Relaxing Synth Ambient | Storks on morning rooftops

Synth & Sundry

"Synth ambient made with Ableton Live internal electronic instruments and effects: Electric, String & Collision by AAS, Wavetable, Operator, Kasio M4L by Oli Larkin

A commenter on the previous stork synth music video described the aim of this type of video perfectly: "This is like a deep tissue massage for [the] soul"

Apologies for the occasionally camera shakes. Sound is not affected in any way though.

More relaxing synth storks: [posted here]

"vLinn 2.0 VST is actually 99% done and is now compatible with x86 x64 VST2 VST3 AU for Windows and OSX.
If you do not know about the vLinn VST (Legendary Linn LM-1 drum machine accurate emulation) check out the website :)

V2.0 also earned some new features and improvements like:
- Individual Panning
- Global tuning offset via MIDI PitchBend
- MIDI OUT (through)
- Exponential Velocity Curve (full mode only)
- ALL voices (12+1) are now replaceable by compatible imported EPROM images (original .bin files) no more need to set the size of the EPROM memory manually ( vLinn does it for you)
-The Additional Custom Voice can now be triggered from the GUI
- Overall GUI improvement"

via the Oli Larkin blog: "Recently I helped Aly James to bring his great VLinn Linn LM-1 emulation to Mac OSX (and Win x64). I rewrote the plug-in in C++, and in the process we added some cool new features."

VirtualCZ Casio CZ Emulator Now Available

Video previously posted here.

"Plug-in Boutique have released VirtualCZ - a new plug-in inspired by an iconic series of digital synthesisers made in the 1980s.

VirtualCZ uses Phase Distortion - which is similar to FM Synthesis but easier to program. It can make great pads, leads, bass, percussion and RAVE ORGAN sounds that will fit into a wide variety of genres. Many people fondly remember the CZ synths and they have become retro-classics that are highly sought after, having been used on countless techno, house, rave and synth-pop records in the late 80s and early 90s. Lots of artists still use them today for their unique sounds.

The synthesis engine of the original hardware is modelled in the plug-in which can load and transmit CZ SYSEX patches, but the plug-in goes beyond the hardware to offer new sound possibilities and usability features. It’s much more fun to edit, since all the important synthesis parameters have their own control. It includes things not found on the originals such as switchable envelope generators (ADSR or 8-Stage MSEG) and Unison modes.
Developed by Oli Larkin (www.olilarkin.co.uk) with graphics by Philippe Decuyper (www.eareckon.com), VirtualCZ will ship with a library of great presets offering both retro and modern sounds by Plug-in Boutique's sound designers and artists.
VirtualCZ comes in VST2, VST3, Audio Unit and AAX plug-in formats plus Standalone app for Mac and PC.

VirtualCZ is available to purchase now exclusively from www.pluginboutique.com for £59 / $99."

Tambura Model by Oli Larkin

A new model in the works from Oli Larkin made using faust. I asked Oli if this would be coming to VST and/or iOS. At this point he is not sure. If you are not familiar with Oli Larkin's work click here for previous posts featured here on MATRIXSYNTH as well as the Oli Larkin blog.

BrotherHood - Kanjira and Darbuka - iOS Music

Published on Mar 12, 2013 gercek dorman·136 videos

1st app is Samvada.  Details below.  I recognize the second drum app and the third but forget the names.

iTunes:
Samvada - iotic
iOS Devices on eBay - Daily Tech Deals

"Samvada creates sympathetic strings that resonate when you sing or play into the microphone. Ideal for practising and performing Indian music. Samvada tunefully accompanies you in any scale or raga you choose. Like the taraf (sympathetic) strings of a sitar, only the notes you play in tune will ring out - helping you improve your ear and providing a harmonious accompaniment.

A number of presets come with Samvada, or you can make and share your own. The thirteen strings can be fine-tuned to the notes of a recording, or you can tune them to what sounds best to you or your teacher. The default presets are based on tunings from maestro recordings, plus some additional settings for Western-style scale tunings.

Samvada is also useful for:

• Tuning stringed instruments
• Helping with making and tuning instruments - e.g. flutes
• Providing a pleasant sonic mask for background sounds and voices
• Playing, like a swar mandal or harp
• Using as an Aeolian harp, in windy conditions

Samvada can be used at the same time as a drone recording, or other apps designed for music, such as the excellent iTabla Pro app by Prasad Upasani.

