Modular Jam #17 - Beats & Pieces

Published on Oct 23, 2014 DivKidMusic

"So here's my latest patch that I've been jamming with and trying things out. As always fire away with any questions in the comments and hit subscribe for more videos every week! Full patch notes below.

Part 1
An intellijel Dixie triangle wave is sent to the AniModule V9a and scaled with the on board offset and attenuator to create some pendulum style sequencing with the VC input for the V9a (as opposed to clock input). The CV output from the 9 steps are sent to an RYO AmpMix for simple attenuation and then scaled back before going to an ADDAC 207 Quantizer. The quantizer output goes into a Mutable Instruments Braids 1v/octave input with automatic triggering for the DRUM mode. The quantizer's trigger output go into a Mutable Instruments Branches to inject some random movement not always passing the triggers through the same output and output A goes into a Mutable Instruments Peaks is envelope mode sends an ADSR to Braids colour modulation input. Braids Timbre is modulated by a Frequency Central System X Sample & Hold which is clocked from an AniModule TikTok receiving it's clock from the VC sequence generated on the V9a. Braids output goes into a Mutable Instruments Ripples filter with cut off modulation from the System X Sample & Hold and the second channel of Peaks in TapLFO mode. The TapLFO function receives it's clocked from the TikTok module. The Ripples 2 pole low pass output goes into a Make Noise Echophon with the mix amount modulated by a Bubblesound uLFO's shaped sine output. The Echophon's pitch depth is modulated from a second quantizer channel playing the same sequence as the original pitch sequence going to Braids. The Echophon's echo time is modulated from the System X Sample & Hold as well. The main clock for the Echophon is the AniModule TikTok. The Echophon's freeze function is from the uLFOs pulse output. Finally the Echophon's output goes into an Erica Synths Polivoks mixer module.

Part 2
A second Intellijel Dixie's sine output goes into a Bubblesound VCA4p with FM modulation on the Dixie from a Doepfer Quad ADSR with the same envelope modulating the amplitude on the VCA4p. The VCA4p output goes into a Doepfer A-199 spring reverb with the output going into a Synthrotek EKO module which has echo time modulation from the uLFOs shaped sine output (also modulating the Echophon for Part 1). The EKO output then goes into the Polivoks mixer.

Part 3
The AniModule TikTok sends a clock into the 4ms RCD and SCM and 4 outputs are mixed in a Doepfer A-151 sequential switch with a slower clock division triggering the switching. This pattern is sent to a the second channel on Branches which is randomly "coin tossing" the outputs so every trigger doesn't pass and that output goes to a WMD multi mode envelope which is modulating an Erica Synths Polivoks filter with the Polivoks modulator's noise output at the input. This then goes into the third channel on the Polivoks mixer.

The Polivoks mixer is a sub mix that is added to with the output going through a Livewire Frequensteiner filter with modulation in HP mode from the System X Sample & Hold. The Frequensteiner output then goes to an RYO Vertmix (for further mixing). The Vertmix also has a second channel which is Neutron Sound Orgone Accumulator set to a noisy wave going into the AniModule SOB with steady 16th note trigger (the slight variation in the V9as output due to the original triangle wave at the VC input is most apparent here) to the CV inputs. The Vertmix finally outputs to a second A-199 spring reverb before going to my soundcard.

Manually wiggling was of the SOB filter cut off and CV modulation depth for the noise. The Braids tuning for Part 1 DRUM mode, the Polivoks mixer levels and the FX mix amounts.

I also used the AniModule LogicOgic for AND, FlipFlop and OR functions to mix and combine triggers from the 3 parts and TikTok clock divider/multiplier before hitting Branches."

AniModule V9A Eurorack Synthesizer Module

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"VC Sequencer / Waveshaper / Complex Envelope

Here's a powerful animal to add to your sequencing arsenal.

Send your CV to the CV In. As the Voltage increases the sequence steps forward. As the voltage decreases the sequence steps back.

Scale and adjust your input voltage to taste with the Onboard Attenuator and Offset.

Control the Output CV with an individual Potentiometer for each step.

When a step changes, a 10MS trigger is sent to it's corresponding switch. If the latching switch is depressed it allows the trigger to pass to the Trigger Out.

There is a switch per step for slew (portamento/slide) and a Potentiometer to control the Slew Amount.

There is also an input to allow gated control of when the slew turns on and off which will work in conjunction with the switches.

This module is looking for 0V to +5V (although all inputs are diode clamped to protect from standard synth range voltages). The Offset is 0V to +5V.

