comes with 230 Volt to 12 Volt DC adapter, light, stand & mini patch cables and a aluminium case for safe transport to the next Gig .

A self-contained, analog modular synthesizer from Germany, made by Anyware Instruments:

Their aim was to be as small as possible, while also offering a lot of features and of course having a great sound. They were fully modular without any internal routings, so connections had to be made with the patch wires in order to make a sound. unfortunately discontinued and therefore VERY RARE !

The housing was made of metal with super sturdy, panel-mounted potentiometers. The synth came with a monitor stand to prop it up at an angle and a BNC gooseneck lamp, which could be attached to shine some light for patching. Patch leads came from Conrad and the patch sockets were the kind you'd find on floppy disk drive cables. Surprisingly, even after years of patching, I still haven't worn out any sockets."

"Rare unit that sounds huge in the low end, super versatile, and has some truly special fx characteristics. Patching is so quick and an absolute joy. The entire time I’ve had it, I’ve taken it mobile and powered it with a portable charging brick.

Synth Rorschach #60: The Outer Limits

This Synth Rorschach in via Atomic Shadow.

"Is It A Synth? No. It's from the first episode of The Outer Limits which aired in September, 1963. The Galaxy Being starred Cliff Robertson as a radio station owner who used his transmitter to reach out across the galaxy. After establishing contact with a being from another world, a series of events (brought about by his carping wife) leads to the physical transmission of the Galaxy Being to Earth. A heavy handed moral about the human race being prone to violence ensues.

The episode has some great examples of mid 20th century Gizmology. Gizmology is term that I coined to describe movie tech that is designed to look all "Science-y". If you look at the photo, you see what appears to be a Eurorack synth! Just out of the frame, on the right, there is the obligatory reel to reel tape recorder. In those days if you wanted your set to look like real science, you had to have an oscilloscope displaying a sine wave and a tape recorder. This episode lacks a scope, but makes up for it with that crazy nest of wires.

I started watching that episode on Prime the other night. When that scene happened I thought, 'How did Cliff Robertson get his hands on Richard Divine's euro rig? In 1963!'."


Bottom reminds me of Dewanatron meets Folktek. Top right reminds me of Anyware's Tinysizer.

NAMM Leaks: New KORG Volca Modular & Volca Drum

And the first NAMM 2019 rumor is in. A new KORG Volca Modular "Micro Modular Synthesizer" & Volca Drum "Digital Percussion Synthesizer". Click the pics to explore. Note the mini patch points (ala Tinysizer) on the Volca Modular, and the display on the Volca Drum.

The Volca Modular appears to be a "West Coast" approach with a Woggle modulation source and 2 LPGs or Lowpass Gates.  An LPG is essentially the Buchla version of a Lowpass Filter.  There also appears to be some oscillator wave folding on the left.  Man, this is going to sell like hotcakes.  I want one now.   Digital drums on the Volca Drum with modulation does look interesting as well.

"Serial number is #53. Look around online if you are curious about what this bad boy can do. Owned for about 2 years, had a lot of fun and made plenty of music with it. Lived in my studio the whole time except for one live set. Time to let someone else live the tiny dream.

There is one issue with this one that I never got around to fixing. The potentiometer for “Audio In 1” on the VCF has gone bad. Still receives input and gives output signal, but doesn’t attenuate it - just does on or off for the input. Should be an easy fix for a technician or experienced electronics enthusiast. Never got in the way of me using it though."
