Eowave Persephone analog ribbon synthesizer

via this auction
"eowave Persephone (suitcase version). This instrument cost $1699 and is no longer in production. Great unit - I used it on its own and as a controller for my modular synthesizer.
The Persephone is a fingerboard analogue synthesizer with CV and MIDI in and out. At the first sight, the Persephone reminds of the first electronic fingerboard instruments developed in the 1920s. But beyond this vintage look, the Persephone allies sensors technology and digital controls to a pure analogue generation of sound. The Persephone musicality will be determined by the way it is played. The Persephone respects the traditional play of the first non-keyboard electronic instruments with the right hand controlling the pitch and the left hand controlling the velocity. The ribbon zone can allow all kinds of play. When scaled, the Persephone can be played like a regular keyboard. Though there are no fixed preset notes with the ribbon, keyboard players will easily find their way. Guitars and bass players will certainly play it like a chord instrument and get sounds that are closed to cello or violin, especially when using vibratos. Jazz players will enjoy slapping the Persephone’s ribbon to get wonderful sonorities. Movie music writers and fans of sci-fi effects will enjoy its bi-dimensional structure, which allows creating eerie sounds very easily. A new fingerboard synthesizer Just like any synthesizer, the Persephone offers a classical synthesis architecture with an oscillator section, a filter section, a modulation section and a LFO section. With its 100% analogue oscillator, the Persephone can generate notes with a range of 10 octaves. Its lower frequencies go from a deep and resonant cello tone to a nearly human voice. On the highest pitches, it can reach very high frequencies. The oscillator waveform can be set between triangle and sawtooth for a more or less brilliant sound. The filter is a 12dB low-pass filter. Its ribbon control surface is pressure and position sensitive. While it requires the most advanced sensor technology and allows all kind of glissando a Theremin or les Ondes Martenot would allow. A scaling potentiometer allows scaling the Persephone’s ribbon from 1, 2, 5 to 10 octaves. The expression key, controlled by an optic sensor, can transmit the slightest vibrations on the key with an accuracy the mechanical systems never had. All the controls are digital. The four play modes - A, B, C and D - offer different hierarchy of control between the pitch, the velocity, a filter modulation and a LFO. Connections are located on the rear side of the front panel and are protected from dust and other source of deterioration by the Persephone suitcase top when not used. The Persephone like a CV/MIDI controller The Persephone has a CV out and a MIDI in/out. With its CV out, it can control any other analogue synthesizers and modular systems. With its MIDI in/out, it can also be used as a MIDI controller, what turns it into a powerful new kind of instrument. Technical Specifications Suitcase version or desktop version available Scale : a scaling potentiometer allows to scale the Persephone’s ribbon from 1, 2, 5 to 10 octaves. DSI Dave Smith Instruments Tetra Introduction

YouTube via DaveSmithInstruments
"http://www.davesmithinstruments.com/p...
Tetra is our next-generation analog poly synth. Tetra takes the award-winning sound and features of Mopho, multiplies them by four, and packs them in a box less than half an inch larger!

Tetra has multiple personalities. It is a four-voice, analog poly synth, a sort of mini Prophet. It's a four-part, multitimbral synth with separate outputs, essentially four Mophos in one very compact box. And its a voice expander for other Tetras or the Prophet 08."

"yet another blofeld track, all sounds are from blofeld except the drums which are from a korg emx. sequenced using and MPC (no audio comes from the mpc) and delay courtesy of a kaoss pad 3. Another audio burp at 1:26 :( idk whats up with those Im abusing the hell out of C minor lol btw this was ..."

Astral Blofeld by gsixtyfour
"Single Blofeld track recorded in Logic thru a mackie mixer with bass mildly turned up a notch. I used an MPC to sequence the blofeld and did all the filter play live (and a lil synth improv, I apologize for not being the best keyboardist lol). A Kaoss pad kicks in at 6:30 with the Mod.3 effect..."

Blofeld Trancience by gsixtyfour
"All synth sounds (even that deep ass bass) come from blofeld (with mild touches of EQ and reverb) each track was recorded separately, so this is not a demonstration of multimode (sorry :P) Drums are from a korg EMX. this is not finished yet, so please give me advice or criticism, i love..."

" 3rd installment of the series of 10 parts.

Using a Gakken SX-150 with the Machinedrum, the MD is controlling the pitch of the Gakken which is fed back into the MD input for gating and filtering as well as a bit of reverb, delay and distortion.

No mods are required to the SX-150.

The mix levels of the Gakken are a bit inconsistant as I did not use any compression.

Check out my other videos for some similar stuff and a how-to.

Thanks

another MIDI MuRF demo: sequenced from FR Orb

follow-up to this post. via Amos on the AH list:

"So, still getting to know the new MIDI Murf... I thought it would be fun to see how it is to sequence the MuRF filters from the Future Retro ORB sequencer, using the Orb's remix feature to generate new filter patterns on the fly.

The answer is, it's really really fun! Have a listen. :-)

Lots of analog content here... the MuRF is getting a softsynth for input, but the bass is FR XS and drums are Jomox XBase09. The XS and the MIDI MuRF are getting the same sequence frome the Orb, so the envelopes are all firing in sync. The XBase is synced to the same clock. I am changing the Remix settings on the Orb and tweaking the envelope settings on the MIDI MuRF in realtime. Track (such as it is) is one pass recorded live.

And here is a bit of the MIDI MuRF sequence solo, no bass or drums:

Synopsis:
Formed in 1969, Electronic Music Studios (EMS) quickly became innovators for the recording, production and advancement of electronic music. The ideas and designs that bubbled forth out of the ingenuitive minds of Peter Zinovieff, Tristram Cary, David Cockerell and others, led to the creation of some of the most wildly original musical / sound design equipment ever conceived. The VCS3, Synthi A + AKS, Synthi 100, Synthi E, Synthi Logik and the Soundbeam are among these,
almost unworldly, devices.

It is often said EMS gear has attained cult status, reaching a fervor of near worship among its users. The Synthi Group is an example and collection of such users. United through the Synthi blog and forum (www.thesynthi.de) and located throughout the world, the group's members have come together for a planned series of compilation volume releases where the individuality and approach of each member towards their EMS instrument is showcased and broadcasted for all to experience. The listener will hear wildly different examples of styles and sounds that this original, and oft times, vintage equipment can create.

EMS were true pioneers from the very beginning, always looking beyond the culture and times they were surrounded and seemingly trapped in. Still around today, thanks to Robin Wood and Ludwig Rehberg, they are one of the few companies involved with electronic instrument production that have had a continued run since their inception. The Synthi Group have honed the original pioneering spirit and DIY ethic of EMS with their Volume series, a collection of sounds encompassing beautiful dreamscapes, synaesthetic visions, dark ambience, aural abstractions, sonic absurdities, pulsating analog, glitch, ring modulators, and envelope shapers generating trapezoidal geometry. Beginning with Volume 1, the Synthi Group compilations aim to ensure the story of EMS continues well into the future of electronic music production.

New Oakley Discontinuity

Waveshaper, Wavefolder, Clipper, Ring Modulator & Wavesplicer

"The Discontinuity is an updated version of an older Oakley module called the Wavefolder. Both devices are voltage controlled waveshaper modules designed primarily for use in modular analogue music synthesisers. The module comes in our standard 5U high 2U wide format which is directly compatible with Synthtech's MOTM series..."
