PATCH / ROUTE 4 / arps & melodies / sounddesign exploration

video upload by Joranalogue Audio Design

"The 1V normalized routing inputs on ROUTE 4 make a lot of sense when you start using ROUTE 4 to change up an existing sequence, by either precision mixing the 1V/oct pitch cv with ROUTE 4s output or by using an additional V/oct input on your vcos (luckily GENERATE 3 Exp. FM inputs are nearly perfectly calibrated to accept V/oct signals). Using ORBIT 3 as a master control for all the switching on ROUTE 4 makes for a chaotic but controlled course of pitches."

New Eurorack Modules by Joranalogue Come to SUPERBOOTH

via Joranalogue

We've designed the circuits, made the prototypes, ran the tests... And now, with the entire synth world gathered in Berlin to celebrate Superbooth 2023, it's time to present our latest Eurorack developments!

A routing monster, a slender signal utility, and even some lights thrown into the mix: this year, we've got something for everyone. Read on below to learn more.

Can't wait to try them for yourself? Come find us at booth W435!

Route 4

Flexible Eurorack signal paths under gate or trigger control: that is the basic principle behind Route 4. Consisting of a pair of complementary routing sections, it grants access to a new level of signal routing options.

The module's top section is a 4-to-1 router. Any of the four signal inputs may be selected to be mixed into the section's output, as determined by the control inputs.

Control can either be gate or latch driven—in the latter case, the signal inputs are toggled on and off by received trigger pulses. Meanwhile, the solo/multi switch determines whether the inputs are exclusive, or if multiple may be active at the same time.

On the bottom, the 1-to-4 router provides the same feature set, with a single input being routed to up to four outputs and normalisation between the sections adding some patching convenience.

Joranalogue Audio Design ROUTE 4 / DELAY 1 / exquisite tracking / stacking and alternating gates

video upload by BRiES

"ROUTE 4 by Joranalogue Audio Design takes care of alternating between and mixing gates (several divisions of the clock). The top output of ROUTE 4 is then sent through a slew limiter which controls the frequency of a low pass filter (offscreen). When the gates get stacked/mixed (latch and multi) the amplitude of the envelope is higher then when the gates just alternate (solo), thus creating a lot of dynamic movement.
DELAY 1 is used as the voice that gets filtered. The pitch tracking on DELAY 1 is pristine.
PIVOT 2 alternates between 2 gate patterns for the kickdrum."

Joranalogue Audio Design / STEP 8 and ROUTE 4 are a match made in heaven

video upload by BRiES

"The newly announced ROUTE 4 by Joranalogue Audio Design is so very useful. I didn't think I would immediately like it this much. In this video I use it to transpose and change up a sequence from STEP 8, and it transforms the 8 step sequence into 16 step patterns. Very very cool."

Joranalogue Audio Design / BIAS 2 / ROUTE 4 / PIVOT 2 / DELAY 1 / patch from scratch

video upload by BRiES

"This is a video that I recorded a few months ago to share with my supporters. Keep in mind that some insights might be wrong, but of course the sounds are always up to date.

This was the caption for the video as I posted it privately on the 11th of may 2023: 'This is a messy first video with a few of the new Joranalogue Audio Design modules that they just announced yesterday. There's a 5 minute version of the jam at the end listed on youtube, but I wanted to share something more and up close with my supporters. So there you go. Please keep in mind that I haven't elaborately study ROUTE 4 (nor DELAY 1) so any insights could be wrong due to lack of thorough experimentation.'"

Patch Tuesday | Glistening Arps | Route 4, Delay 1, Generate 3

video upload by Joranalogue Audio Design

"This week on Patch Tuesday: Glistening Arpeggios

Our main sound source is a Generate 3, receiving pitch from a MIDI-to-CV keyboard. Mix 3 is used as a VCA, being modulated by one Contour 1. The two other Contour 1s accentuate the sound by opening the VCA even more. Their inverted signal is sent to the control inputs of Route 4, producing arpeggios.

The extra flavour in this patch comes from Delay 1, clocked by filter 8, resulting in beautiful, lo-fi arps."

DYNO / testing out the Alesis QUADRAVERB / JORANALOGUE and co / eurorack

video upload by BRiES

"I'm testing out a newly aqcuired Alesis Quadraverb which - together with the Lexicon MPX500 - will take care of the spaciousness from now on.

