toms, hi hats, cymbal, claps, as well as latin sounds like timbales, congas, and cuico, with 1000 user programmable patterns, 10 songs memory, and programmable volume control. Full MIDI implementation makes it very flexible when using it with sequencers and other MIDI boxes as both master, slave, and a sound module. The RX-17 has MIDI in and out, stereo 1/4" outputs, and 1/4" headphone output. This unit has been professionally modified with:

* 3 noise filters- these add variable amounts of distortion, noise, and feedback
* 2 glitch switches- these turn the normal sounds into clicks and odd noises
* 16 point RCA patchbay- combine any points with included rca cables for dozens of new sounds and effects
* 1/4" line input jack with volume control(red knob) - This also works through 2 of the noise filters
* custom hardwood side panels for "vintage" synth look
* clear Lexan control panel with red LED backlights

This RX-17 operates normally with the switches in the off position, and as an extreme noise machine with the switches activated in many combinations. The Circuit Bent RX-17 is a great machine for experimental and electronic musicians looking for a unique sound and sample source. The RX-17 is powered by a 9 volt DC adapter."

CHARLES COHEN AT THE BUCHLA MUSIC EASEL

CHARLES COHEN AT THE BUCHLA MUSIC EASEL from Alex on Vimeo.
"/ / / / / Viewing with headphones or a stereo source is highly recommended / / / / /

This colorful video features sound artist Charles Cohen improvising on a 1970's Buchla Music Easel. This extremely rare instrument is one of Don Buchla's 200 series. Buchla (a pioneer of audio synthesis) only manufactured 14 of these units. The entire film was edited from an hour-long set of free improvisation, with audio was taken directly from Charles' mixing board.

All of the photography and editing was produced by Alex Tyson, a sound and video artist from Pennsylvania. The film was shot in 16:9 720p High Definition format, using a 35mm LensBaby 3GPL.

This film is free to distribute, share, blog, vlog, etc. When re-posting, please copy and paste this text to inform anyone about the film.

At this time the film is only available online. While you can stream it in HD, it is best viewed on DVD.
Please contact the filmmaker for hard copies if interested.

Charles can be reached at ccohen (at) voicenet.com .

Alex can be reached at alextyson (at) gmail.com"

Roland SH3 Synthesizer

"The hands of Oliver Chesler, The Horrorist in his recording studio in Berlin, Germany using his Roland SH3 synthesizer.

The Roland SH3 was produced in 1974. It is more rare than the SH3A which was put into the market after Moog sued Roland for the original SH3's filter design. This is one reason the Roland SH3 sounds so incredible. Rumor has it that less than 100 of these were ever made.

You can hear pure Roland SH3 accompanied by an Electrocomp-101 in two songs from The Horrorist: Room of Posers and Sex Machine.

If you enjoyed this video you probably will enjoy this blog: www.wiretotheear.com"