For a similar effect as a plug-in for desktop and laptop machines, try DroneBox by Oli Larkin (New version coming September 2012).

Samvada is a Sanskrit word meaning harmonious dialogue or communication. The word relates to the musical concept of samvadi, and the instrument the samvadini.

Samvada could not have been made without the generous help of:

JSONKit — for presets — Copyright (c) 2011, John Engelhart"

Oli Larkin's pMix Released

pMix demo

YouTube Uploaded by olilarkin on Jan 26, 2012

"Oli Larkin has released pMix - which is a sound design and performance tool for Mac OS X that allows you to morph between VST plug-in presets using an intuitive graphical interface.
Presets are represented by coloured balls that are positioned on a 2D plane. The size of each ball and its proximity to the cursor affects the weight of the associated preset in the interpolation.
Morphing between presets often results in the discovery of interesting hybrid sounds. By constraining sound manipulations within a predesigned "interpolation space" complex transitions can be achieved that would otherwise be hard to manage.

pMix can load four VST2 audio plug-ins. It comes with a suite of specially designed plug-ins which cover a range of experimental DSP techniques (noise generators, FM synthesis, formant filtering, frequency shifting etc). These plug-ins can also be used in other VST host applications.

Features:

• Realtime VST2 plug-in chainer.
• Live processing of audio input, file playback or instrument plug-ins.
• Unique multi-layered preset interpolation.
• Rich visual control interface with real-time feedback.
• Includes a suite of high-quality audio FX and generators.
• Many options for randomisation.
• Break-point function and "freehand" automation modes.
• Audio file player & recorder built in.
• Controllable via OSC and MIDI.
• Can be used with other applications via Rewire or Soundflower or Jack.

Available now for free on the Mac App Store:

Kasio - Phase Distortion Max/MSP Software Synthesizer

via Oli Larkin blog where you'll find a download link.

"This is a max patch that I have been working on for a while. There is an ongoing discussion on the C74 forums about the lack of fully featured synth examples, so I thought I would polish this up and put it out there. It's loosely modelled on a Casio CZ101 and uses phase distortion synthesis, which is a kind of FM. The UI is purely functional. It doesn't use any externals."

ol.dinsync~ max msp external

ol.dinsync~ max msp external from Oli Larkin on Vimeo.

Get it here

"Sync 24ppqn dinsync drum machines and sequencers to Max and make them swing.

ol.dinsync~ turns a ramp from a phasor~ into 24ppqn dinsync and allows you to slew the signal for swing/shuffle

This only works with an audio interface that passes DC, such as most MOTU interfaces.

Dronebox Demo video

Dronebox Demo video from Oli Larkin on Vimeo.

"This is a quick demo of dronebox being used to process electric guitar. In the video i turn on one comb filter, change the pitch and then turn on four comb filters which are tuned to the notes D,F and A (d minor chord). When i play one of these notes on the guitar the corresponding comb filter will resonate. For more info see olilarkin.co.uk" follow-up to this post.

* 6 comb filters that can be tuned by note name, frequency, or by midi input
* Volume, Pan, Polarity, Damping and Decay time controls for each comb filter
* Oscilator to reinforce the drone
* Excitation section to feed the comb filters with different noise
* Resonant filter to warm up the input signal
* Four syncable LFOs with 5 different waveshapes
* Modulation Matrix
* Pitch bender to adjust the pitch of all combs at once
* Delay effect
* Reverb effect
* Tool Tips for each section"
See the Dronebox page for demos and more.

Polycomb

Polycomb is a polyponic comb filter VST effect. It is similar to Dronebox but the comb filters are controled by polyphonic midi input. This allows rapid chord changes with up to 32 note polyphony.

Features:
* 32 note polyponic comb filter controlled via midi or onscreen keyboard
* Up to 6 voices of Unison for thick detuned effects
* Excitation section to feed the comb filters with different noise
* ASR Envelope which can be routed to Volume, Filter Cutoff and Pitch
* Resonant filter to warm up the input signal
* Pitch LFO
* Filter LFO
* Pitch bender to adjust the pitch of all combs at once.
* Delay effect
