Synthrotek Low Pass Gate - Critical Listening Demo - West Coast Modular

Published on Aug 17, 2018 synthrotek

http://store.synthrotek.com/LPG_c_174...

"Put on some headphones and get into the mix of the Synthrotek West Coast System!

The LPG is a West Coast Synthesis staple! Our dual Low Pass Gate creates organic percussion timbres, paving the way for sonic exploration with a Buchla/Subotnick vibe.

The LPG has two identical low pass gates in one module. Its unique non-linear qualities emulate percussion timbres like congas, bongos, plucks, etc. The LPG is vactrol based, which creates natural-sounding decays. When the CV input is pinged by short/fast envelopes, it results in more organic sounds like bongos. The slide pot functions in two ways: when the the CV input is not patched, it attenuates/mixes the audio signal. When the CV jack is patched, it attenuates the output level and changes the timbre of the audio signal.

Each LPG channel can be used as a VCA. VCA mode bypasses the low pass filter and resonance and doesn't color the sound of your input audio. The vactrol gives the VCA a living, breathing, non-linear response.

We tested a number of vactrols for this module, and we liked the pre-tested NSL-7053 best of all. The NSL-7053 has a slower response and a more exponential response curve. The VTL5C4 has a slightly faster response and a more linear response curve. But the LPG will work with a number of different types/brands, including dual vactrols. In fact, each channel can be built with a different set of vactrols."

Synthrotek Analog VCO - All textures, No talk

Published on Aug 9, 2018 File Transfer Protocol

"Except for the obvious acoustic sounding drums, all sounds in this video are produced by the new Synthrotek Analog VCO. It may have been patched through, around or over top of any combination of the following other modules from Synthrotek: FOLD, ROBOTO, VCA, QUADRANGLE, ADSR, STEREO OUT, DLY, VERB, and at one point it was mutated in an FM fashion by a Mother like module from a company that rhymes with rogue. For more info go here: http://store.synthrotek.com/VCO_c_173...

*The lawyers wanted me to say: I cannot be held responsible for any odd behavior induced in your household pets. They react to killer tones, I can't control that. It’s not my fault if they try to mate with you."

Synthrotek VCO | Modular Vignette Series

Published on Aug 3, 2018 File Transfer Protocol

"Showcasing some of the incredibly rich sounds you can achieve with the Synthrotek Analog VCO. Everything that you hear me playing on the keyboard (Sequential Circuits Six-Trak) are actually sounds coming from the Synthrotek VCO only. (I'm just using the keyboard as a midi controller)

This VCO is based on the Curtis CEM3340 reissue chip. You can learn more about it here: http://store.synthrotek.com/VCO--Anal...

Patch Notes: I'm using all three outputs simultaneously in this video. I start with the Saw and Pulse panned left and right, then add a patch to modulate pulsewidth through the pulse width modulation input, giving a really thick sound. Eventually, I create a harsher tone taking advantage of the mod in, using the pulse from another oscillator to rough up the Synthrotek VCO's sound. Finally, I add in the final wave from the VCO which is the Triangle wave, running through the Synthrotek Fold module. This creates a sharp attack for the FM sound. All envelopes and LFO's are coming from the Synthrotek Quadrangle, and VCA, pathced finally into the Synthrotek Stereo Mixer."

The “Little Green NAND” synth

Published on Jun 18, 2018 Mike Sisk

"This is a small noise making synth I built from a Synthrotek 'NAND Synth' PCB and the head from a Toy Story 'Little Green Men' alien toy. Main pitch is controlled by the alien’s antenna. Knobs in each ear control the two oscillators with switches to shut each on or off independently. LED installed in each eye, red in the center for power and green on the sides to show the rate of each oscillator. Power switch and volume control on back with audio output on the nose. “Dive bomb” button and switch that select between two large capacitors which give a winding down sound as unit slowly loses power. Oscillator 2 switch selects a light depended resistor attached to the back of the oscillator 1 LED which in turn causes both to be controlled from oscillator 1 knob. Power starve knob that limits the power from the battery and causes a similar effect to the dive bomb but more drawn out. And lastly on the back of the head there is a CV input and switch that select between battery power or external CV. All of this is base around the 4093 IC on a PCB from synthrotek."

Quadrangle Kit Released! - Quad Eurorack Envelope / Function Generator - Modular Synthesizer

Published on May 18, 2018 synthrotek

"The Quadrangle is now in Kit form!

