"This is a really calm and minimalistic improv by the river to welcome the beginning of fall. First time with a Novation Circuit in the mix.

More details:

- iPad (Air 1) loaded with AUM, IK Multimedia iGrand, SoundScaper, Amazing Noises' Dedalus and Reverb, Kymatica AUFX:Space/Dub/Push/PeakQ, Borderlands Granular, HoldernessMedia Crystalline

- Novation Circuit is equipped with custom drum samples and synth patches and at the same time acts as a midi controller for iGrand on the iPad

- iGrand is fed into Borderlands for some realtime granular treatment

- Circuit’s audio and midi outputs are plugged into a battery powered Roland UA-22, which is connected to the iPad via CCK

- Recording is done inside of AUM on the iPad, slightly postprocessed with Positive Grid’s Final Touch

- SoundScaper on the iPad is loaded with field recordings of this very place, making some noisy background ambience

- Filming is done with an iPhone5S (slowmos) and an Olympus OMD-Em10 with a Panasonic 25mm 1.7 + ND Filter

- Edited with iMovie for iPad"

Introducing the SYNTH-WERK SW 6401M Bode Ring Modulator 5U Module

"It was probably electronic music pioneer Karlheinz Stockhausen’s use of the ring modulator that inspired an entire generation of rock musicians. Stockhausen’s Mixture (1964) for example, was written for a ring modulated symphony orchestra.

Ring modulation is often used to simulate the sounds of tuned percussion instruments that produce inharmonic frequency spectra, such as bells and chimes. It can also produce timbres that are difficult to achieve by any other method of synthesis.

Among all signal processors the multiplier-type ring modulator takes a unique position, since it is capable of converting existing sounds into new sounds with entirely different overtone spectra.

The SW 6401M is based on the original design of Harald Bode from 1967. The design is a circuit involving a ring of diodes and transformers forming a four quadrant multiplier. To accomplish a one unit module, the transformers UTC-A20 have been replaced by smaller vintage UTC SO 15P transformers"

Roland VP-03 Vocoder (2016) is the digital clone of the Roland VP-330 Vocoder Plus from the year 1979

- ACB synthesis = virtual analog synthesis like the AIRA/Boutique series
- polyphony: 6 voices
- USB Bus & Midi In Out
- strings, human voices, vocoder, chord memory, step sequencer.

This demo video shows the possibilities and the sound character. The sound is a bit different to the VP-330. More clean and less the lushness but not bad.
