Benge's Twenty Systems Re-Released

via Benge's It's Full of Stars

"My 2008 album Twenty Systems has been reissued at last! So if you have been looking for it out there in the shops or online since it sold out a few years ago - well you can get it here (if you are in USA you can pre-order it here). The release is exactly the same as the original with the exception of a few minor tweaks that niggled me about the original (but the content and audio are identical). Thanks to Steve Malins, Darren at Cargo, and Paul Agar for helping to make it happen this time round!"

This is a great release and comes with a booklet filled with synth pics as you can see from some of the shots below.  Click here for a pic of the book.  Each track features only one synth.  You'll find a link to an interview with Benge on the initial release with some additional notes here.   The release transverses synths over time starting with the 1968 Moog modular and ending with 1987's Kawai K5.  This release is HIGHLY recommended for the music, the pics and audio showcasing individual synths.

AMSynths Update: AM8060SE JP6 VCF & AM8044 VCF & VCA

AMSynths Newsletter July 2013

"Latest News: Over the last few weeks we have been busy building modules for customers, as well as completing the testing of the exciting new AM8060SE JP6 filter, and a new VCF, HPF & VCA module the AM8105. Stock levels in the web store will start increasing again, and we are building AM8109 JP8 VCF, AM8140 Dual ADSR, AM8044 and AM8328 VCF's over the next month. So if you are after one of these modules, they will be in stock.

We will launch a very limited run of AM8320 VCF modules that use the CEM3320 configured to replicate the sound of SCI Pro One in late July. Details are here. If you wish to reserve one just reply to this newsletter. And finally, during August we should get round to launching some VCO modules, you can see the E-mu Systems Simple VCO that we have redesigned and replicated as the AM2210 here. Next projects to complete in the summer are both a Roland JP8 VCO and the ARP dual Athena VCO.

Best Regards
AMSynths"

"AM8060SE JP6 VCF
This new module is being launched in July with a batch of 10x modules going out initially to customers who have reserved the module. This is a dual SVF filter with low, band and high pass modes controlled by original Roland JP6 switches. The module goes into self oscillation at high resonance setting and we have carefully trimmed the design to ensure this is controlled, as SVF's can produce a huge signal level when oscillating, The original AM8060 used hard to locate IR3109 chips but we are now using SSM2164's which means we can build all the modules that customers want. Sound demos will be up on the web site soon."

"AM8044 VCF & VCA
The AM8044 module has a 4-pole low pass filter, as used in the Korg Poly 6, followed be a precision VCA. Just connect a couple of VCO's and a Dual ADSR (lie the AM8140) and you have a complete synth! A nice warm filter coupled with a very useful VCA, buy one in the webstore today at 125 GBP. Here is the link."

"Rare UK version of the Siel Opera 6 in fantastic condition. Very few signs of wear. Would prefer to have this picked up in London but am willing to ship international securely. Note the costly shipping rate on this fragile item. Fantastic sounding little beast, great for all you italo disco wannabes (I am one too). Priced to move..."

"Waveform Animator - 8x LFO + 8x phase shifter in Eurorack (Doepfer) format.

From one simple input waveform makes 8 "phase shifted" waves.
Sounds like 8 oscillators from one VCO only.
It is not working with square waveforms."

"Animator module for eurorack / Doepfer A100 - ladik L-010.

Creates "fat moving sound" from simple tri / saw / sine waveform. Not usable for rectangular shapes.

Think about it as VCO extension - exact tone tuning ensures your VCO and Animator creates 8 phase-shifted and endlessly moving waveshapes summed to Animator´s output.

Sounds like 9 slightly detuned VCOs together, sounds simply FAT (8 shifted waves + 1 original from input).

Contains 8 phase shifters drived by 8 LFOs at 8 different frequencies (34 opamps total).

Try mix two waveforms in different octaves to Animator´s input (sine and triangle for example) - at Animator´s output you´ll get sound like from some kind of ring modulator but softer/milder and moving.

Parallel input (2) and output (2) jacks.

Quality connectors made in England (no cheapo China), durable engraved panel.

Built by me the best way I know. Handy 20cm (8") power cable included.

Width: 8TE/ 8HP/ 40,3mm.

Depth: 70mm /2,8" max.

Current: 90mA max.

Remarks (answers to your questions)

Settings:
There is no need for setting, internal LFO frequencies are spread between 1Hz to 0,01Hz and its frequencies are set in prime numbers ratio to minimize beating. This works well in full VCO audio range from low to high and exact LFO sequence repeats in very long times (in hours).

Stereo:
Infernal spatial sound will be heard if you´ll use two Animators for stereo (parallel inputs from one VCO, outs to left and right channel).
But for following sound processing you´ll need everything twice, i.e. for left and right channel independently (two VCFs, VCAs and so on).

If you have any idea for an custom module let me know. I´m preparing some further modules so stay tuned :)"

"The Dual SV Filter is a double 12dB/octave state-variable multimode filter which can be used as one or two mono filters or as a stereo filter. The audio input as well as the CV inputs of the left filter are normalized to the according inputs of the right filter which is super practical in stereo use as you omit multiples and a number of patch cords.

Each filter has a switch for inverting the CV - also very interesting when used with one common CV for both filters as you get opposite modulations.

~30 mm Deep"
