Dual Ignition Patch Banks Combo On Sale for a Limited Time at MajorOSC.com

Major OSC

available at http://www.majorosc.com
Weekly tutorials available at patreon.com/majorosc

"James High, AKA MajorOSC, has been busy the past few months, designing many of the presets you may have recently heard in the new Modal Electronics Cobalt8 videos. He was also hired by Modal to do music for all of their Cobalt launch videos. But he wasn't quite finished...

Side Story:

After handing over the Masters of the 30-second Cobalt demo songs he had finished in the days prior to launch, MajorOSC teamed up with fellow Cobalt sound designer AlphaCodeSynth to work on an extended mix of the official demo song. AlphaCode used his own presets from Cobalt8 and produced an outstanding extended mix. You can have a listen here.

MajorOSC plans to continue releasing commercial patch banks, while also designing factory presets for several other company's upcoming synthesizers, both hardware and software. No further details at this time.

It's very likely you'll be hearing early patch previews on MajorOSC's new patreon page. His tutorials on Hydrasynth have been deep. His studio tips come from over a decade of production on Ableton, Logic and now, exclusively on Bitwig. Other synths he plans to feature in tutorials are the Novation Summit, and the Modal Cobalt8.

MajorOSC hit hard times last month with a series of setbacks related to the impact of the pandemic. He is doing everything possible to keep things running smoothly in the meantime. Head over to patreon.com/majorosc to gain access to the great tutorials, and keep the wheels in motion for this ambitious sound designer by becoming a patron.

MajorOSC Element 6 Full Bank Preview for Sequential's Prophet 6

Major OSC

Be sure to check out MajorOSC's other synth presets here as well.

"Out of leftfield, MajorOSC brings 100 fresh new patches to Sequential's Prophet 6! Available Now at http://MajorOSC.com/Element6

Element 6 presets sound organic and alive. Expect plenty of movement, rhythm, variety, and that unmistakable MajorOSC style; bold, musical, and addictive to play.

This is nothing short of a joy ride on one of the best VCO analog polysynths currently on the market.

No themes. No limits. Wait, no theme? Nope. So what is Element 6?

This is a collection of analog synth patches designed for electronic music. This should become exceedingly apparent once you hit the play button. Genres; Progressive House, Big Beat Techno / Industrial, Synth Pop, and Classic Rock. Expect a healthy dose of soft and sophisticated pads, grimey and far-out distorted epic leads, ultra smooth plucks and keys to throw down your latest chord progression ideas, and last but not least, some deep funky bass.
There's 2 main sections of Element 6, split evenly 50/50.

The first 50 presets are a variety of sounds that explore the prophet 6. They're designed to strike a balance between experimental and accessible. They're edgy, yet musical and fused onto familiar patch types that tend to work incredibly well on VCO synths. In other words, they'll be musical and expressive, as opposed to conceptual and useless.
The second half is relatively more organized, for your convenience. Expect to find 10 or so of each; Bass, Pads, Distortion/Leads, Arps. and classics. They're the ones I designed with the intention for you to use them as go-to starting points. They're purpose built to be ready for throwing down in a jam session, or new project/track. But they're made in a way that should allow easy tweaks without too much head scratching.

Inflences of this Patch Bank include the following artists:
Eric Prydz / Pryda *2005-2010 progressive house era*
Quincy Jones
Chemical Bros
Tycho / Ghostly Digital
The Rolling Stones
GrandMaster Flash & The Furious Five
Nine Inch Nails
Vangelis
Haywyre
Maceo Plex / CrossTown Rebels
DeadMau5
Knife Party
Crystal Method
Alice in Chains

(That'd be the most incredible and random lineup to have at a concert wouldn't it?)"

IGNITION 3 Early Progress / Playtesting

video upload by Major OSC

"noodling around on a few of the presets, some of which are in fully realized form, while others need work. playing em for a good length of time, especially with a backbeat, is always a good indicator of where they're at, how they feel to play, how they sound in a mix etc. Figured I'd post a few of these periodically.
MajorOSC.com will be converting to a new brand identity in the coming weeks. Aperture Sound Lab, a join venture between MajorOSC and AlphaCodeSynth, will serve as the new platform for all preset banks to be release on. All MajorOSC preset banks will continue to be made available once the new site is up, and all banks will be labeled and credited as such. Aperture Sound Lab marks a new beginning for both MajorOSC and AlphaCodeSynth, allowing both to combine their sound design talents at various points, while retaining full control of the individual sound design brands and styles."

