Roland Enters the Modular Market with Plug-Out Filter D-Beam & Scatter Eurorack Module

"Introducing the Roland Plug-Out Digital Filter for Euro Rack Synthesizers! Now you can have that virtual sound you've been missing! Roland has emulated every analog component in vintage analog circuits and packed into a euro format module. We didn't stop there, boys and girls, we added the famous scatter effect, so everyone can enjoy scatting!

• Roland’s ACB technology models each component and every aspect of vintage filters

• Faithful recreation of all filters Roland has crafted through the years, the original TB-303, SH-101, System 700 and Jupiter 80 filters.

• Authentic filter behavior with smooth response and classic sound

We’ve meticulously analyzed the circuitry of the original TB-303 piece by piece, right down to the individual circuit behavior. Using Analog Circuit Behavior (ACB) technology, we’ve fully reproduced the TB-303’s -18dB per octave ladder low-pass filter used in the original, capturing that unmistakable cutoff and resonance character.

In addition to the faithful reproduction of classic TB tones, the Plug-Out Digital Filter is packed with new sounds that live and breathe. Bubbling synth filtering, hard distortion filtering, trippy delay sounds, and drippy effects—they’re all here, and then some. We've recreated every filter Roland has in it's rich history, even the Moog one!

The Scatter function features slicing, reverse, gating, and other effects, allowing you to instantly create variations, stutters, and glitches that would normally require painstaking editing in a DAW. You can keep things fresh and interesting with 8 different Scatter variations and 10 levels of Scatter depth.

God I hate April fools jokes, I'm so addicted to the internet for real news, and on April 1st I just can't beat them, so I'll join in on the fun.

Miniwave Highpass modulation

Published on Aug 10, 2013 Christopher Winkels·63 videos

"An implementation of the Bob Borries modulation trick to mimic PWM on a Miniwave.

Simply put, an LFO (or EG, or other modulation source) sweeps the cutoff on a ramp (rising sawtooth) wave being fed into a highpass filter. The output of the highpass HPF drives the Miniwave input.

Changing the waveshape of the ramp changes the spectral content of the Miniwave, lending a PWM style tonal sweep.

Not everything sounds great, but they beauty of it is that one can go from subtle sweeps to nails-on-a-chalkboard grind with relatively little effort."

Anyone know what this is? That's a Yamaha KX25 MIDI controller so I'm guessing it's software.

Update via Bob Borries in the comments: "It looks to me like the cube plugged into the midi port is a tiny analog hardware synth. It's powered by the voltage in the midi cable and has one audio output. Amazingly small, yet has a big sound. I wonder how you edit the sounds for the 64 user presets?"

IDOW & MATRIXSYNTH Modular Pic of the Week - Week 21 Contest Winner!

"Our twenty-first winner of the Modular Pic of the Week contest goes to Bob Borries for his 'Lightning Volts."

Being a fan of Wendy Carlos, Larry Fast, NIN and BT, Bob had to own a Moog modular, but since Moog don't build modules anymore, he bought a Synthesizers.com system. Vo1t is the moniker for my music. The photo is multiple exposures of lasers and smoke.

For more info on Vo1t: http://www.vo1t.com

We'd like to give a big thanks and congratulations to Bob Borries for his submission! This is the 21st week of a 30-week contest, and we are looking forward to many more modular photo submissions, so please keep 'em coming! For details on how to submit and what you can win, see this post.

For more info on the upcoming 'I Dream of Wires' documentary, be sure to see the trailer and IndieGoGo fund raising campaign here.

See the IDOW label for all posts pertaining to the film including the weekly contest winners."

How the Animoog X/Y Pad Works

If you are curious how the X/Y Pad on Animoog works, Bob Borries has a great page that illustrates what it does. See the site for the animated gifs and a little more info.

via Bob Borries in the comments of the original Animoog post.

"The X/Y Pad has 8 horizontal timbres zones that crossfade in the up/down direction. You can assign a different timbre for each zone, Each timbre has an oscillator going through audio processing with parameters you can change in the left/right direction."