The Joranalogue Audio Design modules take care of most of the gating and transposing of the random sequence. I've found BIAS2 to be a really versatile little unit, in this patch I used the bottom half as a precision adder for pitch and the top part I'm using to route -2.5V to STEP 8 so it only generates negative CV. ORBIT 3 modulates a filter and PIVOT 2 which routes a saw or alternatively a triangle to DELAY 1. One GENERATE 3 is on modulation duty for the time parameter of DELAY 1.
ROUTE 4 is an awesome addition to any sequence: it let's you automate (or randomize) gating and transposing of several sequences. FILTER8 is used as a the final filter in the chain (instead of using a VCA).

I'm pretty pleased with the verbs on the QUADRAVERB. Hainbach was right about this unit, it does 'sit' well in the mix."

PTERODACTYL / Joranalogue Audio Design DELAY 1 / karplus strong sound processing / eurorack jam

video upload by BRiES

"Something I really only realised after making a few vst plugins (running on the Decent Sampler platform) is that karplus strong effects with a delay can create these wonderful outerworldly sounds. Something about the harmonics speak to me when you tune the delay line just right... I hadn't actually tried this type of synthesis (aka running a sound through a delay and then finding the right frequency on the delay). Instead of creating plucks I've never tried karplus strong as a processor.

So that's what I did with this prototype of DELAY 1 and I'm glad I did.

The newly annouced ROUTE 4 is taking care of the pitch sequence for both the lead and the bass (transposing, muting and gating a 6 note sequence coming from Moskwa 2. They all play really nice together, I think they're going to be friends."

Patch Tuesday | Analogue Accumulator with Step 8 & Route 4

video upload by Joranalogue Audio Design

"It's Patch Tuesday! Have you ever heard of an analogue accumulator? A 'battery for CV', an accumulator stores a voltage which can be charged or discharged in discrete steps.

In this ingenious feedback patch, every step taken by Step 8 adds or subtracts voltage, creating a rising or falling melody. Additionally, Step 8 sends CV to modulate multiple modules in the system, whilst also performing duty as a gate sequencer."

Machina Bristronica 2024

video uploads by sonicstate

Playlist:

1. Bristronica 24: MyVolts The Silent Alchemist Nears Shipping
We caught up with Caroline who gave us the latest update to the *Silent Alchemist*, a versatile power hub designed for musicians. Featuring five isolated USB-C outputs and a high-wattage sixth output capable of delivering 100 watts, the device can power a Mac with the remaining outputs providing 20 watts each. Its independent circuits ensure noise-free operation, catering to a variety of devices including the Dreadbox module and Sysmo slope generator.

The Silent Alchemist uses innovative step-up power tips to convert USB-C input to the correct voltage for various devices. There's also new feature: an uninterruptible power supply allowing seamless transition between wall and power bank sources. Also introduced were updated cables, such as silver candy cords and floating ring TRS to TS cables, expanding connection flexibility. The Silent Alchemist is expected to be available in December with a competitive pricing strategy.

2. Bristronica 24: Circuit Happy ML2M Clock Sync module updates
At Bristronica 2024, we caught up with the creator of the *ML2M*, who introduced us to the latest version. The ML2M is a compact Eurorack module with Wi-Fi capabilities, allowing seamless synchronization with Ableton Live, Bitwig Studio, and iOS music apps using Ableton Link without the need for cables. It either connects to an existing network or creates its own, ensuring robust sync even in environments with unreliable Wi-Fi. The module, which retains its 2HP size, now features MIDI integration through TRS jacks. Users can access a web interface to configure each output for different clock divisions and reset triggers, making setup straightforward and flexible.

Alongside the ML2M, there's also the Missing Link Junior. This desktop version offers the same functionality but in a box format, complete with MIDI and CV clock outputs. Both products are now accessible, with a starting price of $250.
3. Bristronica 24: Archaea Exchange Patching Module
At Machina Bristronica 2024, we caught up with Arran from ‪@archaea_modular_synthesis‬ who presented the *Exchange Module*. This programmable patcher, a year in the making, evolved from its early prototype stage to a fully functional module. Arran explained how the Exchange can route synth voices via a beam controller and three exchange modules installed within the skiff, allowing for versatile patching. Operating like a matrix patchbay, it enables users to select inputs and outputs with the push of a button, create presets, and chain multiple modules for synchronized patching.

Communication between the modules occurs over the Eurorack power bus as well as over MIDI via the USB-C connection. The Exchange maintains analog integrity, ensuring there’s no conversion latency. The forthcoming release expected in late November 2024, includes a USB-driven editor for enhanced control capabilities.