Major OSC

"Free download at https://www.majorosc.com
3ForAll is a collection of 50 presets for the Sequential Pro 3, made of 3 primary patch types; Bass, Leads, and Sequences. Thanks to the powerful sequencer and multiple filters to choose from, MajorOSC put together a great collection of stylish bass, sequence, and lead presets, designed to inspire you, and exploit the powerful modulation capabilities of the pro 3. Due to MajorOSC's upcoming fall Schedule, a full bank wasn't looking like it was feasible. So while this bank only contains around half the count of a standard patch bank, it's free!! Sounds Good? ASM Hydrasynth 1.5 Update info and exploration Ken Flux Pierce Fluxwithit

Demo of a new sound set featuring the 1.5 update to be released today from MajorOSC:

"Because of the new features, MajorOSC was able to completely reapproach the design process for sequencing and expressive interaction while playing a sequence. The results speak for themselves on this short demo"

And the official press release:

Ashun Sound Machines makes major strides in advancing Hydrasynth sensation with Version 1.5 feature-heavy firmware update

LOS ANGELES, CA, USA/HONG KONG, CHINA: musician-empowering musical instruments creator Ashun Sound Machines (ASM) is proud to make major strides in advancing its innovative Hydrasynth digital wave morphing synthesizer — launched late last year to widespread critical acclaim as its inaugural hardware product, produced as a keyboard variant (featuring a proprietary PolytouchTM 49-note polyphonic aftertouch keybed and a user- assignable ribbon controller) and desktop variant (with 24 velocity- and polyphonic aftertouch-sensitive pads, plus an included 19-inch rack-mount kit) — with a feature-heavy firmware update, as of August 6…

New arrivals Ashun Sound Machines made a huge splash when diving deep into the synthesizer world with the introduction of its Hydrasynth sensation in both keyboard and desktop variants late last year. Ultimately, users appreciated an unprecedented combination of sound generation methods and processing power — anchored around a unique digital wave morphing synthesis engine as an eight-voice polysynth whose three oscillators can all make use of any one of the 219 single-cycle waveforms available, while flexibly facilitating defining eight waveforms into a list and then morphing from one to the next using extensive movement-inducing modulation sources with Wave Scan mode (for OSC 1 and OSC 2 only) — potently coupled with hardware that is perfectly tailored for live interaction and real-time tweaking, all at a very affordable price. Perhaps best of all, a new generation of synth users were introduced to an amazingly expressive way to shape individual notes, thanks to that proprietary PolytouchTM 49-note polyphonic aftertouch keybed and a user-assignable ribbon controller.

Today, the release of the Version 1.5 firmware update for the Hydrasynth brings an amazing array of new features and behaviours to an already sensational synthesizer, starting with advancing its unique-sounding synthesis engine several steps further forward. Firstly, five new filter models are available in FILTER 1 — namely, LP Stn12, ASM’s version of a popular 12dB low-pass filter; LP 1 Pole, a gentle 6dB low-pass filter; and LP 8 Pole, a steep 48dB low-pass filter; alongside BP Stn12, a popular 12dB band-pass filter with dual 6dB slopes; and HP Stn12, a popular 12dB high-pass filter — expanding its total to 16 filter models. Meanwhile, that Version 1.5 firmware update also adds a second multi-mode filter type to FILTER 2, with an ability to switch between LP/BP/HP (low-pass/band-pass/high-pass) or LP/NOTCH/HP (low-pass/notch/high-pass) filter modes. Thereafter, the Hydrasynth now benefits from microtonal scale support, opening up a brave new world of musical expression beyond the 12 tones most prevalent in Western music to allow composition and performances from any culture or harmonic discipline with 32 custom scales loadable using MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) Tuning Standard files. Furthermore, envelopes can now be triggered from as many as four sources, including LFOs (Low Frequency Oscillators), keyboard, ribbon, CV (Control Voltage) INPUTS, and PEDAL — EXPRESSION — input, whereas previously they were all triggered by the keyboard only. On top of that, the LFOs themselves have been upgraded to allow up to 64 steps when set to Step mode, with a new SemiLock feature to quantise those steps for pitch control of the oscillators.

MOD MATRIX improvements in the Version 1.5 firmware update makes creating modulation routings one step easier by allowing users to choose a specific parameter in a MODULE to be the modulation destination via direct selection, thereby creating a link between the source and destination in the fewest number of possible steps. Since the MOD MATRIX itself has been expanded to allow new modulation destinations with many more VOICE parameters and macros being added to the destinations, there are now many more sound design options available.

ASM has also updated the RANDOM page so users can set a percentage of how much randomisation takes place in each MODULE. Many more usable patches result from an added second patch randomisation option that generates a new patch by pulling in a random selection of values from other patches, which themselves are selected at random from every bank by combining various aspects of patches that are already known to be useful.

The PRE-FX and POST-FX modules both benefit from the addition of a new stereo Distortion effect, with controls for Drive, Tone, Asymmetry, and the Overdrive curve, as well as Output level.

LATCH mode moves things onwards and upwards, allowing users to press a key and have that key stay holding for as long as the LATCH button itself is enabled — ideal for ambient and generative patches.

