"Freedom è un brano di musica elettronica prodotto da Davide Micheli utilizzando sintetizzatori elettronici tra cui alcuni Italiani moderni come il 'GRPA4', ma anche vintage anni 80 come 'Elka Twin61' e 'CRB Diamond 910 Gold M'. Altri sintetizzatori utilizzati sono il 'Moog Voyager XL', il 'Waldrof Quantum', e per ultimo 'Oberheim OB-X8'. La Drum Machine è una Drum degli anni 80 molto famosa ai sui tempi la 'Dynacord P20' 8-Bit Drum Machine.

Il brano musicale è completamene libero da tutti gli schemi dettati dall'industria musicale di oggi e rappresenta il mio modo di pensare, ascoltare e creare la musica elettronica. Mi piace utilizzare strumenti elettronici vintage e strumenti elettronici moderni fondendo insieme le sonorità del passato con quelle offerte degli strumenti più moderni. In particolare, alcuni strumenti vintage Italiani degli anni 80 trovo che siano particolarmente belli e in grado di ispirare ed evocare atmosfere non facilmente riproducibili con altri strumenti. Mi riferisco al sintetizzzatore vintage 'Elka Twin61', per me la regina di tutte le String Machine, e agli organi CRB come quello usato il CRB910 Gold M versione trasportabile; un unicum ormai molto raro da trovare. Il brano musicale è nato inizialmente creando la parte di sequenza principale sul sintetizzatore GRPA4 e si è evoluto aggiungendo altre parti con l'Elka Twin61 ecc. La sequenza di note con il GRPA4 è una sequenza che ad ogni due passi in avanti esegue un passo indietro creando una modalità sonora praticamente impossibile da ricreare uguale con un Sequencer standard che procede solo a passi in avanti. Anche l'impostazione dei filtri e degli oscillatori sui rami del sequencer del GRPA4 sono tali da non poter essere ricreati uguali con nessun altro sequencer. Il sintetizzatore GRPA4 è uno strumento unico, iconico e molto potente, creato artigianalmente da "Paolo Groppioni" e usato tra gli altri da artisti quali Jean-Michel Jarre, Franco Battiato, Hans Zimmer, Jordan Rudess, Tangerine Dream, Vitalic, Subsonica, Michele Canova Iorfida e altri importanti compositori (https://www.grpsynthesizer.it/index.p.... Ho scelto come miniatura proprio una fotogramma di me stesso con il GRPA4 durante la registrazione di Freeedom. Il mio modo di concepire la musica fino ad ora non ha preso in considerazione l'utilizzo di Artificial intelligence (AI) per la creazione di musica. Questo non per una mia contrarietà alla AI ma perché credo che affidarsi ad AI per creare la musica riduca l'ispirazione che uno strumento reale, sebbene elettronico come un sintetizzatore sotto le mani del compositore, possa trasmettere ad un artista che crea musica. In altre parole tra l'artista e gli strumenti musicali che egli usa si crea sempre una relazione vera, una specie di empatia capace di ispirare la creatività e far vibrare le corde spirituali più profonde dell'artista a secconda del suono. A me questo non succede davanti ad uno schermo di un computer e a un prompt da sottoporre alla AI. Penso che l'utilizzo di AI nella creazione della musica possa tendere nel tempo ad appiattire la creatività umana canalizzandola principalmente solo verso soluzioni più probabili e già parzialmente note a seconda delle strutture di addestramento disponibili nella AI ma non fuori dagli schemi. Infatti, AI utilizza modelli statistici basati su quello che già esiste e non su quello che non esiste ancora limitando di fatto la creatività dello spirito umano che invece vuole viaggiare in piena "libertà", da cui il titolo del brano "Freedom", verso universi inesplorati e non ancora disponibili alle AI. Questo forse è un problema di molta musica di oggi: troppo prevedibile, troppo noiosa, troppo priva di creatività, insomma troppo, troppo, troppo poco coinvolgente e molto appiattita trasversalmente tra gli autori. Lo sviluppo della creatività richiede tempo, energie, rielaborazione successive, pause e infine consapevolezza nella organizzazione dell'opera creata. Se quando ho finito la produzione di un brano che mi ha richiesto fatica e tempo dico a me stesso: mi piace, ho fatto un buon lavoro e sono soddisfatto, allora credo che valga molto di più di creare un opera con l'AI dove non si sa nulla di come viene prodotta ma in 30 s l'hai.

