"A lame attempt at trying a patch challenge. The idea was to have the third row of a Q119 sequencer to set the probability of an event. This was partially successful but still isn't quite 100%.

Basically, the output of the first row is for pitch, 2nd row is for gate on/off and 3rd row is for probability.
The use of a Q118 Instrument Interface was key. The "threshold" allowed me to fine tune in when an even t would occur. I used a Q110 Noise source to a Q107 filter in low pass mode before sending it to an amplifier which was controlled with the 3rd row of the sequencer. The voltage of the 3rd row was sent through a Q125 Signal Processor and then a Q117 S&H to derive useful voltage for the amplifier. The amplified/filtered noise was sent to the Instrument Interface which produced a gate to send to the Q128 Switch. The Switch was controlled by the 2nd row and allowed the "probability randomized" gate to come through when a step was selected by the 2nd row of the sequencer.

Whew!

Don't ask why it works, but it does as you can see. The steps that are active (most of the time in the video) are 1, 3 5 & 6. Step 3 is 50% probability, and step 5 is 30%. Steps 1 & 6 are 100% (or close).

The whole thing is not quite perfect. I tried many combinations to get this one. I had plenty of ideas such as using the filter and S&H to limit the noise selection, and most of the real problems occurred because of trigger problems.

The astute will notice the second step will fire regardless of whether there is a "probability" of it or not. Of course this is controllable with the 2nd row voltages and can be prevented.

I think someone could use the Q118 Instrument Interface and the S&H modules to get a better go at this, but I ran out of time."

MTG Pro One Turbo CPU+MIDI+CV - LFO2 MIDI Filter Cutoff S&H

YouTube via thisfear | August 21, 2010

"LFO2 is being applied this time to the Filter Cutoff. Reonance is also controlled over MIDI here. Demo shows sample and hold stuff. Sorry for the audio/video -- it's just a flipshare cam with an internal mic.

Fast-forward to 2:00 for typical usage (the good stuff)."

Seline HD for the Ipad

YouTube via JCRUDESS | August 21, 2010

"My very creative friends at Amidio have created Seline HD, a new music app for the Apple Ipad. It's a very cool new way of playing melodies and leads! What is really cool is tthat there is an automatic chord (drone) generator that plays random chords in the key of the scale you are playing in! This is the same company that I worked with for my JR Hexatone app! Always fun stuff! Stay tuned for it's coming release! www.amido.com"

"This is the 2nd video giving an example of my latest module, the Manual Attenuator Portamento module, with a Quad XOR Gate. All together they're known as 'The Jazz Singer', for the modulation abilities that they have.

Most of the video is explaining things as it goes, so I'll leave it to that.

This is the 2nd video from my new and growing:

Deathlehem 101010 Noise Machine."

Five Years Since Bob Moog's Passing

[Update below] It's been five years since Bob Moog passed away. The following are some links worth checking out to reflect on the man that brought so much to us. Be sure to play your synths today. Thank you Bob for everything you gave us and the world. We miss you.

Visit the Bob Moog CaringBridge site to read comments recently left by his late wife, Ileana Grams-Moog (also at the Bob Moog Foundation link below). You can leave a comment at Caring Bridge here and the post linked below. Of course feel free to comment in this post below as well.

The following is from the Bob Moog Foundation who is helping spread the word on everything Moog to kids for new generations to come.

"August 21, 2010: Fifth Anniversary Tribute

Written and Visual Reflections from Musicians, Colleagues and Family on the Fifth Anniversary of Bob's Passing

Tomorrow, August 21st, will mark the fifth anniversary of Bob Moog's passing. Today we pause to Reflect, Share, Listen and Thank through four very special posts dedicated to the occasion.

Reflect: Ileana Grams-Moog, Bob's widow, has posted a reflection about Bob and the importance of giving in our every day lives.

See Ileana's post here and leave your own reflection below her post.

Share: Seva David Ball, Grammy nominated audio engineer and the preservationist working on transferring the reel-to-reel tapes from the Bob Moog Foundation Archive, shares his first encounter with the Moog synthesizer.

Read Seva's "What is That Thing and Where Can I Get One?" post here.
Listen: We searched the archives for some rarely seen photos to share today and we found a wonderful series of three snapshots of Bob that speak to the core of his work ethic: Reflect. Share. Listen.

View these rare photos of Bob here.

Thank: We also found a wonderful image of Christoper Franke (Tangerine Dream), which was sent to Bob almost 40 years ago. On the photo, Christopher wrote a short message to Bob, which summarizes our sentiment today.

Check out the very cool photo of Christopher here.

Many thanks to all of you who have sent in kind words regarding the anniversary date, and to all of you who have lent your support to the Bob Moog Foundation over the past four years. We are grateful for your dedication and we are honored to be working with you to carry Bob's legacy forward.
