Crumar BIT ONE Vintage Synth

via this auction
"This is a rare Italian synth. There were 2 production runs of the Bit ONE, the early models used identical filters as the Prophet 5 (SSM2044), and this is one of those models. Sounds much better than the later CEM chip models. The serial number is #00027 so it was one of the first few made. Not only does this use the Prophet 5 filters but every other model of Crumar synth past this one (which includes all rack versions, etc) all use CEM chips, so this is definitely the one you want."

Sold For: US$207.50

M-Z3R0 - circuit bent - casio SA-20

YouTube via manufacturedZ3R0
"Modified to wherever and back with filter, distortion, two to eight step arpeggiator/sequencer which can be set up to act as a cool LFO, not sustain on two octaves, pitch control, delay circuit with rate, feedback level and feedback filter, deep crash with crash calibration and a video line out.

It's hard to demo all the things these can do in ten minutes but hopefully this vid shows it's sweet and nasty sides in good measures. The mods give this digital machine a very cool 'organic' kind of feel. Great for all sorts of sounds. From chilled and melodic to all out harsh noise."

Optigan Call for Music Concrete

via Optigan.com

"In December 2010 we plan to release an experimental Optigan disc called “Musique Concrète,” which will essentially be a collage of 57 sound loops in the tradition of early electronic studio tape music. We’re completely disregarding the Optigan paradigm of chords and keys, and simply assigning a different abstract sound loop to each chord button and key. We thought that the most interesting approach for this disc would be to invite Optigoners everywhere to submit sound loops of their own making (please, no samples from commercial or copyrighted sources), from which we’ll choose the best for inclusion on the disc." "With a drill and a soldering iron, circuit bender Casper Electronics manages to make a toy megaphone sound even weirder. For much more go to scionav.com/lifestyle/scionmagazine."

The Akai iPK25 Still Lives?

It's listed for $99 on the Nova Musik website here. No release date listed, but according to Chris in the comments of this post, Guitar Center and Musician's Friend have the release date listed as March 3rd. Still nothing on the Akai site.

Update: I heard from Akai. It is still on track, same price and release date. The name has officially changed to the SynthStation25. The info page was removed at Apple's request.

"The Akai iPK25...now renamed SynthStation25 does in fact live. When developing hardware for Apple ipod products, Apple has a large number of hoops for developers to jump through. There was one hoop we missed so Apple made us take down the information from our web page. We are now working our way through this issue and it will be back up on the web page when we are allowed to put it back there. This has not affected shipping dates or anything, just our ability to have info regarding it up on our web page."

"Week 4's song in my project to write one song each week for the year 2010.
This week once again thinking of the electronic music of the 70's and 80's that inspires me.
But once again at 120 BPM with a solid beat"
