cellF 2 - Using Organic, Biological Neurons to Control a Modular

"We hooked some living neurons up to a nonlinearcircuits modular. the neuronal noise was amplified & fed thru filters, also used to CV a VCO. The action potentials (triggers) were used to drive the sequencers. We used a pulse divider to provide a feedback signal to the neurons and they seemed to appreciate this a lot :) Thanks to Nathan for the footage."

Modular Jam #12 - Braids Chord Mode

"Here's the latest synth jam in the typical style of 'this is pretty cool, I'll film' style. Nothing pre planned or composed just a patch I ended up while playing around then recorded.

No camera to hand so ended up filming it on my phone (hence the vertical video and blurred out copies to fill the screen). Audio was still line in from the modular set up.

Braids is the star of the show here with the /| /| x 3 mode which is 3 saw waves with individual tuning. A sequence is running for the main pattern with an additional sequence running to move one of the saw waves independently giving various chords rather than one chord with each voice moving together.

Drums were synthesised in with a variety of oscillators and filters with VCA and envelopes keeping those in check."

"Percussion Work 4" - Delptronics LDB 1e & 1x

"Here is how the Delptronics Little Drummer Boy modules sound with the Doepfer A101-2 (in VCA mode) and some different effect colors changed in places. My impression of the delptronics is it is a great value and space saving, ideal for smaller modular setups like mine. With both the main module (an 8 piece drum kit!) and the expansion together, only take up 10hp. My ideal enhancement would be to add a 4hp snare drum module.
This piece is reminiscent of groove etudes I've played (when I played drums). My drumming has now transitioned from using drumsticks and pedals to using switches and a clock divider. As in this piece, I used a very special switch from Trouby Modular (from Germany) called Switch 8. This allows for lightening fast switching in any combinations. In this work, the bass and snare play a polyrythmic ostinato, while the hihat plays a 'melodic solo' with accents playing other polyrhythmic ratios. Of course, the clock divider is the 4ms Rotating Clock Divider. The toggles were set in place and not changed in this piece. The effects were from the Zoom HD8 multitrack. Actual patching shown. (did not use dual trigger delay even though that's pictured patched).

New Folktek Arts Aether

"Aether, created by Arius Blaze, is a touch based work with a very sweet and rich sound similar to that of the Euphonos Field (though not as broad). It features 20 oscillators and a 20 note polyphony, is capable of connecting with anything that accepts control voltage and also has a set of touch "keys" that transmit CV.

Two touch panels contain 10 responsive "keys" each that represent the primary low oscillators and higher decay oscillators. When the global pitch is dropped, the low oscillators go into a synchronized LFO mode where each key represents a different time signature. The decay section is made to have a natural decay where attack and sustain are controlled by touch. Another panel integrates a more subtle set of oscillators that replicate the decay panel and are made to influence the other oscillators. Finally, the amp section alters the sound of the low oscillators and provides everything from deep, filtering swells to subtle pitch change.

These oscillators travel to a reverb/delay (switchable) that provides an enormous reverb or a nasty tape style delay. Additionally, an external signal can utilize these effects as well. In fact, the synthesis of Aether can be made to pass through the player, into the upcoming synthesizer "Materia" which is then sent into the effect section of Aether where it can be mixed with the original signal how you like.

*This piece is made to connect with an upcoming synthesizer called "Materia" which greatly expands the possibilities and sounds. Materia will be available when Aether is officially released (not preorder). Materia provides its own clicky poppy deliciously odd drum sounds and rhythms via trigger-based sequencing, touch-based wierdness, CV sequencing to control and synchronize with Aether as well as more touch panels that allow the synthesis of Aether to be heavily altered. It also allows the oscillators of Aether to pass through the user without any audio cables connecting the two(!). Materia has a second power jack and if both pieces are purchased, a jumper cable will be provided to eliminate the need for two power supplies.

Aether Control Voltage is as follows;
Global CV input
Clock output (to synchronize Materia or anything else with the rhythmic clicking/popping of the low panel when the pitch is dropped.

CV out transmits 0-5v based on touching the decay "keys". Each key outputs a dedicated voltage in .5v increments."

Intermix, Chaos Computer, Pattern Generator modules

"The Kilpatrick Audio K815 Pattern Generator is connected via MIDI to the Mutable Instruments Yarns. The Pattern Generators clock is carried via MIDI to the Yarns which is then clocking the Livewire Chaos Computer via EXT Clock. The Intermix is interconnected to the Chaos Computer. The mixed output of the Intermix (which represent mixed random voltages from both channels of the Chaos Computer) are being used to change through the Braids wavetables as the Kilpatrick Pattern Generator chooses new notes The Left and Right Intermix outputs are modulating the Audio Damage Aeverb and Dub Jr Delay modules (dampness and time)."
