Transcendent Synth from Martin Hannett 's ( Joy Division producer ) collection with Synthometer?

via this auction

I never heard of a Synthometer before now. If you know more about it, feel free to comment.

via the listing:

"ignore all those cheaper Transcendents ( that probably aren't fully working like this one and don't have famous user owner history like this one ) and buy one from Martin Hannett's personal collection of Transcendent's this one includes Hannetts unique Synthometer a unit that apparently connected this Transcendent to an AMS delay- the fully working Transcendent synth includes the correct vintage case for this synth of Hannett's and the case fits the Hannett Synthometer at the side of the Transcendent - Hannett Transcendent synth no 9 and case No 9- Transcendent is fantastic condition and the analogue sounds are out of this world. Hannett put Transcendent synths into loads of records he produced including Joy Division- there are Transcendent sounds on Unknown Pleasures and other Joy Division recordings from that era . Hannett produced and sometimes played synth effects on Joy Division early New Order, Durutti Column, John Cooper Clarke, Nico, Buzzcocks, Magazine, Pauline Murray, U2, Stone Roses, Happy Mondays, he was really responsible for bringing synths and echoes into punk and post punk

Ready to plug in and create those Joy Division/ Manchester /Hannett sounds- this synth was designed by Tim Orr who also worked for EMS.

This has not just been stuck in an attic for years and full of dodgy controls or part working- this is fully serviced and refurbished and ready to go

will come with letter of provenance and Hannett's notes"

Joy Division Producer Martin Hannett's Transcendent 2000 Synth Up for Sale?

via this auction

"Working Transcendent analog synth 1978/79(with documentation) used and owned by Martin Hannett ( he owned two of these) Transcendents were actually used on Joy Division, Durutti Column and lots of Factory and Manchester band recordings and Hannett often had one in the control room as well as the band having one in the studio area. This includes his instruction manual and handwritten mods he did to the synth. We know the Transcendent was used as a straight synth sound and also used to feed triggers from sound sources into it on many Hannett recordings. There are several photos of Hannett using Transcendents around 78/79. Also included is one of four of Hannett's Revox mastering machines that he would take one to studios to make copies of his mixes each day and he had them at home too to listen to his studio work on his home hi fi system. This Hannett RevoxB77 powers up but needs attention. these are important Hannett and Joy Division related artefacts and will climb in value as fascination with Martin Hannett continues to grow"

Martin Hannett's Arp Omni 2 Synth No 4

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

A previous one was posted here.

"Forget all those other Omni 2s- that are cheaper- here is one of the ultimate ones - a great buy that is both working and is climbing in value owing to the Omni 2 collection it came from- here we have one of Martin Hannett's 1970s Arp Omni 2's from his actual cache /collection of synths, Hannett's Omni 2s along with his Transcendent's were the main models of synths he took from his collection to take in the studio with bands like Joy Division,( Omni 2s were used on Unknown Pleasures) Magazine, Stone Roses, Happy Mondays, Nico, John Coooper Clarke, Pauline Murray and loads of other bands he produced and often overlayed synth tracks on.

This is one of the rarer of his Omni 2 collection as Hannett fitted it with wooden end cheeks. It has been fully serviced and is fully working and comes with a brand new heavy duty flight case- it is a 240 volt model

you will never really find synths with more history than Hannett's collection

will ship anywhere in the world"

"Warehouse 605" - Hannett / JD / Dark style studio tracking & mixing

Published on Mar 27, 2017 SynthMania

"Tracking & Mixing a 'dark' song in the style of Martin Hannett / Joy Division / Bauhaus / Sisters of Mercy etc. of the late '70s / early '80s."

Powertran Transcendent 2000 comes in at 2:55. This one isn't too synth heavy, but it is fun to watch and the Transcendent 2000 was one of Martin Hannett' main synths.

Powertran Transcendent 2000 Synthesiser Demo

via this auction
"It is an unusual single-oscillator fully analogue monosynth produced in kit form by Powertran, UK in the late 1970s. It was used by legendary producer Martin "Zero" Hannett on Joy Division's "Unknown Pleasures" album - mostobviously on the track "Insight" where it can be heard wibbling away over Peter Hook's bassline.

As befitting a synthesiser designed by Tim Orr, the man behind the extraordinary EMS Synthi, the Transcendent 2000 has a couple of little surprises up its sleeve, namely:
1. The ADSR envelope generator can be set to repeat mode, turning the envelopes into a second (low-range) LFO
2. The ADSR envelope generator can be bypassed, allowing the oscillator to sound indefinitely, perfect for drones, wind noises etc
3. The oscillator has 2 waveforms, a variable square and a triangle. Somewhat unusually, the later's shape is adjustable from a ramp to a sawtooth allowing some rather subtle, delicate timbres to be created.
4. There is also VCF input that takes the supplied expression pedal, allowing the filter's cutoff to be played like a wah-wah. Talking of which, the filter can self-resonate with the best of them and can be switched between bp and lp modes.

Sound-wise, this synth excels at abstract drones and soundscapes, random machine noises, flowing leads and rather haunting solo violin type sounds. It's certainly no Synthi but it capable of far more sonic goodness than its simple architecture might suggest!"

Powertran Transcendent 2000 Demo by The Purple People Strings
"All sounds (including drums and percussion) generated by my Transcendent 2000. Recorded in Reaper with a little delay and reverb added afterwards.

The Transcendent 2000 was an English single oscillator monosynth produced in kit form in the late 1970s. Designed by Tim Orr of EMS, the synth was used by Joy Division on their debut album "Unknown Pleasures". Examples are now extremely rare."

EMS Powertran Transcendent 2000 Analog Vintage Synth

via this auction

"Ok here is a bit of an oddity its a boxed Transcendent 2000 synth which was designed by EMS and sold mainly in kit form in the late 70s. This unit comes in original box with filtersweep pedal. This synth was used by many UK acts including Joy Division - there is actually a picture of Bernard Sumner and Martin Hannett using one in the studio - in the 70s. This one is in excellent cosmetic condition although it has lost many of the silver caps on the knobs and two knobs are missing (easy to buy new ones from Maplin of course!!!). Performance wise its a bit quirky - the original owner had it stored since the 80s, I bought it for a studio session now completed - all knobs work and effect the sound and all keys trigger although the filter section is a bit iffy as it cuts out at times, it needs a proper service to get the best from it. That said it can produce some truly evil sub frequencies and ridiculous Hawkwind-like pink noise sweeps. You can get some great lead sounds on it too. Inside everything is clean and it has been neatly put together. There are schematics online and loads of mod options for those adept with a soldering iron."

TRANSCENDENT 2000 ANALOG SYNTH by TIM ORR of EMS

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

You can find a demo video of this auctual synth here.

"The T2000 was sold only in kit form and this unit has been very well constructed (see interior photo) with a nice style of large knurled control knobs chosen, and unusually a small Roland style knob added to what is usually just the stump of a potentiometer for overall tuning.

Although this unit has never been anywhere near Martin Hannett or any member of Joy Division or New Order AFAIK, it was the unit featured in the book "Analog Synthesizers" (2nd Edition 2019, pp. 364-5) and for many sounds on the CD "Sequencer Loops" (2002) by Mark Jenkins of which a brand new copy is included.