To allow for chaining of the V9a and rests, 0V will put you under the sequencer range and +5V will put you over the sequencer range. When the sequence drops below step 1 or over step 9, 0V will be sent to the CV Out and No Trigger will be sent to the Trig Out. When step 1 or 9 is activated a trigger will be sent to the Trig buss."

Animodule M1xXOR Details

We saw the videos and teaser pic. We now have full details in via Animodule:

"Born in the Bowels of the Darkest Depths of the Darkest Realms of Darkest Darkness;
The M1xXOR is the Bastard Progeny of an Unholy Union between the V9a, VCSS, XXX_OR, and MixMan.
This Bestial Abomination will Command your Devotion and Fulfill your Deepest, Darkest Desires for Rhythmic and Harmonic Domination and Devastation!

How It Works:
-Signal goes in to Channel Input (it's DC connected so you can use Audio OR CV).
-Signal is attenuated via Channel Attenuator.
-Signal is allowed to pass through to Individual Channel Output AND Mixer Output IF Gate Input is High OR Switch is depressed.

Sequencer:
-Clock Pulse High in to Clock Input Moves Sequence forward 1 Step.
-The Channel that the step is On will be open*
-CV can be used to control the Sequencer via the CV Input.
-There is a resolution of 5 steps (4 channels and a 0 step allowing for all channels to be cleared from the Sequencer).
-There is an attenuator and offset to help properly scale and position your CV Input.
-CV Input is expecting 0V to +5V, but with the Attenuator and Offset will easily work with -/+5V.
-Clock and CV maybe used in tandem resulting in some mind melting rhythms!
-In that case the Clock will step forward 1 step from it's current position (unless it's on step 4 in which case it will roll over to step 1)
-The Clock used in conjunction with the CV will bitshift the sequence to the left, incrementing the static position of the step counter by 1 (wrapping around to step 1 after step 4).
-Fer' Instance, 2 Clock counts and CV is on 0. Step will be on Channel 2
-Gate High in to Reset will reset Clock counter to step 1 OR if Clock Input is being used in conjunction with the CV Input the reset will clear the Clock Counter and return the step to where the CV indicates it should be without any BitShifting

*Gate Input / Switches in conjunction with Sequencer:
-The Sequencer and the Gate Input / Switches combine in a XOR gate. If one is High and the other is not, that channel will be open. If BOTH are High, that channel will be closed.

Despite the lengthy description, the M1xXOR is very intuitive (and unbelievably Fun!) to use.
Each Channel (and the Mixer) May be used independently of the Sequencer.
So if you're not in the mood for Rhythmic Insanity You still have a gateable 4 Channel DC-Coupled Mixer AND/OR 4 independent and gateable channels of Attenuation.
You will NEVER just have it filling space in your cabinet.
You will find a use for it in EVERY patch!

All this in 8HP with a depth of 33mm (from rear of Front Panel).

The M1xXOR is the Dark Lord of Rhythmic Obliteration Temporally Transmogrified to this Earthly Plane!
Better Get One (at least!) today before your music is DOOMED to Blandness and Pusillanimity!"

AniModule with MPC1000 Incorporating some triggers and samples for timing and audio SOB TikTok

Published on Oct 4, 2014

"Using the MPC1000 to: trigger the envelope to drive the V9a Sequencer(every measure) and get some sick PWM on the Lil' Monster, trigger the TikTok Clock Divider / Multiplier(every 1/8 note) and play some drum samples in to the XXX_OR (via the Line In / Line Out on the TrAniModule)for some mangulation.
Just used the first Cycle and a half of a Kick drum sample as the trigger.
It was easy to set up and I didn't need any buffering to get the triggers to work. I ran them out the Sub Outputs so so they didn't interfere with the audio coming out of the Main Stereo Out.

Real pleased with the results :)"

Phase Locked Loop sequence with Microbrute

Published on Aug 30, 2015 SGE

"Phase Locked Loop (PLL) patch with Microbrute running a sequence into the eurorack modular. Modules used for the PLL are AniModule XXX_OR (as phase comparator), SOB (Low pass filter), LMVCO (2nd VCO), and LogicOgic (clock divider).

Other modules used to shape the timbre are Make Noise FXDF, AniModule Scanner, DDVCA, V9a, Line Amp, and Mengqi DPLPG. Effect is a Roland RE20 delay/reverb.

The end result is a sort of plucked, "koto" type of sound that varies a lot by the notes/octaves played by the Microbrute."
