A blast from the past at NAMM 2008. The Linndrum 2 which became the Tempest. It looks like Audiofanzine is uploading some of their older videos. Little bits of synth history cropping up in the present.

Yamaha A-505 assembly

"I don't know yet what I am going to do with this organ. I got it because it was free and because it would be scrapped if I didn't take it.
In the early 1980's Yamaha had a brilliant way of saving space in shipping containers: They made their organs with a system of locks and hinges so that the cabinet could be folded down to a smaller volume. Thereby they could ship more organs in the same space. This system also made it possible for me to transport the organ in my small Suzuki car.
The music is "Theme from Love Story" played on the three Elka organs EP-8, Preludio 22L, and Cappriccio 33L. It was something I recorded back in the analog days."

"Absolutely NO music on this video, just the automated smd surface component mounting for the LFO 2 board of Grp A4 Analog Synthesizer. To see the three laser driven heads dancing on the board while picking and positioning electronic components is amazing."

KORG DW-8000 Synthesizer 1985 | HD DEMO | PATCHES

You can buy these patches - read the description for further details.
Synthesizer demo of the vintage synthesizer Korg DW-8000 from 1985.
In this movie I play some of my own sounds - no additional effects or eq were used.
The Korg DW-8000 is a expanded version of the DW-6000. It is 8 voice polyphonic, has digital waveforms and analog resonant filters. Velocity sensitive keyboard. It has a built in digital delay and a really good arpeggiator, which can be synced via MIDI.

THE SOUND PROGRAMS IN THIS MOVIE:
Do you own a Korg DW-8000 or EX-8000 and want to get those fantastic sounds for your synth?
The brandnew "ANALOGAUDIO1 DW-8000 PATCH BANK" costs 12,99 Euros and includes 64 great patches - warm analog pads, hybrid pads, percussive sounds, leads, fat basses, and sequencer sounds (in one word: all you hear in the video and some more).
As an experienced synth player and composer I created these patches for professional use. This patchbank gets the most out of your Korg DW-8000. Also included is a patch list (PDF), to find the right sounds quickly. The sounds are not available anywhere else.
The patchbank will work with a DW-8000 or EX-8000, but NOT with the DW-6000. For the DW-6000 I created a different patch bank.
After payment through PayPal you will get the patchbank as a sound file (wav) for the tape interface of your DW-8000 and a patchlist via email.
If you want to buy the "ANALOGAUDIO1 DW-8000 PATCHBANK", send me a message through YouTube (and check your spam folder, I answer quickly).

This performance starts out with a catchy repeating motif, followed by live improvisation ending with a nice sustained drone and live fadeout.
This music was created using 2 oscillators, filter and envelope adjustments, delay, LFOs, resonance and various other parameters on the Alesis A6 Andromeda synthesizer.
Performed live, no external processing. Excerpt from a longer session.

Excerpt from Wikipedia on ambient music:
As a genre, ambient focuses on creating a mood or atmosphere through synthesizers and timbral qualities. It often lacks the presence of any net composition, beat, or structured melody. Due to its relatively open style, ambient music often takes influences from many other genres, ranging from house, dub, industrial and new age, amongst several others. Since it is a relatively ambiguous term, ambient has no distinct characteristics, and its style can vary a great deal. In essence, it is a term to describe any form of electronic music which puts an emphasis on tone and atmosphere over traditional musical structure or rhythm. Ambient music is often highly conceptual and experimental in style, while it is said to evoke an "atmospheric", "visual" or "unobtrusive" quality.
Excepts from Wikipedia on space music:
Space music, also called spacemusic, is an umbrella term, synonymous with a segment of New Age Music and Ambient Music.[citation needed] It has also been associated with preceding styles of relaxing music such as lounge music, easy-listening, and elevator music... space music can evoke a "continuum of spatial imagery and emotion,"[11] which can be beneficial for introspection, and for developing, through a practice of deep listening, an awareness of the spatiality of sound phenomenon. This type of psychonautic listening can produce a subtle trance-like state in certain individuals which can in turn lead to sensations of flying, floating, cruising, gliding, or hovering... space music is used by some individuals for both background enhancement and foreground listening, often with headphones, to enable states of relaxation, contemplation, inspiration, and generally peaceful expansive moods; it may promote health through relaxation, atmospherics for bodywork therapies, and effectiveness of meditation. Space music appears in many film soundtracks and is commonly played in planetariums."
