Pittsburgh Modular Cell 48 System 1

"The Cell [48] System 1 is a complete single voice, analog synthesizer and a great entry point into modular synthesis. Using the Synthesizer Block module as it's centerpiece, the System 1 contains all of the most important components of a modular synthesizer. Connected internally, the Cell[48] System 1 is hardwired to create a complete monophonic synthesizer without needing to add patch cables. However, each major component within the System 1 is fully patchable and can function independent to the rest of the system by using the available patch points and included patch cables.

An unpatched Cell[48] System 1 offers direct access to a wide array of classic analog monosynth sounds. Without a single patch cable, deep bass and warm sweeping leads are just a few knob tweaks away.
Plugging in a few patch cables opens the Cell[48] System 1 to experimentation by offering unlimited control over both the modulation and audio signal paths. The full functionality of the Oscillator, Filter, LFO, Envelope Generator, VCA, Midi, and Outputs can be broken apart and used like standalone synthesizer modules. All of the elements of a classic voltage controlled, modular synthesizer are available as an open, patchable, modern synth..."

"Awesome Bit Of Info:
The Designers Used Some Various Eurorack Modules As Source Sounds For This Synth.
This Is The First Synth That Has Some Harvestman Zorlon Cannon Sounds Included....

'Rather than rely on digital synth modeling, M-Audio has used raw samples of the original instruments to give the Venom its voice. Taiho Yamada, the designer of the Venom, wheeled out dozens of specimens from his vast synth collection (and called in a few favors from friends) to gather samples. These samples of vintage synths — Moogs, Arps, Oberheims, Rolands and the lot — form the foundation of the Venom’s sonic palette. Yamada’s team also sampled some bizarre old hardware. A Harvestman Zorlon Cannon, which employs the same kind of tone generator used in the Atari 2600, was used to achieve some chiptune flavors. An old, tube-driven Hewlett-Packard test oscillator yielded a pure and glassy sine wave. A circuit-bent Roland TR-808 supplied some crunchy drums.'"

Check out my review and interview with Taiho Yamada here. You can find an M-Audio Venom iPad editor here for TB MIDI Stuff, and a wireless one here for TouchOSC and The Missing Link.

"The MFB KRAFTZWERG Eurorack module is a complete ready to go module that pops straight into your modular system and includes the popular Dual LFO, Triple VCO, 24dB VCF, VCA and DUAL ADSR module.

The module KRAFTZWERG can only be played by transfers from Key-CV and gate signals thanks to its internal pre-wiring of the classical pathway VCO-VCF-VCA and the most popular modulation connections without additional patch connections. Due to its 37 patch but it is also possible to break the signal path in order to integrate or control various functions with external CV sources, such as step-sequencers, wheels or theremin controllers external components.

Key CV and Gate can KRAFTZWERG module incidentally also received via the system, provided that an appropriate MIDI-CV or bus access module feeds the signals in the system. Thus, the KRAFTZWERG module is playable without a single patch connection.

The module KRAFTZWERG offers far more than the basic equipment of a voice synthesizer. It has all the necessary components for a powerful and flexible sound generation. The oscillator section provides habitat for three VCOs, each with three waveforms that have hard-sync, pulse width modulation, ring modulation and a separate output. The oscillator block is affiliated to a blender, in which an additional noise generator can be mixed. The resonant filter is a 24-dB low-pass filter with a transistor cascade. A CV-controllable LFOs and two envelopes AHDSR, a VCA, and two multiples, round off the equipment.

Although the KRAFTZWERG module is housed on an entire board, the individual components can be used in combination with other (compatible) analog modules independently of each other and. Except for minor deviations functionality and sound correspond to separate MFB modules. Moreover, it is of course possible that KRAFTZWERG module with other modules MFB, such as the Step Sequencer SEQ-02 or an additional LFOs to add in a rack.

The module KRAFTZWERG has a width of 60 MW (units, about 305 mm) and is equipped with a Doepfer system-compatible cable connection.Unlike the console version of KRAFTZWERG the module has no built-in MIDI-CV interface.

Features:
· Modular version of MFB KRAFTZWERG
· 3 analog oscillators
· 24 dB low pass filter
· Dual LFO, two envelope generators, VCA
· 37 patch for CV and gate control
· all components can be used individually
· compatible with all Eurorack Doepfer format"

"Martin Hannett's ( Joy Division producer and many Manchester and Factory bands producer, he played synths on many Factory records) actual International 4600 analog patchable synth . Not much needed to restore as cosmetically it is all there and the keyboard was triggering synth sounds recently, but sold as complete restoration project. comes with Martin Hannett's build and instruction manual from 1977/78/79/80 and copy of his patch notes..."