Per questo motivo utilizzo strumenti reali spesso vintage, ne curo la manutenzione e il funzionamento e li tengo come un collezionista. Mi ispira suonarli e sentire la pasta sonora prodotta dai circuiti elettronici veri, talvolta un po' rumorosi nel vintage e imperfetti ma veri. La musica troppo perfetta creata al computer mi annoia perché è senza anima e senza storia.

"Freedom" is an electronic music track produced by Davide Micheli using a variety of synthesizers—ranging from modern Italian models like the GRPA4 to 1980s vintage units such as the Elka Twin61 and the CRB Diamond 910 Gold M. The track breaks free from the conventions of today's music industry, reflecting my personal approach to thinking about, listening to, and creating electronic music. I find certain 1980s Italian vintage instruments particularly beautiful; they inspire and evoke atmospheres that are difficult to replicate with other equipment. I am referring specifically to the Elka Twin61—which I consider the queen of all string machines—and CRB organs like the portable CRB910 Gold M, a unique and now very rare instrument. The track began with the creation of the main sequence on the GRPA4 synthesizer and evolved through the addition of parts played on the Elka Twin61 and other instruments. The GRPA4 sequence follows a pattern where every two steps forward are followed by one step back, creating a sonic texture that is virtually impossible to replicate exactly with a standard sequencer that only moves forward. Furthermore, the filter and oscillator settings across the GRPA4's sequencer channels create a sound that cannot be duplicated by any other sequencer. The GRPA4 synthesizer is a... ...a unique, iconic, and highly powerful instrument, handcrafted by Paolo Groppioni and used by artists such as Jean-Michel Jarre, Franco Battiato, Hans Zimmer, Jordan Rudess, Tangerine Dream, Vitalic, Subsonica, Michele Canova Iorfida, and other prominent composers (https://www.grpsynthesizer.it/index.p...). For the thumbnail, I chose a still of myself with the GRP A4 during the recording of *Freedom*. Up to this point, my approach to music has not involved the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for composition. This is not because I am opposed to AI, but because I believe that relying on AI to create music diminishes the inspiration that a real instrument—even an electronic one like a synthesizer played by the composer—can convey to an artist. In other words, a genuine relationship forms between the artist and the instruments they use—a kind of empathy capable of sparking creativity and resonating with the artist's deepest spiritual chords, depending on the sound. I do not experience this when facing a computer screen and entering a prompt for an AI. I believe that using AI in music creation may eventually tend to flatten human creativity, channeling it primarily toward the most probable solutions—those already partially known based on the AI's training data—rather than encouraging "outside-the-box" thinking. Indeed, AI employs statistical models based on what already exists rather than on what does not yet exist; this effectively limits the creativity of the human spirit, which seeks to travel in total "freedom"—hence the title of the track, *Freedom*—toward unexplored universes not yet accessible to AI. Perhaps this is a problem with much of today's music: it is too predictable, too boring, and too devoid of... ...creativity—in short, it is far, far, far too unengaging and feels very homogenized across different artists. Developing creativity requires time, energy, iterative refinement, pauses, and, ultimately, an awareness of how the work is structured. When I finish producing a track that demanded time and effort, and I tell myself, "I like it, I did a good job, and I’m satisfied," I believe that holds far more value than creating a piece with AI—where you know nothing about the production process, yet you have the result in just 30 seconds.

That is why I use real instruments—often vintage ones; I take care of their maintenance and operation, treating them like a collector would. I find inspiration in playing them and hearing the sonic texture produced by actual electronic circuits—circuits that may be slightly noisy or imperfect in vintage gear, but are authentic. Music created on a computer that is "too perfect" bores me because it lacks soul and history.
