Published on Apr 11, 2013 Derek See

"Made in L.A in 1979; kinda theremin, kinda magical musical thing..."

I believe this is the first video of the Sonica posted on the site.  It's much smaller than I expected!  I've posted a ton of these and I don't think I ever realized just how small it is.

"Super cool primitive synth, made in Los Angeles by Frank Eventoff in 1979. This one is #227 out of (allegedly) 650. Very clean with all original paperwork in the custom chipboard case. The center tone knob is not functioning, but all else works great. See it in action here:" [embed above]

"16 fader MIDI controller. 128 presets selectable via the DIP switches on the back or by program change message over MIDI...

the following Midi messages can be generated:
any controller, after touch, pitch bend, common RPN resp. NRPN controller, as well as most of the current GS and XG controllers resp. XG SysEx messages

the MIDI channel can be set for each control separately (of course all knobs may transmit on the same channel too, any combinations of MIDI message and MIDI channel are possible)

the editor program (PC version) enables the user to program his own 128 presets. This means that you can define the function of each of the 16 controllers in your own 128 presets. You no longer depend on the factory presets ! The program can be downloaded free of charge from our internet site - e.g. to test the programming possibilities before you purchase the Pocket Control"

Original Roland SH-3 with Kenton CV Mods

"In excellent condition and 100% working order.
As you can see from pictures very clean, a couple of small scratches here and there, has the Kenton 3 socket gate/cv/filter installed. With a midi to cv converter like the Pro Solo you can control the cv/gate and filter of the synth. Has been overhauled, all capacitors replaced, all sliders pots and switches cleaned and re-lubricated, plays wonderfully..."

Update: The auction mentions the SH-3 had the Moog ladder filter. It actually did not. Via wikipedia & Keith Kniveton on Facebook: "Contrary to common belief, the initial version "SH-3" did not infringe on the transistor ladder-filter patent of Robert Moog. It used a diode filter like the EMS VCS3. The SH-3a does use a transistor ladder-filter and as a result can generate Moog-like sounds.  [edit]"  Also see this post.

"The synth has the Kenton 3 socket kit installed. You can controlled filter, and cv/gate from your DAW/sequencer. The synth has had a complete overhal, all capacitors were replaced, very high quality parts were used and some audio grade caps on the signal path. Sound is amazing. Everything has been tested and works 100%."

"Another sound machine but this one is totally analogue, built in an old voltmeter. Music in the background is not made by the device, I left something on by accident."

PMT Exclusive - Korg Volca Range Demonstration PMTVUK·30 videos

"At Frankfurt musikmesse 2013, PMT grabbed a first look at the new KORG
Volca range. We witnessed Boris from Korg Europe putting Volca through
its paces, and the results were excellent.

The rumour mill before the show was rife with talk of KORG releasing
further retro based vintage products that are packed with analog
technology. The range comprises of three separate models, we have the
Volca Bass, a unique three oscillator analog bass synthesizer, the
Volca Beats which is an analog drum machine featuring a comprehensive
16 step sequencer, Completing the lineup is the Volca Keys, a
straightforward yet effective polyphonic analog synthesizer which also
features a loop sequencer. The fun doesn't end there, each unit in the
Volca range has a MIDI input and sync jack making it easy to interface
with your favorite DAW.

A Note on Site Links & Musikmesse Posts

I added a note on why you sometimes see active links in posts and sometimes do not in the Post Guidelines here. I also removed the Musikemsse link off of the top right of the site menu above, now that the event is over and posts covering the event have been trickling down. You can search for Musikmesse on the top left of the site, sort by date and click on the Musikmesse2013 label for this year's posts.
