Passive VCF

Published on Nov 18, 2014 otherunicorn

"This VCF is 100% passive. It is of the classic LC configuration. A switch allows it to be changed between high pass and low pass modes. Tuning is done by either putting a resistance across a second winding on L, or by putting a tiny current through it. Needless to say, this introduces distortion, and is somewhat limited in the attainable range. A negative CV will cause different distortion/thus tone to a positive one.
VCO and LFO being used with this are both part of a Roland 100M"

If you ever wondered what one of these sounded like, here you go. Just waiting to be drenched in effects.

"Up for sale is very rare Soviet vintage analog synthesizer "FAEMI MINI". It is a compact monophonic synth produced in 1980s by radio equipment factory 'Formanta', which is the manufacturer of such well-known synthesizers as Polivoks, Formanta, Maestro etc.

[description via ruskeys.net]
The keyboard of the device has 3 octaves, from F till E included. The width of the keys and their arrangement correspond to the accordion keyboard. The sound range of the device amounts to 6 octaves, which provides the possibility of reproducing any note of standard equal temperamental pitch from F in the controctave to E in the 4-th octave. The coverage of the range is reached by successive switching on the four main register key switches 5, 6, 7, and 8. Varying combinations of activated switches (one, two, three, or four), and adding to them a supplementary register switch (fourth from the left), it is possible to get 19 sound variants differing in pitch and timbre. It provides a performer with wide opportunities, enabling him to simulate the sounds of some well-known instruments and to form new original timbres immediately in the course of music performance.

By switching on the switch 3, one can soften the timbre of the sound due to lowering the level of hight registers. The switch 2 play the automatic frequency vibrato function, which adds warmth to the sound and makes it more melodic. The desired depth of vibration is set by the regulator "Vibration". The design and the arrangement of the volume regulator makes it possible to change the volume in the course of performance in order to make it more impressive. With the help of the regulator "Fine-tuning", it is possible to fine-tune Faemi to other instruments in case it is used in ensemble performance.

Creating of various timbres is carried out on the basis of the register synthesis method. The combination of semiconductor devices with printed circuitry makes it possible to lower the size and the weight of the instrument and to ensure high reliability and efficiency.Faemi is designed in a light metal case with a separable plastic top. For transportation, the instrument is placed in a jacket and covered with a protective flap.

The unit can be powered by any standard 9 volts power adapter (socket installed).
Audio output is 1/4 TRS "Jack" (socket installed)"

via the seller: "THIS IS MY PERSONAL MICROMOOG MODEL 2090 SYNTEHSIZER I HAND BUILT FROM SCRATCH IN THE LATE 70'S WHEN I WORKED FOR MOOG AS A SERVICE TECHNICIAN. IT WAS NEVER PLAYED PROFESSIONALLY AND NEVER SEEN A SMOKEY BAR, NIGHTCLUB, OR DAMP CONDITIONS. IT HAS BEEN KEPT IN A HEATED WORKSHOP IT'S ENTIRE LIFE. ALL COMPONENTS ARE OEM MOOG PARTS AND WERE HAND INSERTED AND SOLDERED. MOST I.C.'S WERE ALSO SOCKETED FOR EASY REPLACEMENT (NEVER HAD TO REPLACE ANY). I TESTED THIS INSTRUMENT AND IT IS FULLY OPERATIONAL. ALL KNOBS ARE THERE AND SELECTOR SWITCHES ARE TIGHT DUE TO THEIR LIMITED USE. I CLEANED ALL THE SWITCHES WITH MOOG RECOMMENDED CRAMOLIN CONTACT/ LUBRICANT SPRAY. ALL KEYBOARD CONTACTS AND BUSS BAR WERE CLEANED ALSO. AS SEEN IN THE PICS, THIS MICRO HAS NO SERIAL NUMBER BECAUSE IT WAS BUILT FROM PARTS AND NOT FACTORY ASSEMBLED. THE ONLY ISSUE IS THE MINOR ADHESIVE RESIDUE COMING OUT OF THE MAIN CONTROL PANEL OVERLAY. IT CAN BE SEEN IN THE PICS. THIS CAN BE EXPECTED FROM A VINYL OVERLAY OVER 35 YEARS OLD. IT IS NOT VERY NOTICABLE AND WILL NOT AFFECT THIS INSTRUMENT'S PERFORMANCE."

Elka ER44 rackmount FM synth & Data Cart with Art Proverb FX

I believe this is the first Elka ER44 to be featured on MATRIXSYNTH.

via the listing: "extremely rare Elka ER44 rackmount FM digital synth in pristine condition. The ER44 is the rack mount version of the EK44 that came out in 1986. There is a tabletop version (EM44) and some stripped down versions (EK22, EM22) but the ER44 has to be the most rare of the bunch. Which is a shame, because it is a really cool if not quirky FM synth with 9 + 9 (dual DCG) voice polyphony that can be split, layered, and responds to velocity and aftertouch! There is also a 16 preset multi memory for quick recall of performances and it is 8 part multitimbral. The envelopes are 5 segment ADBDR, there is portamento and the LFO has SIN, SAW, SQUARE, and RANDOM with delay. It even has built in chorus

Though it is digital, it reminds me of the DK80 a little bit, kind of furry and distinctively retro. By stacking presets, it is capable of some really cool sounds and FX."
