Q210 Complex Noise Launch Party Recording
video upload by synthesizersdotcom
"👉The Q210 Complex Noise is noisemaker's playground. Though capable of standard white noise fare, the Q210 can help provide you with decidedly boundary pushing timbres, not usually found in your typical 5U module.
Beyond noise, the Q210 is also comfortable generating random gates, which when routed to VCAS or drum sounds, can help launch your next ambient composition into science fiction territory.
Depending on how you approach the module, the Q210 can be a tame texture ready to mix in with a completed track. However if you push it, the Q210 can become the basis of an entire soundscape, especially when paired with filters, VCAS, and envelopes. Sounds both dramatic and explosive are quite easy to conjure."

Ring Mod & Folding is a KILLER combo // FIRST PATCH with Modrwy from Dwyfor Tech
video upload by DivKid
"I've always really liked the combination of ring modulation & wavefodling. So I was happy to get the chance to try out Modrwy from Dwyfor Tech. Dan at Dwyfor Tech continues to develop from interesting rare circuit designs and unique twists on creating design combinations and ideas that do things a bit differently. Modrwy combines a ring modulator with a softer, 2 stage (I believe) wave folder that allows you to take two inputs and create something interesting from them. In this case a pair of oscillators. Full patch notes are documented exclusively on / divkid

AMYboard - the $29 DIY modular synth running Python.
video upload by Brian Whitman
via Brian Whitman of AMYboard
"Today, we’re launching a new music hardware platform! Meet the AMYboard, a 10HP modular-sized synthesizer brimming with inputs and outputs for digital and analog audio, MIDI, and two CV channels.
The AMYboard firmware runs Micropython, and can be controlled and programmed over the web, where you can share your own creations with others. You can also use AMYboard in Arduino to create music devices of your own design. It’s only US$29.90 - a very inexpensive way to get started making your own modular-capable synths. It can be powered over USB or a 10-pin modular power cable, and comes with a 10HP laser-cut faceplate. You can buy one today!
AMYboard is powered by AMY, the synthesis and effects toolkit that DAn Ellis and I have been working on for the past few years. AMY is a beautiful-sounding, efficient re-creation of classic analog synths – like the Juno-6 – and FM synths – like the DX-7. It can also act as a sampler, play WAV files, or let you make your own synthesizer setups in code from bare oscillators, effects, and filters. AMY is open-source and runs on all sorts of hardware. It already powers some neat synths like the Diapasonix, the Spark, and our own Tulip Creative Computer. AMYboard is our “reference hardware” for AMY - running the same ESP32-S3 as Tulip with 8MB of RAM, but with new features including both analog and S/PDIF (digital) audio input and output, enabling live effects, sampling, and filters. We’ve also added an SD card for sample storage, and an I2C host port for connecting your own displays and knobs!"
AMYboard launches with AMYboard online – a web based simulator and control surface for the AMYboard. You can experience AMYboard online before even buying an AMYboard. AMYboard online runs the same core engine as the AMYboard hardware (ported to WebAssembly) so you can set up and interact with the synthesizer over the web. When you’re ready, you plug in your AMYboard, download your patch, or control it in real time over the web, including the capability to edit and store code on your hardware that will boot up the next time you turn it on. AMYboard’s default firmware allows anyone to code their synth creations in MicroPython running on the hardware; the AMY synthesis engine itself runs in bare-metal C, but you can load your own “sketches” onto the board to build complex environments. For example, here’s a generative house track with a Derrick May custom “WOODPIANO” FM patch. Or here’s a TB303 + 808 acid setup. Or add a filter and reverb to a DX7 patch. AMYboard online also comes with AMYboard World, an online community for AMYboard users to share sketches with each other. We’re really excited to see your cool creations, please do share them!

They Replaced Steely Dan's Drummers With a $150,000 Computer
video upload by Nick Cesarz
Also see: RIP Roger Nichols - Creator of the Wendel Sampling Computer
"In 1980, Steely Dan put out Gaucho with Steve Gadd, Jeff Porcaro, Rick Marotta, and Bernard Purdie credited on drums. Four of the most recorded session drummers in history.
But three of the seven songs on that record weren't actually played by any of them. They were played by a $150,000 custom-built computer called the Wendel, programmed by their engineer Roger Nichols in hexadecimal code.
I grew up listening to this album and had no idea half the drums weren't real, so I went down the rabbit hole. Here's why Steely Dan built it, how it actually worked, and which Gaucho tracks are the Wendel vs. the real drummers.

Inside the 505 String Machine with Dan Chmielinski & Troels Folmann
video upload by Soundpaint
"Get the 505 String Machine here: https://soundpaint.com/products/505-e...
Go inside the making of one of the most iconic string machines ever captured.
Troels Folmann and Dan “Chimy” Chmielinski break down the process behind 505 String Machine, from obsessive ultra-deep sampling to preserving the raw character of the legendary Roland RS-505 String Machine. This is more than a recreation. It is a deep dive into the philosophy, detail, and decisions that bring a classic instrument back to life.
Used by artists like Vangelis, The Police, Depeche Mode, The Cure, New Order, Jean-Michel Jarre, and Herbie Hancock, the RS-505 helped define the sound of an era. Often living in the shadow of the Yamaha CS-80 synthesizer, it was the evolving texture underneath. The movement, the depth, the feeling."

Synthesizers.com is Back with Dan Snazelle of Snazzy FX
via Synthesizers.com
WE'RE BACK!
We are thrilled to announce that Synthesizers.com is returning to full operation — under new management and with a renewed commitment to excellence in all things 5U/MU!
Thank you for your patience as we finished our big transition: relocating the company from Texas to our new home in the Boston area, rebuilding production lines, organizing inventory, and preparing to craft the same world-class instruments you’ve always known us for.
We’re reaffirming our dedication to founder Roger Arrick’s vision while entering a new era for Synthesizers.com. Our path forward is guided by three core commitments:
Commitment One
We will continue to hand-build the highest-quality modular synthesizer instruments here in the USA — crafted with care, precision, and in the spirit of the modular community that has supported us for decades, designed and built for musicians, artists, engineers, performers and hobbyists around the world.
Commitment Two
We will honor the legacy of our existing modules while exploring the boundaries of what’s next. A few legacy modules will retire, and in their place we will design and introduce an exciting new generation of analog and digital modules to expand the Synthesizers.com catalog.
Commitment Three
We will remain dedicated champions for the entire 5U/MU community. That means expanding options for 5U/MU cases, power systems, and accessories — and actively supporting the broader ecosystem of 5U makers, builders, and designers who continue to grow this format.
In the coming weeks, you’ll see updated inventories, new product announcements, and a stronger customer-service focus. Under the leadership of Dan Snazelle of SnazzyFX fame, our team is here for you — by phone, email, social channels, or on the ModWiggler Synthesizers.com forum.
Here are a few words from Dan about the Synthesizers.com journey.
"As someone who has spent the last 30 years involved with synthesizers I am extremely excited to be stepping into the role of leading Synthesizers.com. We have put together a great team so we can continue the tradition of making synthesizers by hand, while also working to bring new modules to our customers. I can't wait to meet people who own our systems and I am also going to be putting a lot of thought into bringing new musicians to large format synthesis" Thank you for welcoming us back. We can’t wait to show you what’s coming.
