Behringer Pro-800 Vintage Presets: Pads, Strings, Textures

video upload by Anton Anru

"'Vintage Atmospheres' is a collection of 50 patches for the analog synthesizer Behringer Pro-800. It includes 22 Pads, 17 Strings, 11 Textures that cover a wide range of tones: warm and soft, cold and distant, bright and dark, static and evolving...
The bank is devoted to vintage/retro/lo-fi sound: detuned, noisy, tape-style with flutter, wow, jitter...

📸 Get the soundset: https://antonanru.sellfy.store/p/pro-...

The presets are expressive: they are velocity-sensitive, aftertouch opens the filter, modwheel adds vibrato. They will enrich your tracks and live performances/jams.

The soundset is suitable for many genres: ambient, electronica, IDM, trip-hop, lounge, downtempo, funk, jazz, pop, chill out, new age, cinematic, trance, deep, progressive, techno, breaks, jungle, drum and bass, dub and others.

To load presets onto the device, please use the Synthtribe app, which is available on the official Behringer website."

Studio Electronics MIDI Mini

video upload by Mineral Sound

"Here's a short demo of the Studio Electronics MIDI Mini/Minimoog Model D I have listed for sale on Reverb. Some playing around with bass/lead sounds, going through the oscillator waveforms, and sweeping the filter to show how it sounds and performs. Using a Juno-106 as a MIDI controller, not included in sale!"

Pics of the inside below.

"this is one of the early versions with the original sound boards ripped out of a Minimoog Model D. Some might call it sacrilege, I call it a great way to get authentic, vintage tone in a 4U rack!

This unit is freshly returned from service at Rosen Sound in Burbank, CA. No oscillator drift, all pots, switches and functions in working order! But there's only so much I can describe in words; check out the demo video I made (above, after the pictures) to hear it in action. This thing is FAT. Floor-shaking basses, screaming leads, and saturated resonance; if you know you know, there's no substitute for the OG Moog sound.

The only functional issue I've found is that the VCO pots are a little scratchy, and the VCO 1 pot has a little trouble clicking into the rightmost waveform (PWM square). I spoke with the tech and since the pots are no longer manufactured, the only solution would be to machine new pots, which would likely cost more than the unit itself. But if that's the only issue for this 40-year-old beast I'd say it's doing pretty well!

Cosmetically the item is in great condition; the faceplate is more or less pristine, with only some very light rack wear on the mounting tabs. The top of the unit has some scratches and scuffs (see pictures),as it's a bit of a tight fit getting this into a rack (but of course those scuffs will be invisible once mounted). Back and sides are in perfect condition."

::vtol:: Ra

::vtol:: Ra from ::vtol:: on Vimeo.

"Ra is a sound object / synthesizer which uses laser for scanning the irregularities of the surface of the pyrite disc and further transforms this data to produce sound. Pyrite disc is a rare form of pyrite which is crystallised in radial shape (as unusual disc spherulites) which also was named ‘pyrite suns’ or ‘pyrite dollars’. The only deposit where pyrites of such morphology are found is in Illinois state (USA). Pyrite suns were formed around 300 million years ago.

"This project originated as a result of an interesting set of circumstances – a pyrite disc was given to me as a gift by a mineral seller in Boulder city (USA). Upon hearing about my works, she asked to do something with such crystal, and refused to take payment for getting it. In the same period, I was reading articles on various ways of archiving and preservation of sounds from the first, historical sources of the recorded sound – wax discs and other fragile carriers. All technologies were based on the usage of lasers. Inspired by these projects, I set out to create a self-made laser sound reader which would be able to produce sound from various uneven surfaces, using minimal resources to achive it. Thus emerged the idea to construct an instrument using the pyrite disc and a self-made laser sound reader.

The realisation of the object became possible thanks to the commission of the Sound Museum in St.-Petersburg which has it in its collection now.

I consider this object to be a landmark for me, as it united several practices and technical skills which I was working on in the last years - as well as the new resources and ideas which I approach for the first time. I.e. – creation of the synthesizers and sound objects, collecting minerals, topic of rotation, Pure Data programming, Arduino and Python, working with servo and stepper motors, raspberry pi and lasers, etc.

What is also important for me in this project is adressing the topic of occult futurology as a concept which corresponds in the best way my own artistic practices. In the first place, it can be seen in how Ra works with the perception of time – having pre-historic 'unearthly' mineral as its base, it adresses medieval times through the notion of alchemy; it also carries Bach organ motives, further bringing us to the echoes of the electronic instruments of middle of the 20th century, underlining all of this with lasers, code, noise and autonomy, all brought up in handicraft conditions."

Hataken Interview

Back on March 31, I put up a post on Hataken, a Japanese DJ artist who primarily uses analog synths. At the time, Shane Chisolm, the manager of Don Juan Dracula mentioned Hataken was working on a remix version of DJD's "Take Me Home". Shane asked me if I'd be interested in doing an interview with Hataken, and I thought why not. It would be interesting to hear his perspective on the world of synths as a live DJ artist. The following is the result of that interview. Note, this is a long one. You will want to use page down to scroll through. If it is too long for you, I recommend reading one or two questions each time you visit the site. Each DIY item below would typically have been a separate post. There is a lot of interesting stuff here. That said, I start with an introduction followed by asking Hataken how it all started for him. Note the focus is primarily on synths as this site is about everything synth, and Hataken delivers. The gear he has both worked with and designed to meet his specific needs is overwhelming. There's also an interesting interlude on experimenting with frequency counters to produce specific frequencies of sound known to have healing properties, and of course there is a bit of the age old discussion of digital and analog.

Before we start the interview, I want to thank Hataken for taking the time out for this, and I want to thank Shane for suggesting it. It's a fascinating history of a DJ synth artist with interesting perspectives that I'm sure I will come back to over time. Be sure to check out the video and link to more at the end. And of course be sure to check out Hataken's website.

1. Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