System setup changes courtesy of the Version 1.5 firmware update include a Save System state, allowing users to boot up their Hydrasynth with a patch of choice; shorter timing options in Vegas mode; additional (Buchla®) 1.2V per octave support via the CV OUTPUTS; an option of selecting MIDI CC mode or NRPN (Non-Registered Parameter Number) modes, making automation in DAWs (Digital Audio Workstations) that do not support NRPNs possible, while that all-important user-assignable ribbon controller can now send NRPN or pitchbend data — all aiding ASM in making major strides in advancing its Hydrasynth sensation... dive deeper than ever before!

Hydrasynth Pad Tutorial Part 1: Basics + Reverb (New Owners This one's for YOU)

Major OSC

https://www.patreon.com/majorosc https://majorosc.com

"Part 1 of 2 on pad creation. This will encompass several things already mentioned in prior tutorials, except it will apply directly to pad creation. This is a great starting point if you're new to Hydrasynth. Those of you who are already familiar with Hydra might like a few of the small tips as well, because just a few changes to anyone's established "norm" can make a big difference. In other words, work outside of your comfort zone and you'll be surprised by how much you benefit from the roadblocks and challenges you'll inevitably encounter along the way. Part 2 will be a MUCH longer video and will go much deeper covering a wider array of styles. It will be exclusive to patreon members so if you're interested, don't miss out. Link up top.

The last 5 minutes of the video, I give you an update on what's been going on with MajorOSC, the studio, synths, etc. Spoiler alert. The Super 6 is no longer here. You'll be surprised to see what took it's place."

MajorOSC Unlimited - Hydrasynth - Section 2 - LFOs

Major OSC

All about LFO's. Plenty of useful info here. Some specific to Hydrasynth, and some that is universally applicable. There's ALOT of content here. Grab a drink. Fire up your Hydra. Class in Session.
- Those of you who notice the Level of LFO 2 - and kudos to you if you caught it! At 48:42 I catch the mistake and explain how it happened / how it was easily overlooked. Then I explain the relationship between the fixed AMP routing to LFO 2, The assignment from LFO 5 to LFO2's level, and how this will affect the feel and dynamics of the sequence. Glad it happened, because I think it elaborated on details that wouldn't have otherwise been covered.

Roland Jupiter X Press Release VHS - Restored from Archive?

Major OSC

"A Note from the MajorOSC: This is pure satire right down to the Zen Core. But for the record, I love my Jupiter X. This video is to show appreciation to all the Roland customers who've kept them in business, despite the strong opinions constantly voiced from the older customers of many years. Jupiter X would not have become a reality had it not been for those of you who purchased the V-Synth. Jupiter 80, Jupiter 60, Juno G, D E, etc. Thanks to Roland for finally making something that celebrates your past, while offering modern functionality. Also, this is quite possibly the most amazing keybed ever."

Super Synth Battle Bass Battle Extreme Edition !!!

Major OSC

"This is a segment within the 2 hour video special comparing the Novation Summit and UDO Super 6. The original intention was simply to make a feel-good jam session track to demonstrate how they can sound in production. In this example they switch off on bass duty and show off their strengths in their own additional layers. When I thought about a fun way to help visualize the new layers of each synth being added, I remembered some old music games from college, among many others. The result is this spectacle of retro-arcade visuals over feel-good synth riffs and melodies. Enjoy! Also be sure to check out the full video!

Update:

UDO Super6 VS Novation Summit 2 Hour Special Presentation

"What do two FPGA-based Hybrid polysynths have in common? A few important things, but not as much as you'd think. Fortunately the similarities they share are some of the most important things to consider when buying something in this price range. They both sound incredibly good - possibly even the best I've ever heard. They're both similar in price. Yet on paper, the specs appear to be stacked more to one side. This video will show you that specs don't matter when considering the end result; Music. In the end, they're both winners. In fact it was my intention to make the choice even harder if you're considering either of these.

The Summit and Super6 will be put through their paces with real world applications; Productions. Performance. No Science. There's no Oscilloscope, no measurements. Your understanding at the end of this will not come from clinical observation. It will come from listening. They sound different. Amazing, and different. For everyday stuff like leads and bass, they can sound similar for sure. But when you dive deep and exploit their strengths, this is where they will blow your mind. I hope to show you a little bit of both. Which of these fits your style, your taste? If both, start saving. They're worth it. In fact I think they might be the best sounding polysynths to come out in decades.

Leave a comment and share your thoughts. Keep it positive and speak from experience, and not from speculation."

Novation Summit Versus ASM Hydrasynth - In Depth Discussion and Walkthrough (See description)

Major OSC

"Important Correction of Information: The Summit uses DIGITAL Envelopes, and DIGITAL LFO's. The Filter as well as the distortion unit are Analog. My apologies for the incorrect information.

A Special Presentation from Major Oscillator:
1 Hour of discussion comparing the Novation Summit and ASM Hydrasynth. What an incredible duo of polyphonic synthesizer bliss!
Spoiler: There's no winner in the end. But if you own one, and are interested in the other, this video might give you some valuable insight. Also I compare these 2 synthesizers to women. At the very least it's some synth related entertainment to keep you smiling while we're all stuck indoors. Stay healthy and happy.
