Rare Music App on an Old Pocket Computer (part 2)

video upload by Alexander Zolotov

Part 1 here

"Demonstration of the PsyTexx music tracker on the old and slow Palm Tungsten T PDA (16mb RAM; 144 MHz CPU).

Music: NightRadio - Moon Explorers (2005)
Download: https://nightradio.bandcamp.com/album...
Full discography: https://nightradio.bandcamp.com

PsyTexx is the first Amiga MOD-based player and tracker for PalmOS. It includes a 12-channel sampler and pattern editor with support for non-standard audio effects (echo,filter,distortion,etc.).
This is one of my first music apps before I started creating SunVox.

Before iOS

Before iOS there was Palm OS. I remember having a Handspring Visor and a color Palm m505. The internal battery on the Palm eventually died. The Visor however runs on AAA batteries and is still going to this day. You could buy a MIDI adapter for it which you can see allows it to drive external gear in these videos from Palm Sounds. The software apps are still available at the miniMusic website. Palm OS was first to essentially have both the iOS layout and the simplicity of having your device morph into a singular specific tool depending on the app loaded. Apple basically turned it into a phone. I always wondered what the logic was behind Apple dismissing Android when Palm was first. It's curious that the comparison rarely comes up in the iOS vs Android wars.

One of my favorite MIDI Sequencers for the Palm OS by miniMusic. I used to drive my synths and TR-909 with it. Unfortunately it hasn't been ported to iOS yet.
