Kawai K3m Synthesizer Module

Published on May 26, 2013 Alan Masterweb·3 videos

"NB: Certainly not intended to be musical!
This is to demonstrate some of the sonic potential of the Kawai K3m Synthesizer Module. It also give an idea of how well this synth responds to the control of a Behringer BCR2000. With every parameter of the K3m assigned to a knob or button on the BCR2000, it becomes an instantly accessible hands-on synth. This was recorded directly from the K3m stereo outs, with no external effects, EQ, compression or normalizing. Notes and arpeggios are being triggered by a Yamaha KX25 Controller keyboard."

"Fairly uncommon (it'd a bit of a stretch to call it rare) vintage hybrid analogue rack mountable version of the K3 keyboard synth. This predates Kawai's K1, K4 and K5, coming, as it does from 1986.

The main advantage this one has over the others in the 'K' series is that, apart from it's oscillators, it's all analogue. In fact it uses the same SSM2044 filter chips as Korg's Mono/Poly, PolySix and Trident. More significantly this was the same filter used in the PPG Wave, which also used digital oscillators. This is why the K3 is sometimes referred to as the poor man's PPG...

Another great aspect to the K3m is its ability to be tweaked in real-time by a midi control surface, such as the Behringer BCR2000... [or an iPad]"

"This particular example has had the so-called 'Moog-Slayer' mods installed. This means there is a dedicated knob for the analogue filter cut-off and resonance. It makes a huge difference to the hands-on operation of the synth.

It also comes complete with it's original padded soft case, in a very fetching 1980's baby blue and orange."

New Run Original EMS Synthi A

"This is one of the last 40 EMS Synthi's ever to be produced. I've spent more than a decade on the waiting list for it. New orders are no longer being accepted as the Spartanite briefcases essential to the Synthi design are no longer available.
In other words, according to the manufacturer, this unit is among the last handful of Synthi's ever.

This instrument was meticulously hand-built and precision-calibrated earlier this year by Robin Wood of EMS himself. It's in absolutely perfect operational and cosmetic condition. It's also the only truly new Synthi I've ever seen on eBay.

I placed my order for this Synthi with EMS in the UK in 2001. It was finally delivered in early 2012. A few years after placing my order I got impatient and had the chance to buy an older Synthi A, so at the moment I actually have two units. The two are almost identical but the older one has more sentimental value to me, having owned & played it for almost 10 years. After long deliberation I've decided to sell this new one.

In terms of design, compared to the 70's units, the only differences I've spotted are a squarish attack button instead of a round one (the new design is an improvement over the older one, which was much harder to push down), and the fact that the label on the briefcase now reads "EMS Cornwall" instead of "EMS London" (the company moved). The operating voltage is still switchable between 110v and 220v via a switch inside the briefcase.

In terms of sound, comparing this to my 1970's Synthi I hear no differences in sound character or response; it has all the unique sonic character that Synthi's are legendary for, while at the same time being perfectly calibrated and sounding exactly as its designer intended. I've had the chance to try out several Synthi's over the past 15 years, and this sounds exactly like the older units, but without the inevitable scratchiness of used instruments.

This is a Synthi A, not an AKS. That means it comes without a keyboard in the lid of the briefcase; those were only available in the 70's.
It can of course be controlled by an external CV keyboard, or by MIDI with a suitable MIDI-to-CV converter. This is a "MkII" Synthi A, with a matte aluminium front panel, and output rows on the pin matrix.

The Synthi comes with all the original accessories: a full set of 18 patch pins (white, red and green), the power cord, and the 90-page "Synthi Educational Handbook" manual. Comes in original, incredibly sturdy, packaging as well."

"it is in great condition. it has had a full service from a experienced synth repair to make sure that everything was working for sale. the keyboard has had very little use. it has spent its life being linked up to and controlled another wasp and therefore got very little physical wear on the keyboard. i have uploaded a video giving a quick demo of to show that it is working..... the sound drops because my camera phone mic is on its way out..."

