Xenon on iPad - "Space Break" demo

YouTube via ArtemiyPavlov | September 25, 2010

"First demo that I did with the awesome Xenon groovebox on my iPad. I especially love how the synths sound in this one, they're surprisingly good! Highly recommend this app (it also runs on iPod touch and iPhone)."

Teenage Engineering OP-1 Nearing Completion - Price Announced

Via Teenage Engineering:

"Op-1 Newsletter, Sept 25, 2010

Thank you for signing up for OP-1 news.
This Newsletter is about the OP-1 portable synthesizer from Teenage Engineering.

Project status

When it comes to functionality, 90% percent is completed and working.
Some parts of the system is still being fine tuned and optimized. Overall we are extremely happy with what we have.
The OP-1 will be shipped with 6 synthesizer engines and 2 sampler types. Pulse was shown at the NAMM show, the other synthesizer
engines are DrWave, FM, Phase, String, Digital, Cluster. Further it will include 8 effects, 3 LFO types and 3 original sequencers.
The Mixer section has a dedicated EQ and Drive as well as Master Balance and an additional Master Effect slot.
The Sequencers can be matched to the tape speed with a feature called Beat Match.
The Tape also have additional ONE-KEY features added that will be revealed at launch.

Beta test

The beta test is approaching. The beta sign up has been closed for quite some time. So wait and see if you are one of those we invite to participate.
When the beta machines will be released those invited have the option to buy a machine, get all updates and be credited in the manual.
Unfortunately we cannot give beta machines away for free or reduce the price.
We are very excited about this final phase when the feature set will be locked down and to get feedback from fresh eyes and ears.

Hardware

We just received the golden sample for the keyboard module / plastic parts from the factory. And we are very satisfied with the look and feel of it.
The complexity level of the OP-1's electronics makes component sourcing a bit tricky. As soon as we get the missing chips we will go into production with the first beta batch.
Shortly after, the first full production run will be started. So keep your fingers crossed that all this works out.

Feedback

We have got a lot of mails lately regarding the shipping date and the final price of the OP-1.
So we felt it's time for us to provide you with some details:

Estimated street price: $799 / Euro 799 (includes EC-VAT)
Estimated release date: TBA (Depending on the last components to arrive)

Where to buy the OP-1

Initially the OP-1 will be sold exclusively in the TE store (store.teenageengineering.com)

Note! Come visit us at the 2011 NAMM Show in Los Angeles."

Zebranalogic Envelope filter and More

YouTube via zebranalogiczetangas | September 24, 2010

"The micro envelope filter is a unit that can be used with a guitar, bass or keyboard.
It has the two following controls: Sens and Range

Sens: determines the input level signal of your instrument. The input already includes an internal gain that allows your guitar to respond easily to the filter.
Range: this control determines the frequency level with a range of lows and high."

The oscillator IV

zebranalogiczetangas | September 25, 2010

"This Synthesizer comes with the same components as the Oscillator III, but with an added Midi (in/thru). The Midi control has been modified to reach greater range of control surfaces and a Midi thru port has been added, the only channel 1 used is to detect the on and off note. This Synthesizer comes with 4 analogue effects, such as Fuzz, Phase, Envelope Filter and Tremolo, which works as a Vca controlled by a LFO.
The mixer is a 5-channel one. Monoural Output 1/4. This unit comes with a 110ac - 220ac Adaptor. The Lfo control has been modified for better control and some details on the Vco have been perfected to create more aleatory sounds. The Noise White has been modified with more gain.
Case made of transparent Plexi-glass."

Biscuiting the DRM1

YouTube via duncanperson | September 25, 2010

"Vermona DRM mk3, featuring the OTO Machines Biscuit. Pitch shifting/sample rate reduction/bit crushing

The Kick drum is going through the right channel on the biscuit to avoid pumping the sound too much and to avoid being pitch shifted - the pitch shifter only works in mono on the left input. Midi control from ableton live 8 is controlling the interval of the pitch on the biscuit."

8 bit pitch shifting on Vermona DRM1

duncanperson | September 25, 2010

"Vermona DRM mk3, featuring the OTO Machines Biscuit. The biscuit is primarily receiving midi CC and note data for the filter and the pitch shifter. The pitch shifting is done over intervals of 3rds, 5ths and octaves. I have not seen any other videos featuring midi control over the biscuit which is one reason for this video - Every parameter is midi controllable!!!!

The individual out of the MULTI chanell is going through the biscuit, the rest of the drums are unaffected."

"A fast scan rate, hand-built velocity switches and advanced key-mechanics enables a level of velocity sensing unheard of on a multi-button MIDI controller until now. Choices of wieght and velocity setting extend to instant loudest and quietest notes, tracking the way you play.

Sorry about the speaker hum. By 4.00am it's easy to forget things and mess up levels while recording from a speaker with a mic in front, covered with a tea towel, plugged into a camcorder - it is for me, anyway!"

Hidden Animals.wmv

notepool2 | September 25, 2010

"Why 'Hidden Animals'? When I played back the footage, I noticed that the cat on the T-shirt I was wearing was leaping forwards as I leaned forward to start to play - purely acciddental!

This is an Opal Chameleon connected to a Roland VK-8M mondule, for my experiments with rhythm patterns and riffs in preparation for playing rock keyboard parts in my next band (when I get to build an Opal I can keep!)

I also took the opportunity to address forum writers who, new to the note layout, noticed that the 4th interval is not one of the keys adjacent to the tonic (of whichever key you're playing in). As with a conventional keyboard, you would normally play inversions while switching chords anyway, so it helps that on the sonome, the 4th minus an octave IS one of the keys adjacent to the tonic. Its location right under the tonic makes an inverted 4th with some bottom end eady and intuitive. Of you can invert the tonic and alternate fast with a root-position 4th.

I've tried to show all of this in the video, using my version of Spencer Davis 'Gimmie Some Lovin' as an example. I hope it helps new sonome users find ways to navigate fluently."
