"The Q158 VCA++ module combines two VCAs along with innovative connectivity to provide a panner, fader, 3-channel mixer and ring modulator functions - all in a single-wide module.

You can never have enough VCAs in a modular system and the Q158 addresses this by providing two full-featured VCAs complete with invertable attenuators and bipolar gain controls.

The signal input and CV input for VCA #1 are normalized to VCA #2, in other words, they are automatically connected to VCA #2 unless plugs are inserted into VCA #2 jacks. This makes patching easy to create a 2-channel panner (one input panning between two outputs) and a fader (two inputs fading to one output).

Automatic connection between the two VCA channels also provides an easy way to do ring modulation (4-quadrant multiplier). Multiplying 2 audio signals produces frequencies that are the sum and differences of the originals resulting in inharmonic bell-like tones, a classic synthesizer function.

VCA channels #1 and #2 are mixed together along with a third un-attenuated channel in the center section. This gives you a 3-channel mixer with 2 of the channels having attenuators. The INVERT switch inverts the polarity of VCA #2's contribution to the mixer and is used to produce ring modulation.

Both VCAs have manual gain controls and VCA #2's invert switch provides simple signal processing functions."

Percussion oscillator1: 2 percussion waves, that can be detuned and modulated by FM noise and any other LD3/Tiny LD modulation source. Modulation of an Atk (Attack) parameter with an envelope, simulates the strike of the drum. Optimized for kicks, snares and noise sounds.

Percussion oscillator2: Same as 1, but modulated by squared FM noise. Optimized for analog style hi hats and cymbals.

Percussion oscillator3: 2 percussion waves, that ring modulates each other, and that can be detuned and modulated by FM noise and any other LD3/Tiny LD modulation source. Modulation of an Atk (Attack) parameter with an envelope, simulates the strike of the drum. Optimized for hi hats, toms and bell type sounds.

Cymbal oscillator: A small group of square wave oscillators modulates each other (in FM range) to create complex sounds like cymbals and metallic noises.

The Percussion Synthesizer add-on are included in trial mode in the latest update (fully functional, but save disabled), and can be un-locked for EUR 149,-"

Apart from the internal effect engine, I've used Valhalla DSP effects once in a while to create this demo (Shimmer, Delay and Vintage Verb).

Assignment of the potentiometers (fix for almost every patch)
Knob 1 = Cutoff EG intensity
Knob 2 = Cutoff
Knob 3 = An intelligent transition of Resonance / Noise / Overdrive (depending on the patch, sometimes without Noise or Overdrive)
Knob 4 = first 50 % is for Attack Time / second half of the knob sets Release time, so you can smoothly morph a lead sound into a pad.

The remaining four knobs are used for parameters most relevant for the selected patch
Knob 5 = Vibrato, EFX Dry / wet (depending on the patch also chorus when turning the knob further to the right)
Knob 6 = Performance Knob (could be LFO speed, LFO intensity, OSC Tune etc.)
Knob 7 = Volume & Amount of Noise
Knob 8 = Oscillator Morph functions. Those can be Wavetable Positions, Oscillator A/B Ratio etc."