The Quadrangle is quad cascading triggered envelope generator with bipolar output attenuversion. Each channel has voltage control over attack and decay/release, end of attack and end of cycle trigger outputs, and mode (AR, loop and AD). Each channel's EOC is normalled to the next gate input, resulting in interesting rhythmic opportunities. Channel 4 has a "stop" or "continuous looping" switch which allows either a "one shot" cascaded envelope or continuous cycling. The SUM output allows for longer and more dynamic bipolar envelopes, perfect for interesting modulation. Users also have voltage control over all of the attacks and decay/releases simultaneously when using the ALL A and ALL D/R input jacks. Massive function generation, modulation, rhythm and versatility sets the Quadrangle in a class of its own.

Features:
4 Cascading envelope generators
Attenuverters for each envelope output (dial in that secret sauce!)
Attack, Decay/Release and Loop modes per channel
Super fast ~2 mS (Audio Rate) envelopes
CV over Attack and Decay/Release per channel
CV over ALL Attack and ALL Decay/Release
Bipolar Voltage SUM output of all envelopes
End of Attack & End of Cycle trigger outputs per channel
Normalled EOC to next channel Gate input (broken when jack is patched)
One Shot or Continuous Looping of all channels
Specifications:
Module width: 20HP
Module depth: 15mm
Current draw:
+12V: 64mA
-12V: 44mA
Comes with power cable, 2.5mm and 3.5mm screws"

Synthrotek:s ROBOTOize Pop Music! - Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit

Published on May 16, 2018 synthrotek

"Do you desire to have a vocoder, pitch shifter, speak-n-spell effect, vibrato, 8-bit modulator and a bit crusher sounding module all in a lo-fi heavily CV controllable package? Well surprise! we read your mind! The Roboto module is all these and more (and it has a neat Cylon looking graphic that lights up). Check it out!

Features:
Can be in either Robot mode or Pitch mode, but not both. Handy LEDs tell you which mode you're in. The ROBOT button toggles between the two.
Vibrato toggles on and off. Works in either Robot mode or Pitch mode.
Robot and Vibrato CV inputs activate those modes (and deactivates in the case of vibrato) upon receiving a gate pulse. Gate pulses in these inputs are just like pushing their corresponding buttons. Expected transition is from 0V to +5V (and back to 0V), but it will handle any voltage within the power supply range without damaging the module. Transition between what is considered "off" and "on" is at approximately 2.3V.
Rate pot/input control the clock speed in the chip. A CV input of 0-5V will mimic the range of the pot, but voltages outside of this range will push the rate setting further.
The CV input is mixed with the voltage coming from the pot.
The pitch pot is used to pitch the audio up or down when in pitch mode. It has 7 zones/pitches; 12:00 is normal pitch, and there are 3 steps up and 3 steps down from there.
0-5V fed into the Pitch jack mimic the full travel of the pot (0V is lowest, 5V is highest, normal is ~2.5V). Voltages outside this range are tolerated but won't provide any added functionality.
The pitch pot is disabled when a plug is inserted into the CV jack.
Roboto is fun at parties.
IN LVL adjusts the level of the incoming signal.
MIX:
CCW=input signal only
CW=processed signal only."

New Synthrotek Fold Module for Eurorack - Demo | 4hp Wave Folder and Ring Mod

Published on Apr 25, 2018 File Transfer Protocol

"Putting the new FOLD module from Synthrotek through its paces. It’s a wave folder and ring mod packed into 4hp. It’s great for bringing new tones and textures out of your existing setup. In this video I’m running the saw wave of a Moog Mother 32 through the wave fold section of the unit. Later on in the video you will notice I patch the pulse wave into the ring mod section creating an even thicker cyborg-ish sound. The slider format of the FOLD module is very playable and begs to be tweaked in real-time even though it has an input to modulate with CV."

Moog Circuit Bending Challenge 2018

Published on Apr 14, 2018 Mike Sisk

"This is my entry to the 2018 Moog Circuit Bending Challenge. I circuit bent a Barbie Karaoke by adding multiple feedback distortions, pitch adjustments, and delay length. I also added an "Atari Punk Console" built with a 556 IC as a sound source and a low pass filter that is controlled by a small joystick from an old Playstation controller. Also added an old telephone handset as a microphone input.

I call this device the "Atari Punk Barbie."
