Jam with two Erica Synths DB-01s: The Double DB March

video by Richard DeHove

"So I love the Erica Synths DB-01 so much I bought another one! But then I thought I'd better separate them a bit so got two cheap Joyo EQ units. What you hear in this jam is just the two DB-01s going through the EQ units and the delays. Left unit gets an EQ and the DuoTime; the right unit gets an EQ and the Rubberneck. There are no other instruments, no other processing, no limiting or compression, not even any volume changes applied in the DAW. Apart from cutting out some boring bits and errors what you see it what it is.

The left unit is on a very simple 16-step pattern with a synced LFO and put in drone mode. The right unit has an unsynced LFO and a 64-step pattern. From time to time I play the units manually in keyboard mode (which overrides the pattern), and a couple of times the right unit as an arpeggio.

Certainly it would be better with further processing and drums but I thought it more useful to leave it exactly as played where you can directly see the effect of all the knob movements. Sometimes a very slight movement can have a big effect. The sub-oscillator is especially quirky."

MOOG TAURUS Bass Pedal Synthesizer (1975) Steve Hackett - Shadow of the Hierophant - Mellotron

Moog Taurus bass pedal cover of Steve Hackett`s "Shadow of the Hierophant"

Moog Taurus analog bass synthesizer pedals from the year
3 presets: Taurus, Bass, Tuba
1 variable and full programmed sound
The Taurus 1 use linear VCOs. The Minimoog and the later Taurus 2 and 3 use exponential VCOs. Linear VCOs are the secret for the stable bass sound of the Taurus 1.

I used the Roland M-VS-1 for the Mellotron (choir, strings) and synth sounds.

Simmons SDS6 and MODULARS

video by zack dagoba

"The Simmons SDS6 is an absolutely stunning rhythm sequencer from the 1983. It came out just after the introduction of the first Simmons drum kit the 1982 SDSV. It has a highly intuitive interface and can trigger up to 8 sounds, and be synced to incoming clock, so it makes it perfect for hooking up with modular gear. Here I am using it with the SDS200 (1984) and the Emu and Polyfusion modulars. You can chain patters together to create extremely long patters or songs, but here I'm just looping round one page (32 steps)"

DIY spill-proof dust cover for your hardware synthesisers

video by Floyd Steinberg

"If you've got an hour or so of time, some old shirts and a plastic bag and a #sewing kit, why not try to create some #DIY dust covers for your precious hardware #synthesisers, pardon me, clothware #sewnthesisers ? (if you have a sewing machine at hand, this might take even less time). I think this cover doesn't look too bad and it's definitely less expensive and more eco-friendly than the plastic covers you can buy in stores."

Best Ambient Synth Shootout #106: Casio CZ-1 - Song 2

video by Christian's Sonic Spaces

Song 1 here

"This is the second song with the CZ-1. It's a 16 voice Phase Distortion synthesizer from the mid 80s. The only Casio Synth from the CZ series that featured velocity and aftertouch sensitivity.

I used for the recording the following FX chain: CZ-1 - Alesis Philtre - Digitech Obscura - Pigtronix Echolution 2 Deluxe - GFI System Specular Reverb 2. Depending on the recorded track some FX are deactivated

The signal went through a Presonus StudioLive 16.0.2 into the PC via USB for recording. To create the complete song I recorded consecutively several stereo tracks. The final song was then mastered with a bit EQ and compression on some tracks and some limiting on the master track."

Perplex On: My Favorite Microfreak Patches (incl. Firmware 3.0)

video by Perplex On

"I revisited the #microfreak after he chilled on a shelf for some time. The recent firmware update introduced some nice new sound engines as well as new patches. I'd like to show you some of the patches I particularly enjoyed. Some of them are stock presets and some are modified ones or own creations. All in all I’m still intrigued by the sonic range the microfreak has to offer. Added a pinch of reverb and compression (Enventide Blackhole and FAC Maximizer on the iPad). Served with projection mappings to distract from my poor playing. Enjoy!"

It's not gold but at $25,231.12, it is cheaper than the 10th Anniversary Voyager. Curious about that extra $31.12.

"Dated 1973, and owned by Pink Floyd management (based on the serial number check). Completely original."

Anyone confirm this? The SN appears to be 4711 K or 4711 KS. I forget if they add the S to the KS SNs.

Quasimidi Sirius virtual analog synth / groovebox / vocoder / synthesizer

"The whole synth has this 90’s groovebox vibe however it is surprisingly good sounding thing. I had a Roland mc 505 and if I compare the two the Sirius sounds way more dynamic and detailed and the drums are punchier."
