JV-1080 Noodling - "Don Solaris"
Published on May 10, 2016 bitleyTM
"Playing with an EPS 16+ sequencer pattern controlling 8 midi tracks in a JV-1080 using the new and pretty nifty Don Solaris soundset - link below - as well as a simple drumkit from the Roland Dance expansion JV card simply changing 'patterns' by transposing the part (regular part, not a drum part but there are kits also among the instrument patches on that card). Patches tried out here are for instance SH101 Lead, JV80 D.Bass, 24 db Bass, TransistBass, AcidLine, Prophet VS, ESQ1 sweeps, etc. The EPS / ASR sequencer is very easy to use and kind of cool. 'Create instrument' on the EPS and set midi channel, repeat until all 8 slots are loaded. Can also play sampler presets together with midi if you create layers, for instance.

For those of you new into this the 1080 and the EPS 16+ were two of the most popular synth instruments in the mid 90's... that's how old they are; they cost peanuts today but still deliver! Great bargains!"

Teenage Engineering OP-1: MY FIRST TAPE by RemixSample
Published on May 10, 2016 RemixSample RemixSample
"Quick unboxing of Teenage Engineering OP-1 and playthrough demo of my first tape.
Learning how to use the OP-1 is not something you master after a couple of days. I thought it sounded like garbage the first couple of hours because I didn't understand how to use the mixer and the effects, thankfully I stayed patient and I'm slowly coming around to loving the OP-1. I don't love that it's mono though. I could always fake stereo but that's not the same. Maybe a future update will address that? *praise odin*
It's also weird to go from a DAW where everything syncs and snaps in place and you never have to worry about keeping time and staying on beat. There are plenty of sequencing tools that you can use to make a proper 4x4 track though so future tapes will sound better I'm sure."

Gary Numan Receives the 2016 Moog Innovation Award
via Moog Music
"Moog Music is proud to announce that Gary Numan has has been selected to recieve the Moog Innovation Award at Moogfest 2016. Numan joins past honorees Devo, Brian Eno and Thomas Dolby.
One of the original pioneers of popular electronic music, Gary Numan’s enduring pursuit of new sounds has led to a career spanning over 35 years, with over 50 releases, 23 Top-40 singles and 13 Top-40 records. Numan's first three solo albums, Replicas (1979), The Pleasure Principle (1979) and Telekon (1980), make up his post-pop “Machine Trilogy”, and are the prototype for modern industrial music. Replacing guitars with heavily effected synthesizers, Numan’s early work is almost single handedly responsible for introducing post-punk electronica into the popular consciousness, while propelling synth music beyond Prog Rock to inspire the wave of 80s synth pop that soon followed.
His impact on the three generations of music since can’t be understated. Numan was massively influential on industrial rock icon Trent Reznor, the phased and metallic minimalism of Radiohead, and the dystopian production of hip hop genius, the GZA. Gary Numan is a manifestation of electronic culture’s progressive nature to explore the limits of traditional sound and develop new mechanisms for expression. We are honored to name him the recipient of the 2016 Moog Innovation Award.
Gary Numan will be joining us at Moogfest 2016 to receive his Innovation Award and perform a 3-night residency of the 'Machine Trilogy'. Tickets available here."
And via Gary Numan on @numanofficial: "I've just read that I'm being given the 2016 Moog Award for Innovation. I can't tell you how proud I am. I started this journey with a Moog."
How cool is that. Congrats to Gary Numan!
