wowcow's first 40 mins with the Jupiter 80

YouTube Uploaded by wowcow on Sep 25, 2011

"Disclaimer - I know I can't play.. :) I'm more of a DAW/Sequencer type.

Whilst impatiently waiting for a Korg Kronos I went nuts a bought a JP-80, I figured the pair would make the ultimate combo (still waiting for the Kronos) .

This is my first 40 mins just plodding through the first few registrations and randomly mashing keys (sometimes in some sort of order) . I have no idea what each one is going to sound like in case you're wondering why I pause or get it completely wrong.

Not sure how well the sound will translate on YouTube but I can say it sounds an absolute beast in the flesh. Once I get more acquainted with it I will post some proper videos and definitely once I have the Kronos hooked up to it."

Sequential Circuits six-trak : "Manifiesto atemporal" (making of)

Todos los sonidos provienen de un Sequential Circuits six-trak. Se usa un Korg Karma como controlador midi y secuenciador.

DSI Tempest - Impressions by Chris Randall

flickr By Chris Randall

Chris Randall of Analog Industries and Audio Damage put up some impressions of the new DSI Tempest. He sounds pretty impressed.

"To describe this thing as bad ass is to understate the matter entirely."

If you followed the DSI line of synths you know the Evolver has four oscillators, two analog and two digital with the Prophet VS waveforms. The Prophet '08 and Tetra forgo the digital oscillators. The Tempest has the four with additional digital waveforms added. "The digital oscillators comprise several methods of making noise (they did a very good job in the noise selection department), a couple hundred different drum samples running the gamut of styles, and the complete Prophet VS waveform library. They are quite capable, and while being necessarily drum-centric, Tempest can also do a pretty favorable turn as a synth."

The one thing to note is the Tempest is six voice polyphonic, while the Polyevolver is four. Be sure to see the rest of Chris' impressions. He also comments on how the envelops differ, MPC-60 style swing on the unit and it's overall tightness.

For A New Friend

YouTube Uploaded by davidryle on Sep 25, 2011

"A generative piece. Totally self contained in the modular synth. I start it with a push button on the Q119 sequential controller. The Q119 is the volume envelope for the entire piece. The Q960 sequencer controls a few envelopes for the drone and various steps output gates to start events coming from the other sound sources. A triple set of CGS Harmonic Sequencers and a noise source are the different voices. Gated switch modules are opened with two Q962 Sequential Switches as limits on the step gates from the Q960.

This patch was inspired by a few discussions of generative patches from the MuffWiggler's forum. My goal was to invent a patch that was entirely hands-off and contained many elements which happened automatically over a longer period.

A long time friend and new acquaintance dropped by for a visit so I included his welcomed appearance with this title. Thanks Brian!"
