Keytek CTS2000 - 1987 Cross Table Sample Synthesizer - custom presets with Enso Looper & Fac Alteza

video upload by VSMI - Vintage Synths Made in Italy

"Keytek CTS 2000 - 'Cross Table Sample Synthesizer' Made in Italy (1987) ex-Siel
play with Enso Looper and FAC Alteza reverb - feat. Godwin DrumMaker32.
'Keytek CTS 2000 use an advanced signal processing technique, Cross Table Sampling. Going beyond sampling, CTS starts with a digitally recorded signal and uses external digital signal processing to modify and compress the original sample. The data is then put into wave tables. Keytek CTS instruments can read from two tables, or cross tables. This gives you all the sounds in the wave tables plus all the sounds from combinations of wave tables. Post sample processing, combined with a powerful resynthesis method using cross tables, allows Keytek CTS instruments to store a complete library of sounds in the space normally required for one sample.'

'Features of the CTS-2000
61 key [C to C] Velocity sensitive keyboard
6 voice with 2 signal sources per voice
320 wavetables in ROM for instant recall
Analog signal processing on each voice, VCF and VCA each with a 7 stage envelope generator 8 data entry sliders and full alpha/numeric display for one of the most interactive, user friendly, editing systems found on a synthesizer
■'Polytimbric' up to 5 zones of 1 octave each
■ 48 user programmable presets in internal memory
External data cartridges
Full MIDI implementation, each zone completely assignable Stereo outputs, with 5 different panpots on every preset.

Keytek was started over 10 years ago by a group of engineers who believed the only way to succeed was to build high quality instruments. Since 1976, Keytek engineers have concen- trated on designs for real world musicians using sophisticated electronics to provide instruments that are reliable, serviceble and affordable.'

Fender has also released one on its side: The Chroma Polaris.

Story : Gibson had bought the Italian brand SIEL (Societa Industrie Elettroniche)
and worked in collaboration with its engineers who had already released
a lot of synthesizers including ( Cruise, Orchestra, Orchestra 2, Dk-70,
Ex-80, Dk-80 , Expander , Opera 6 , Dk-600 , Dk-700 , Kiwi ) and worked
themselves with suzuki and knew how to draw inspiration from analogs
from Korg .Moreover it would have been produced in Japan.

Gibson's synth, the Keytek CTS 2000 is a 330 plus wavetable based
synthesizer. But it is above all one of the last analog synths of this era. For
this it was equipped with Curtis chips, the same used in the little brother
of the Waldorf Wave, the Microwave .... as well as the Prophet 2000 which
is a Sequencial Audio / Dave Smith sampler ...

It has 6 voices with 2 oscillators per voice.
7 levels of envelope settings...
A Total MIDI Implementation....
An internal memory to save 48 sounds.
Finally its specialty of Cross Table Sample allows to mix for a sound of the
wavetables between them to obtain a combination of 330 X 329 so 9000 !

That is more than 9000 waveforms more than the sinusoid, the triangle,
the square, the sawtooth ! And this for a single voice ....
Each oscillator can be tuned differently for Fat sound .
An Lfo is also present to modulate these.
Dcf
Dca
Cut-off
Resonance
ADSR on 7 levels
All this in many combinations

One cannot simply overcome its possibilities.

It produces a unique sound. With it your instrumentations won't sound too much today.
He will add a personal color. It can produce percussive sounds, particular pads...

Another thing that differentiates the KEYTEK CTS 2000 is that very few copies
were produced in the world.
There are 2 other Keytek models but they are only weakly trimmed compared
to this one.

The model on sale was released in the very First GIBSON-SIEL workshops.

Number 279."

Keytek CTS 2000

Two sites sent my way via swissdoc:
cts2000.html
m_keytek_e.htm

"The Keytek line was an attempt at reviving Siel around 1987. There were several models produced, the CTS-1000 (boring 8 voice synth, preset only), CTS-2000, CTS-5000 (piano-style keyboard), CTS-400 (4-octave keyboard, similar to CTS-1000?), and at several home keyboards (I know of the K-50 and K-60, perhaps there were more). As far as I can tell, the CTS-2000 is the only interesting model. The Keytek line didn't last long, as Siel went out of business and was bought by Roland. It's a fairly ugly synth, Obviously influenced by the DX7 design with membrane buttons and nasty 80's colors accenting its gray case. And it's fairly heavy considering the case is plastic."

The Keytek CTS2000

Title link takes you to more including samples on DVDBorn.
"It's a wavetable synth with 2 oscillators/voice, 8 voices and analogue CEM 3389 filters, the same as in the Waldorf Microwave I. Each digital oscillator can read up to three wave tables at a time."
