"THIS VX600 IS A VERSION 1.2 ,AND IS THE LAST VERSION PRODUCED. YOU CAN CONTROL THE VX600 FROM A DAW USING MIDI. USING THE MODULATION MATRIX,YOU CAN ASSIGN CONTROL PARAMETERS SUCH AS FILTER CUTOFF TO CHANGE IN REALTIME. PROGRAMMING IS A BIT OF A LEARNING CURVE DUE TO THE MENU TYPE EDITING. PRETTY COMMON IN THE 80,S BUT ONCE YOU LEARN THE BASICS, YOU ARE PROGRAMMING YOU OWN SOUNDS IN NO TIME. THE VX600 WAS PRODUCED BEFORE SYX DATA TRANSFER BECAME COMMONPLACE.THE VX600 DOES NOT HAVE SYX MIDI DATA STORAGE. PATCHES CAN BE STORED INTERNALLY OR ON MEMORY CARD (INCLUDED BABY!).
THE VX600 HAS BEEN COMPARED TO THE OBERHEIM XPANDER FOR A LONG TIME,THIS IS MOSTLY BECAUSE BOTH SYNTHS SHARE THE SAME VCO CHIP (CEM3374). THIS SYNTH HAS A MUCH FASTER ATTACK TIME THAN THE OBERHEIM BY FAR! WHICH MAKES THIS SYNTH GREAT FOR BASS AND PERCUSSIVE SOUNDS. THE VX600 HAS A GREAT LOW-PASS FILTER W/RESONANCE AND IS VERY LIQUIDY SOUNDING.THE FILTER REMINDS ME A BIT OF A KORG MONO/POLY FILTER. IT ALSO HAS A HIGH PASS-FILTER TO REMOVE SOME LOWER-END OUT OF A BASSY PATCH.
THE VX600 HAS A VERY GOOD MATRIX MODULATION FOR DESIGNING YOUR OWN SOUNDS AND IS WHAT MAKES THIS SYNTH QUITE UNIQUE!"

"This one is also a very late one or one of the last made by Roland, later than any other JP-8 i have seen,so it was probably made towards the end of its run in 1984. The later one got all the upgraded so made it the most reliable and most desirable one for working musician or collector,here's the info from net:
"Throughout the production of the JP-8 there were several changes. Starting at serial #171700 the D/A converter on the Interface board was changed from 12-bit to 14-bit. This change was made mainly to improve tuning stability. The problem with the 12-bit digital-to-analog converter on the original JP-8 is that it could cause the autotune to be inaccurate in some instances. Some say to avoid these early JP-8's while others say they haven't experienced tuning problems. Starting at serial #242750 the LEDs of the display were changed to brighter ones. Starting at serial #282880 the JP-8 came standard with a DCB port. These newer JP-8's may be referred to as JP-8A's. DCB, or Digital Control Bus, was Roland's pre-MIDI interface that allowed the JP-8 to talk to other DCB enabled hardware, such as the Roland MC4 and MC8 microcomposers. Previous JP-8's had the option of having the OC-8 retrofit installed to give it DCB capability."
