Metallica vs Electronica - Live jammin' with Pyramid, Elektron Octatrack, Moog and more

Published on Nov 25, 2017 Rickinger B.

"Okay, here is the story ;-) Many many years ago i had long hair and played loud music with my guitar. Heavy metal was my life in the eighties. Now i am into electronic music, but my heart never stopped beating for my heroes in this time. And so i had the idea to make this two passions into one project. I hope you'll like this first song. And if you want, leave a comment. If you like this idea, i will make more songs with more bands. Perhaps you have also a favorite band of this time and genre, please feel free to comment it. I will make the new song with your heroes!

Used Gear:
Squarp Pyramid - Sequencer
Nord A1 - Organ, Deep Monopad
Moog SubPhatty - Bass, of course ;-)
Dreadbox murmux v2 - Euclidian Synths
Modular System - Pad in the break
Elektron Octatrack - Metallica and Modular Samples
Elektron Analog Four - Arpeggiator and Rising Chords
Elektron Analog Rytm - Drums

"For your consideration is this vintage 1976 Musitronics Mu-Tron Bi-Phase electric guitar phaser effects pedal. This particular example, (serial number 04674), is in excellent all original condition and includes the original C-100 Opti-Pot control pedal (serial number 1428). With significant provenance, this unit belonged to Elektra Records (with Elektra labeled inventory numbers 1190 and 1193) and was used by numerous artists on dozens of classic records. While no exact list was documented nor compiled by studio engineers, the potential list of artists who had access to this unit reads like who's who of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees, including; Bob Dylan, Queen, The Stooges, Television, The Cars, Tom Waits, X, Metallica, Jackson Browne, and The Eagles..."

New Mobile Application Transforms Every Guitar Player into a Rock Prodigy

"Interactive App Teaches and Hones Skills Using a Real Guitar, Any Guitar

LOS ANGELES (Jan. 12, 2011) – All guitar players, from beginner to advanced, can now reach prodigy status with the launch of a new mobile application, Rock Prodigy™, that teaches users how to play a real guitar, any guitar, with the help of an Apple® iPhone®, iPad® or iPod® Touch. Using polyphonic pitch-recognition, Rock Prodigy allows all guitar players to learn, experience and absorb the music from legendary rock guitarists including James Hetfield of Metallica, Jerry Garcia of Grateful Dead and Joe Trohman of Fall Out Boy.

The app immerses users in original master recordings of popular guitar-centric songs, while simultaneously providing real-time feedback as players strum along with a real guitar. The interactive app also has the ability to auto-pause and uses tab-like performance cues for all four levels of play, which show precise rhythm, timing and note durations with real-time interaction and performance evaluation.

Allowing players to learn on the go, Rock Prodigy requires no additional hardware as guitarists can play directly into their mobile devices using the built-in microphone, a standard headset with microphone or a basic line-in guitar input adapter.

'Rock Prodigy was truly created for musicians by musicians,” said Harold Lee, co-founder of Rock Prodigy and CEO of The Way of H, Inc. “By combining mobile technology, modern apps and a guitarist’s favorite bands, Rock Prodigy offers a solution to the usual hang-ups of learning guitar. Guitar masters can also learn a thing or two.'

Fusing mobile technology with a real guitar, Rock Prodigy is available for free in the iTunes App Store, with premium feature packs starting at $9.99. More information at RockProdigy.com.

About The Way of H, Inc.
The Way of H, Inc. is a music technology company based in Los Angeles focused on changing the way people learn, play and interact with music. Rock Excerpts on the Atari Hotz - Either End of August, Soul Crusher and The Unforgiven -Roland 2080

Published on Jan 12, 2020 Clint Thompson

"It’s time to finally start playing the instrument of the future, in the future! #2020 Here are a few rock excerpts played by myself on an Atari Hotz Wing II MIDI Controller through the Roland 2080 synth. As you can hear, the Roland 2080 (circa 1996) is quite capable of playing some heavy guitar tunes and really nice sounding bass for the Bruford cover!

1. Either End of August by Bill Bruford
2. Soul Crusher by White Zombie
3. The Unforgiven by Metallica"

Mega Metallic Eurorack Percussion (& beyond!!) // Entity Metalloid from Steady State Fate

video upload by DivKid

"Here we have the newest Eurorack module in the Entity range from Steady State Fate … METALLOID PERCUSSION. This is a simple set of controls for what is under the hood and much more complex circuit for synthesising metallic and noise based percussion. There’s 3 analogue oscillators which get ring modulated alongside having an FM bus for the most metally (move over Metallica) of metal noise sounds! This metallic noise synthesis is then split into two voices with multimode filters, VCAs and envelopes to control and create a huge range of percussion sounds. The trigger inputs are also dynamic, offering a velocity style (loud to quiet) dynamic and musical response to varying input material.

In the video I get snares, claps, rides, crashes, hi hats, gongs, video game coin collection sounds, Star Wars pod racers and plenty more! It’s not a clone of anything, nor is it meant to make one sound. But it’s easily bendable and shapeable to take the place of many classic percussion sounds. Check out the sounds in the timing index below and skip around as you like."

How to Make Your Sound Sing with Vocoders

"The vocoder has been a novelty staple (if that isn't an oxymoron) of pop music for more than 30 years. Even if you've never heard the word vocoder, you've heard the smoothly sexy yet oddly alien sounds that emanate from this device. In the '70s and '80s, vocoder was used on songs by Kraftwerk, Stevie Wonder, Bon Jovi, Donna Summer, Phil Collins, Laurie Anderson, Pink Floyd, Styx, and many other artists. (See the "Famous Vocoder Songs" sidebar.) In more recent years, Foo Fighters, Metallica, Beck, Britney Spears, Madonna, Marilyn Manson, and other pop icons have dialed up the sound of the vocoder."