"FORMERLY KNOWN AS M-Z3R0 I DECIDED TO CHANGE THE NAME TO X1L3.  PARTLY BECAUSE I WAS SICK OF MY NAME LOOKING LIKE A PARODY OF S-CAT, PARTLY BECAUSE I WANTED A NEW NAME TO REFLECT THE NEW DIRECTION I'VE TAKEN AND PARTLY BECAUSE I THINK X1L3 LOOKS BETTER :-)

LISTED HERE IS THE LAST OF THE TWO FINAL MACHINES I MADE UNDER THE NAME OF M-Z3R0 I BUILT TWO OF THESE JUST BEFORE I VANISHED FOR A WHILE. ONE OF THEM HAS MADE IT'S WAY TO CANADA AND HERE IS THE SECOND ONE.

MY PSS30'S ARE USED BY THE BANDS IN DEATH IT ENDS AND MECHANICAL CABARET. I'VE SOLD A LOT OF THESE ALONG WITH NUMEROUS CASIO SA'S MODIFIED TO THE SAME SPEC. I'VE RECIEVED A LOT OF GOOD FEEDBACK ABOUT THEM ESPECIALLY FROM IN DEATH IT ENDS WHO HAVE USED IT ALL OVER THEIR LATEST ALBUM.

BEAST FOR SOUND MANIPULATION.

A TINY LITTLE SYNTH WITH A HUGE SOUND. QUITE SWEET IN IT'S LITTLE WAY AND CAPABLE OF BEING BOTH NICE AND NASTY TO WHATEVER DEGREE YOU WANT TO PUSH IT. IF YOU'RE AFTER SOMETHING A BIT DIFFERENT WITHOUT HAVING TO RUN AN ANALOGUE SYNTH THROUGH A CHAIN OF FX PEDALS THEN YOU'LL ENJOY THIS MACHINE. IT HOLDS IT'S OWN AS A BASIC RETRO ANALOGUE SYNTH WITH IT'S NICE ANALOGUE FILTER AND TAKES IT ALL TO A DIFFERENT LEVEL. FOR FILM SCORE WORK, WITCH HOUSE, POWER ELECTRONICS AND INDUSTRIAL NOISE THIS MACHINE IS A KILLER."

Expanded Klaus Schulze Edition Black Quasimidi 309 GROOVE-X RAVE-O-LUTION

Published on May 8, 2013 MarkJenkinsMusic·27 videos

via this auction

"This is my rare QUASIMIDI 309-Groove-X rare KLAUS SCHULZE LIMITED EDITION now for sale in London.

It's a special version of the Rave-O-Lution 309 with a black finish, Klaus Schulze signature, special patterns, and two expansion sound memories on board.

The 309 is basically a Roland TR808/909 style drum machine plus a TB303 style bassline synth and sequencer, with dozens of drum, percussion and synth sounds to choose from, four audio outputs, two audio input, built-in effects and MIDI.

As such it's great for dance and DJ composers, and in this version particularly good for synth/sequencer composers too. There are patterns onboard which sound like entire Klaus Schulze techno albums alone.

The bass drum, snare and hi-hat sounds can be chosen from a whole bank of samples and have pitch and decay altered. There's a 12-note polyphonic bank of percussion sounds which include a lot of synth and string hits so make the instrument sound more like a polyphonic synth. The mono lead/bass synth of course has variable lowpass filter with resonance, and there's an overall Overblast overdrive as well as delay, flanger, reverb and other effects.

Patterns can be composed and chained into Songs and dumped via MIDI.

This 309 is in very good condition and includes rack ears and original power supply. There's a slight bend in the top left of the panel which isn't noticeable when rackmounted. Occasionally it's a little eccentric - some buttons sometimes need a firmer press than others and the display which usually flicks back to Tempo when it's not doing anything else sometimes stays on the last parameter you've edited. Nothing major though.

I'd like this to be collected in London (UK) and paid in cash. I will ship to the UK and to the USA, Germany and the rest of Europe, but you'll have to arrange payment by bank transfer or some other reliable method as I don't use PayPal.
