Variatic Rings -001

Published on Jan 31, 2016 Owen Canivet

"Patch Based Around Mutable Instruments Rings and Noise Engineering Variatic Erumption.

Sequencing:

Sound Machines DC-1 as master clock supplies 4MS QCD. Clock divided and fed to VE hit inputs/clock, Qu-bit Nano Rand, Modcan Quad LFO & SSF Ultra Random. VE Channel 1 clocks Modcan Touch Sequencer. Channel 2 to Nord Drum for Percussion. End of sequence from Channel 2 chokes channel 1. Channel 2 is choked by by Random gates from Qu-bit Nano Rand. Stepped output from Ultra Random to pattern input of VE.
Modcan Touch pitches Mutable Rings, strum input on Rings from Randomised trigger output on DC-1 (density populated by SSF random output). Extra triggers provided by DC-1. Tiny Hats sequenced by cv’d QCD output.

Sounds:

Custom Percussion created on Nord Drum 2. Rings as Lead/Bass.Pad created by mutable braids (swarm model) through Addac 601 and filtered. Bands cv’d by Modcan Quad LFO. Noise Risers by SSF Quantum rainbow (white noise) and processed by Modcan dual delay. Hi pitched drone made from frozen chord in Mutable clouds. Pitched sounds made from Make Noise phonogene modulated by SSF URA with a very high grain rate and shifted by QCD. Tiny hats SSF QR (purple noise) through Intelligel HexVCA. Simple melody from ALM Akemie’s Castle with two mixed sine waves mixed and phased to give slight chorus effect. Multiplier cv’d by SSF URA stepped output to create random pitches. Stabs made from custom samples created for Music Thing Radio module, randomly cv’d and triggered by Make noise LXD. Output then fed to Qu-bit RT-60. This is randomly sequenced with triggers and delay is added by Modcan Dual Delay.

Mixing:

8 channels output to Soundcraft Mixer (one channel on mixer used live to fade). Eventide Space on Send. Mixed panned, fed through Logic to record, PSP vintage warmer strapped to master bus to glue things together.

Equipment:

All Eurorack modules except Nord Drum 2 and Eventide space :)"

Evaton Technologies Synth DIY class @ West Liberty University

Russ Hoffman, of Evaton Technologies, recently gave a Synth DIY workshop at West Liberty University. Students learned how oscillators and filters work, while constructing a reduced version of the Evaton Technologies SDIY MDRONE kit. (The kits were reduced to a single oscillator, to accommodate the constraints of building the kits in the allotted time.)

The workshop was held in conjunction with Professor of Music, Dr. Matthew Harder's Electronic Music Ensemble, at West Liberty University.

The students will be performing with their new drone synths in an electronic music ensemble concert at the university in April.

You'll find photos here.
