Oberheim Matrix 6 Editing

Published on Jan 6, 2013 AudioCentralMagazine·107 videos

"A frightening programming session on the nightmarish data entry of Oberheim Matrix 6. It seems an eternity, but in the Eighties this was the most common way to program the less expensive synthesizers: one parameter at time, first select then entering desired values!!!
God bless potentiometers and encoders (and Editor programs...)."

In my opinion it's not that bad actually. Everything is laid out in order, the first 10 parameters is DCO1, the next 10, DCO2, the next 10, VCF/VCA, and so on. There are no submenus. Everything is only one layer deep. You can see a pic of the parameters on the 6R in this current MATRIXSYNTH-B post. See the Patch Edit section in the bottom. You can also flip through parameters vs. having to enter the number for each. Sadly their is no slider for editing values like some other menu driven synths, so you have to button up, down or enter the value you want. Nothing beats knobs. On OS version 2.13 of the Matrix-6 you can map external MIDI controllers to each parameter. Access made a Matrix Programmer and you should be able to use other controllers that support MIDI Sysex including some for the iPad.

Synthy jazz multitracking

"Happy new year folks, this is a liitle song I started in the kitchen dropping some chords, melodies and jazz percussion into the ESQ sequencer then playing along with various parts (clumsily), trying to come up with a song. Levels are off the wall, especially the elec piano at high notes apologies! I really liked the chord sequence, kind of happy/summery sounding . The drums are from the juno G, also the E.piano , i'm playing the juno 6 lead and the rest is from the esq itself. I tried using the Roland vp330 vst but its so heavy on the CPU I had to record directly to cassette as ableton just couldn't handle such a powerful sound;)....erm no the vst is just not perfect but I dont mind, having the sound of the vp330 is good enough for me! Funny, i enjoyed recording to tape for a change..oh the memories:):)"

iPad Music Jam: Korg iMS-20, Magellan, GarageBand, Geo Synthesizer, iRIg MIDI and Moog Slim Phatty

Published on Jan 5, 2013 Marcus Padrini·140 videos

"iPad Music Apps are improving fast. Now you can do almost everything using only one device. In this Jam I'm playing with Geo Synthesizer controlling iMS-20 (Lead) and Magellan (Synth Bass and ARP). The arp was programed in Magellan but played by Moog Slim Phatty (using the iRig MIDI interface). Drums by GarageBand.

MIDI Bridge was used for splitting notes played with geo synth for Magellan and iMS-20.

Bateria no GarageBand.

O MIDI Bridge foi utilizado para dividir as notas tocadas com o Geo Synth para o Magellan e iMS-20.

AE FOND KISS by Robert Burns

Published on Jan 5, 2013 copperleaves·57 videos

"I have known this song for many years, but I had always heard it sung by classically trained sopranos and tenors, so I never dared to sing it. A couple of weeks ago, I heard a rendition of it performed here on YT by Scottish popular singer Eddi Reader, and I loved it! So I decided to take a crack at it myself.

Robert Burns is Scotland's poet/ambassador to the world, and this song (only one of many that he wrote) is for me one of the most poignant songs of unrequited love that has ever been written. I'm not going to bore everyone with the history of this song. If you are curious about it, here is the Wikipedia entry that will tell you the whole story.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ae_Fond_Kiss

The instrument I am playing in this video I call the "tibicen" (this is the Latin word for "piper"). I devised this instrument myself because I love to sing with the pipes but it is impossible to play them and sing at the same time. The tibicen is entirely electronic and consists of two parts (only one of which can be seen in this video). There is a keyboard "chanter" which sits on the knees of the performer and can play in any key over a range of many octaves. The other part is a pedal board similar to an organ (which is not visible in the video) which plays the drones, and can change keys and harmonies very much like the Irish uilleann pipes.

Part of the problem with pipes (and with the hurdy gurdy which I also play) is that they are extremely loud and their volume cannot be controlled by the player so they tend to drown out a singer. With the tibicen, every aspect of the sound, volume, slides, range, etc., can be controlled, and it is ideal for an electronic musician like myself."
