TWEAKERS Interview / Black Zenith

TWEAKERS Interview / Black Zenith from TWEAKERS on Vimeo.

"Welcome to TWEAKERS! We had a chance to do little interview with Singapore based duo Black Zenith who've visited Bangkok for the 2nd time for live performance and also lecture at university, talked about their approach of using modular synthesizers and showing us their patches for live improvisation.

Black Zenith is Darren Moore & Brian O’Reilly. The duo performs using analog modular synthesizers & moving images. They produce dense sonic textures that generate live visuals through the transformation of audio signals into images. Black Zenith draws as much influence from noise music & the electroacoustic music tradition as they do from the foundations of abstract video art.

"New panels are in. Crazy or plain. Something for everyone."

Quick test video here. Looks like the Facebook video embed code disappeared on me again.

New Corsynth C104 Odyssey of Sound VCO Details

If you've been following the site you no doubt have seen and heard the Corsynth C104 VCO demos going up.  The following details are just in.  You'll also find the full playlist of demos below.

"The C104 Odyssey of Sound VCO is a voltage controlled oscillator based in the discrete core of the ARP VCOs ( 2600, Odyssey… ).

The oscillator has four waveforms available simultaneously ( sine, triangle, saw and square with variable pulse width ). The square wave pulse width goes from 10% to 90% and can be over-modulated. This feature makes possible to created sounds that are not possible in other VCOs.

In addition to the VCO, the module includes a Ring Modulator ( CMOS ) and a Diode Soft Clipping circuit that can be voltage controlled. The RM and the DSC have independent outputs.

VCO

Wide frequency range from 5Hz to 30KHz.
Perfect tracking over at least 8 octaves.
Coarse and fine frequency controls.
+/- one octave switch.
Temperature compensated.
Four waveforms available simultaneously : Sine, triangle, saw, square.
Square wave pulse width 10%-90% allowing overmodulation.
Hard sync input.
Two 1V/Octv inputs.
One exponential modulation input with level control.

Ring Modulator ( RM )

CMOS based.
Independent ouput.
VCO Square wave is internally connected to the Ring Modulator.
Diode Soft Clipping ( DSC )

Soft clipping level control.
Soft clipping level can be voltage controlled.
Independent output.
Two waveforms available, ( triangle and saw ) selectable by switch"

Stereo ambient Modular/Eurorack Noise making by Introvert

"I just got my Zoom Q3 HD in the mail so I can make better quality videos for you guys and gals out there. So I figured I would test it out on this modular piece I'm working on. The audio in seems to be really great, but the video quality seems to be a little lacking. I just ran the audio directly into the stereo line in out of my mixer."

"I got tired of standing in front of my modular so i made a patch with choices controlling a bunch of stuff then put a note on the modular that said 'Play with the joystick eh' and left. Found this pic on facebook this morning."

Oakley HVM Human Voice Module

via Oakley Sound where you'll find the complete details.

"The Oakley Sound HVM is an electronic audio signal modification device that attempts to replicate some of the sounds from two classic keyboards first seen and heard in 1979. The module consists of three sections, two band pass filter networks and one parametric equaliser. It is possible to use each section independently if built that way but the suggested panel design has them wired together so as to allow maximum flexibility with the smallest number of front panel controls.

The design of the bandpass filter network takes its inspiration from the beautiful haunting sounds of the Lambda's chorus ensemble and the VP-330's human voice presets. In the suggested panel design of the HVM these are labelled Chorus and Vox respectively. A simple toggle switch on the panel allows the user to switch between the two modes..."

Lyrics via the khoral blog:

In the clockwork city they all look the same
Everybody’s working and nobody knows your name
In the clockwork city they all look the same
Everybody’s working and nobody knows your name

In the clockwork city there’s no hope in vain
The heart of the wise in the house of mourning
In the clockwork city there’s no hope in vain
Everybody’s working and nobody knows your name

It’s a room full of toys and nothing’s for real
It’s a desolate place you can never leave
In the clockwork city you’ve nothing left to hide
In the clockwork city where things never die

In the clockwork city you know the game is fixed
How much you lose and how small you gain
All summer long I’ve been wasting my sorrow
All summer long broken and forlorn
