Santa came early...

via Brian Kehew:

"Just got this in... very excited. I had seen and played the prototype, but it's even nicer on the final released version. Cyril Lance had mentioned they went for an "upgrade" on the wood - and it is much nicer quality than my old Voyager. It looks a lot more like the wood on early Minimoogs from the 70-72 era, which I think were the most attractive ones.

Looking forward to putting it through it's paces soon... "

Gils Gieskes DEP-1 + Hohner Pianet T

Gils Gieskes DEP-1 + Hohner Pianet T from Tom Whitwell on Vimeo.

"Quick demo of Gils Gieskes DEP-1 extra lo-fi digital effects kit - built around a microcontroller chip with just 2k of memory. Does looping, delay, pitch shifting, arpeggiating. All super gritty and chaotic.
Sound source is the Hohner Pianet electric piano.
DEP then goes into a Line6 Pod with a clean, bright amp model - sounds a bit warmer / more powerful than the DI from the DEP-1.
Doesn't really come across in this clip, but this is a box of fun!

Audio Damage Phosphor

"What it is: a two-oscillator 16-voice polysynth loosely based upon the topology of the alphaSyntauri additive synthesis add-on for the Apple ][+ and //e. We've added some modern features like the delays and mod routing, mono modes, and a "clean" setting for the sine waves and noise, in order to extend the capabilities of the synth past its original limits. But this plug is mainly designed for recreating the alphaSyntauri, and at that, it excels."

Vintage Sound Systems - AlphaSyntauri

YouTube via PineHillAstro | September 06, 2010 |
"The Alpha Syntauri was the flagship digital synthesizer produced by the Syntauri corporation in 1980. This short clip gives an overview of a unit I originally purchased in 1982, serial #A003184. The synthesis hardware engine is provided by the Mountain Computer synthesizer board set that mounted into bus slots within the Apple II. They supported 8 channels of 8-bit stereo audio. AlphaPlus is Syntauri's software application demonstrated here."

"Bob's Creations Allowed Me to Explore Sound" --Kenn Florell

"Kenn Florell has been inspired by the work of the Bob Moog Foundation since its inception. He has donated every year to help make our projects a reality.

'I deeply believe that the magic of Bob Moog 's legacy needs to be continually lifted and passed to a new generation. Bob's legacy changed my life and I know that it can continue to inspire generations to come...' -- Ken Florell.

You can read Kenn's story of early inspiration here.

Because of donors like Kenn and people like you, people who appreciate the value of the creativity that Bob Moog made possible, we have made great strides in our important work. The Bob Moog Foundation is growing and we encourage you to be a part of our momentum.

Click here to support our educational work through MoogLab and our Bob Moog Archive Initiative. We are developing a curriculum to teach children science through music, preserving Bob's historic archives in preparation for traveling exhibits, and planning for an eventual Moogseum.

There are lots of ways you can be part of the tremendous momentum we've created in 2010 with people like Kenn, people who believe in the power of igniting creativity at the intersection of music, science, history and innovation. In addition to a donation, you can also support our work by purchasing great Moog-inspired gifts from our on line store.

Many thanks for being part of our momentum!

Warmly,
Michelle

"If you're looking at this, you probably know what it is and how rare they are (correct me if I'm wrong but I think only about 800 were made). For those of you who don't: it's a boutique analog (NOT virtual analog), vaguely minimoogish synthesizer, handmade in (or after) 2001, based on 1970s technology (except for the integrated Kenton 'Pro-Solo' MIDI-to-CV converter and LFO generator).

The manufacturer is Macbeth Studio Systems, basically a one-man ("Ken MacBeth") operation based out of Scotland.

Here's the manufacturer's website and myspace page:
