Synth Improv 2015 05 24

Published on May 24, 2015 Randy Piscione

"A bit of improv with the synths. No drama or head-bobbing, I’d only hurt myself. Just playing. Sound comes from the camera (Panasonic DMC-ZS3) mic (stereo), it’s not great but it works. Hit "SHOW MORE" for the equipment details.

For the gearheads, bass is coming from the Eurorack, mostly a Living VCO and two nonlinearcircuits VCOs, sequenced by a BlackSeq from d:Machinery and quantized by Distings. A MIDIAlf is running slowly to change the key on the quantizers, and clocking the sequencer through a Pamela’s Workout (which is not all that happy about taking in a MIDI clock).

Pad and lead are provided by a Roland Juno 60 and Alpha Juno 2 on one side, and the Roland A90EX closest to the camera is controlling itself, 6 Shruthis, a PreenFM, Korg MicroStation and iPad running Animoog. The lead you can hear but can’t see comes from a Kurzweil K2600XS.

I am disappointed to admit that even after all these years, playing lead with my left hand still confuses me. The old guys like me might notice a bit of a shout-out to Earth, Wind and Fire."
