Tiptop Audio Desktop

via @tiptopaudio on Twitter.

Also on TRASH_AUDIO along with the Harvesman/Alesandro Cortini SuONOIO. On the Tiptop Audio desktop:

"Looks like Tip Top Audio is making a table top case that will be rack mountable. 4HP power supply is on the right side. This looks amazing and I would definitely use two for live performances."

Note one recently came up for auction captured here. It's actually test equipment and not a synth in the classic sense. Details from the flickr set:

"photos of a (somewhat rare?) early synthesizer. thought this was an interesting unit, so i figured id take some pics and share. dave from the audities foundation has pegged this as a telephone testing device. there is no date of manufacture, and i couldnt find any documentation on this-my guess is 1969-75, based on the construct and fonts, but who knows? SN 772.

it can both generate tones, as well as process or modulate any incoming signal(great fun on drums). the harmonic distortion unit on the top half is a partly-separate unit; the 2nd and 3rd harmonic distortion can only be accessed through the upper level of pin inputs."

"This is the new Liquid HiHat for my Deathlehem 101010 Noise Machine! :) Completed so far are:
3 x Voltage Controlled Oscillators
3 x Manually Controlled Oscillators
4 of 8 Exclusive OR Gates

Yet to be done are:
4 more XOR Gates
2 x 3 input mixers

But she's up and running and powerful! More explanation is in the video, showing a short example of it with an Attack / Release envelope generator controlling a VCA that the LHH is running through.

More to come ..."

Marsynth Morris Box Testing

YouTube via marsynth | September 14, 2010

"Just another quick video shot from my phone. This time I'm testing out a new unit: the Marsynth Morris Box. This synth is made of two oscillators, a filter, and an lfo with pwm, all housed in a cigar box. The synth is being run through a healthy dose of reverb, and then picked up by the shitty microphone in my phone (good enough for youtube I guess...).

Currently, all Marsynth products are still being sold locally here in Lawrence KS ( http://www.richardsmusicstore.com/ ), although I hope to be setting up a website soon . I try to keep up with posting pictures of every unit made here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/marsynth although I've been slacking recently.

Thanks for watching!"

Day 191 / Music Box Melody-Maker from Charlie Visnic on Vimeo.

"Feeling a little low energy and under the weather this evening. I decided to relax by composing something for my music box.

The melody was composed using a monome app as my aid. The app is called Tintinnabulome and it is perfect for composing for the music box.

Please enjoy!

This was my creative thing for my creative thing-a-day blog at: theb-roll.com"

Nord Modular G2 Expanded

via this auction

"This is perhaps the most flexible piece of hardware ever made for any studio. It can do everything. It can do the following:

* Synthesizer (strings, organs, weird sounds, basses, granular, anything your mind can imagine, Moogs, Arps)
* Effects (choruses, reverbs, delays, and almost every other kind of effect, as well as many waiting for you to invent)
* Midi (sequencing, delays, data manipulation, recording, totally transforming incoming data, program switching, control surface, arpeggiators, and any combination or mutation of the above)

You don't have to be a synthesis expert to start using it. There are a lot of excellent presets built in, and tens of thousands more to download here or here.

But if you want to get into synthesis, there is no other piece of hardware that offers you more options or depth. The only main competitor might be Kyma, but it is in a much higher price bracket, and is far less intuitive to program.

While you might try using a computer for advanced synthesis techniques, you will find that the seamless integration between software and hardware that the G2 represents is unparalleled. Patching is as fast as thought, and mapping controls to the hardware is lightning-quick.

This is, next to a studio with wall-to-wall modular gear, the most powerful hardware synthesizer available anywhere. And no patch on any hardware synth will compare to a maxed-out Nord Modular G2, with all four program slots full and interconnected, working as a single, incredibly powerful patch.

With the four inputs, and the XLR input with preamp, there is no end to what you can do with audio processing. You can simultaneously transform the sound of a voice and three instruments, all with completely different effects algorithms, and also have a drum machine, bass, and pads — and you might not even be close to making out the power of this synth!

The installed Expansion doubles the DSP power."

Sherman Filterbank 2x2 RACK Analog Filter

via this auction

"The Sherman Filterbank 2 represents the next evolutionary step of the hugely successful Sherman Filterbank! What we originally had was a basic synth without the oscillators, allowing you to process your flat and lifeless sounds into dangerous roaring crunchy performances. The "2" is essentially the same but with an improved spec, and the kind of modular flexibility that will keep you tweaking for months."
