Acid On A Budget with The Musicology Group's New Digital Filter for Propellerhead's Reason

"We’ve been having lots of fun with the new Digital Filter and we thought we would share some of our findings. For those who are still championing the sub-genre affectionately known as Acid House, we have some good news for you. With a few simple elements from Reason plus the Digital Filter, you can create your very own TB-303. Check out the full article for more detail, download the combinator, and visit our product page to get started."

"Product details

Continuously Variable Slope

All parameters of the Digital Filter are continuously variable including cutoff frequency, resonance, and slope. You can now morph between the subtle effects of a 1-pole filter to the extremity of a 12-pole filter all while maintaining a sense of musicality.

Envelope Generator

To help provide movement to your sound the Digital Filter comes with a built-in Envelope Generator that is always active, dial the amount to zero to disengage. The Envelope Generator has standard controls for Attack-Decay-Sustain-Release and also has a Timescale parameter that adjusts the maximum time for each state. The response can also be automatically looped for asynchronous rhythmic variation as well as triggered via an external Gate and/or the Envelope Follower.

Envelope Follower

The built-in Envelope Follower tracks the amplitude of the audio input signal or the sidechain audio input. This can be used to add a subtle shimmering quality to your sound or dialed up even higher for auto-wah effects. Both the Envelope Generator and Envelope Follower responses can be added together to create more complex modulation schemes.

Polyphonic Support

For extended support with polyphonic systems or configurations involving independent voices, this device includes CV input for both Note and Gate parameters as well as accepts note events from Combinators when assigned. When processing note information, setting the Cutoff Frequency has no effect, instead an Offset parameter is provided to scale the position of the cutoff frequency relative to the note being played.

Just the Beginning

This device has a lot of capability packed into a small but efficient package to help you create impactful music. Whether you are combining trigger sources to create interesting rhythmic variations, or toggling the LP/HP switch to drop the bass, there is a lot left to discover with the Digital Filter, we invite you to try it out."
