Dewanatron Featured in New York Times

The New York Times has an article on Dewanatron and the Swarmatron. Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross' use of the Swarmatron get a mention for their use of the Dewanatron in "The Social Network".

"It was something of a personal victory, too. 'It felt like the Swarmatron was the foundation on which they built a whole bunch of other musical stuff,' Mr. Dewan said, referring to Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, who together created the score."

"Brief demo of the progress thus far on my new app, Cascadr.

Top set of columns can be slid up and down to control the pitch of each of the 8 notes in the sequence.

Bottom set of columns control the volume of each note.

The animation signifies the speed of each sequence - note that they don't sync with the particular note that's playing - it's all just for show at the moment!"

Dupré: Prelude in G minor, Op. 7 No. 3

YouTube Uploaded by ScrollingMusic on Jun 17, 2011

"Marcel Dupré (1886-1971): Prelude in G minor (no. 3) from "Trois préludes et fugues op. 7" (1914)

This piece was written by French organist and composer Marcel Dupré in 1914. It is one of his earliest works for solo organ. Dupré is widely regarded as an organ virtuoso, "a Paganini of the organ," and his works are among the most famous of 20th century organ repertoire. This particular work was pronounced "unplayable" at the time of its composition, and Dupré himself was the only organist capable of performing the work for several years after.

This rendition of the piece was generated by the pipe organ voice of our Matlab synthesizer. To design the pipe organ timbre, we spectrally analyzed a recording of a real organ, and reproduced the sound using additive synthesis. Multiple layers of digital reverb and asymmetrical equalization between the left and right channels transform the raw mono output into an open, spacious sound. Both the audio and the scrolling visualization were created from a MIDI file."

Entropical paradise (with bird call)

Listen to this one in stereo with headphones for the full effect.

"Douglas Leedy's classic composition "Entropical Paradise (with bird call)", performed live at the annual German modular synth convention „Happy Knobbing" on a 200e.

This piece has first been released in 1968 on the triple album by the same name. Leedy composed it for a Buchla 100 system that belonged to the electronic music studio of UCLA. Originally this piece was 20 minutes (which reflects the length of one side of an LP)."

EntropParadise Clip by bartonmusic

"I noticed a post about Douglas Leedy's Entropical Paradise. I've put up this little clip of the original -- it is such a "classic". I learned synthesis from my friend Douglas Leedy in Portland, Oregon in the 19070's on his Buchla Music Easel [Tardis?]. Back in the day he gave me his triple album set, Entropical Paradise as a model and inspiration. I'm uploading this very short clip to show the organic nature of his patches that almost seem to breathe and also have great musical inflection and sense of space. Doug, if you want me to take this down just say the word!"
