Roland DDR-30 Digital Drums Module Demo

YouTube via zibbybone | June 30, 2010 | 2:28

"Quick demo of an often forgotten Roland digital drum module. With nice & crunchy (I'm guessing 12 bit) PCM samples, Roland entered the electronic drum market with the DDR30. While limited with only kick, snare and 4 toms, the DDR-30 offers several sound samples for each drum (including acoustic, Simmons-style electronic and timpanis) and many options for tailoring the sounds to your needs with pitch, amp envelope & EQ. It can also serve as a pad-to-MIDI converter for triggering other MIDI instrumennts.
In this demo, I go through the 32 drum kits that were stored in this module (not sure if they're factory kits or not) while being triggered by a rhythm pattern on my Roland Fantom X6. It might be hard to hear on your crap-top speakers, but this module really kicks. I think Infomation Society used one on their eponymous album - I'd have to check my copy of the CD+G that has their equipment list."

OTO Machines Biscuit demo with Korg R3

duncanperson | June 27, 2010 | 5:23

"I demo of some of the sounds the biscuit is capable of making or modifying. The R3 is the sound source in this video - it is producing a very, very basic patch - 1 saw oscillator, amp. no envelopes, no filter, nothing like that. Basically, this little box is amazing, every thing about is brilliant. The filter (especially high pass) sounds particularity good in my opinion.

Sorry about the terrible video quality, but I made up for it with good audio :D"

Dave Smith Instruments Evolver: Agressive demo

YouTube via duncanperson | October 24, 2009 | 2:40

"I was reading on the VSE forums that the best thing about the dave smith instruments Evolver was the digital waveforms, feedback, distortion, delays, output hack, etc. I had always thought it was an aggressive little synth for a few reasons.... anyway, I just had a go at making the synth sound as mean as possible. The evolver track was recorded in one take and has had no external effects added at all. all the synth sounds come from inside the evolver's box. The drums are just a bunch of 909, 808 and linndrum samples I had, the high hats and one clap have had their bit rate reduces in Ableton live."

DSI Evoler Glitch Drums

duncanperson | November 30, 2009 | 6:02

"Demo and Song sketch (in the second half). Anyway, I wanted to make some circuit bend style drum sounds so I turned to the Digital oscillators on the DSI evolver, put some crazy fm and ring mod on them and I was good to go. Most of the sounds have been slightly processed with filters and pitch shifting, but nothing that drastic. I also put an envelope routed to the pitch on the last sound. Normally I would just put a bit crusher on each drum sounds but I like experimenting!

The songs sketch was just to use the drum patterns in some way, bass is the evolver... 2 analogue hyper detuned square waves and some HP filter from Live. and the KP3 and R3 are midi controlling Live.

Thanks for watching - please rate and comment if you like! :D"

"This track started out life as a bit of messing around with a sh101 sequence. The sequence in the sh101 is triggered by LT trigger out from my tr606 with a bit of live building and the such. The sequence is then f...ed with by taking the Ht trigger out from my tr606 and running it through a Digitana Micro Punk Robot and sending the output of that into the CV in to the sh101. I later added drums and FX to the sequence.

Enjoy"
