LZX Featured in Neon Indian's "Mind, Drips" Video

Neon Indian "Mind, Drips" Official Video

YouTube Uploaded by neonindianband on Dec 6, 2010

I thought this was pretty cool. The following is the actual video description from the the band on YouTube. It's great to see successful bands directly support the makers like this. Neon Indian also worked with Bleep Labs on the PAL198X (links below).

"Lars Larsen is an electronics designer and multimedia artist in Austin, Texas. Larsen's work focuses on synergistic relationships between technology and subject, and the resurrection of forgotten pre-Computer Age technologies. Over the past few years, he and partner Edward Leckie of Sydney, Australia have been developing an analogue video synthesizer called the LZX Visionary in the tradition of esoteric video art tools used in the 1970's. The LZX Visionary manipulates and creates images in the same way a normal synthesizer does for sounds. Mind Drips is the first music video to utilize this unique synthesizer, and all of its visual effects are recorded in real-time using techniques such as abstract pattern synthesis, video feedback, and analog compositing. For more information on the LZX Visionary video synthesizer, visit http://www.lzxindustries.net or e-mail lars@lzxindustries.net

via the listing: "This unit has been effectively inactive since 1984, when I quit playing. It was stored in my parent's basement for many years, then moved to my home for the last 15. In the interest of full disclosure, here's the bad news: it got wet for a couple of days in a basement flood in 2000; about 6 inches of water. It was dried out, but returned to its place on a basement shelf. About half of the slider tips remain. There is some rust, as seen in photos 2 & 3, but everything moves; no rust lock up on the lid or any sliders. The unit powers on (photo 4), and Osc's 1 & 2 and the noise generator make sound. I used the VCA gain to get the sounds. I could not get the ADSR to work; don't know if there's a problem or if I just don't remember how to operate it! It will require work to get it into the performance shape it enjoyed in the early 80's. The key shaft that attaches the key to the contact wire support on high C is broken (photo 9); glue or replacement is necessary. Some of the contact wires were re-soldered back in the 80's by me while on the road through the Midwest (photos 10 & 11). The back panel that covered the contacts is gone; as I recall, I discarded it so I could quickly access a potentially stuck contact wire during performance..."

"A very simple, but haunting, electronic duet - with a Multivox MX-20 piano and a Micromoog "Theremin-like" synth. No reverbs or other studio treatments - just the pure tones."
