Moog Officially Introduces the Moog Synthesizer IIIp

Published on Feb 20, 2018 Moog Music Inc

"Watch as Anthony Gonzalez and Joe Berry of M83 patch in and explore the Moog Synthesizer IIIp."

"In the late 1960s, Bob Moog and a team of ten skilled technicians began hand-building cutting-edge musical instruments that they called 'synthesizers' -- instruments that would radically change the landscape of music.

The world got turned on to the idea of the synthesizer -- and electronic music -- through the visionary works of experimental musicians during the late 60s and early 70s. Wendy Carlos composed her sonic masterpiece Switched On Bach using the electronics of a customized Moog Synthesizer III--creating space for artists like George Harrison to employ his Moog Synthesizer IIIp on the Beatles’ Abbey Road sessions, and Isao Tomita to shape the sounds of 'classitronica' using the first Synthesizer IIIp in Japan on Snowflakes Are Dancing.

Although production of Synthesizer IIIp was discontinued in 1973, these original modular systems designed by Bob Moog are inimitable in sonic character and remain highly coveted for their limitless reconfigurability and vibrantly organic musicality.

Nearly fifty years later, we are proud to announce the return of the Moog Synthesizer IIIp to production for a very limited time.

Every Synthesizer IIIp will be built using all-original documentation, art, and circuit board files. Moog Synthesizer IIIp production is highly limited. Only 40 units will be produced and sold worldwide.

DUAL CIRCADIAN DIRTY SWING RHYTHMS

DUAL CIRCADIAN DIRTY SWING RHYTHMS from Station 252 on Vimeo.

"Dual Circadian Rhythms. This is a modified version of the patch from the previous two videos. With a second CR I have enough trigger outs for my intended live system. In this version I changed some of the clock channels and distribution, modified the patch quite a bit actually. The patch is not even complete as I run out of long cables and couldn't connect Z8000 (to be clocked from the Trigger Riot and used as a modulation sequencer)

My main goal is to make the system as comfortable and easy to play as possible without compromising sound and music. The main sound sources were carefully chosen over the years, a lot of modules were discarded as unsuitable. what remained is the core: Tiptop Audio drum modules, all of them. I find them great for the purpose and it is very rare that I even like other drum modules and even less use them in the studio and even less live. At the moment I occasionally use the new MFB Bass522 bass drum - it is a very good alternative to the 808 / 909 bass drums and it fits nicely into the rest of the 808/909 sound. Tiptop BD808 is still my main bass drum. Tiptop 808 / 909 drum system is enforced with 4 Tiptop ONEs (one of them being TG-ONE), two loosely divided between percussion and hi hat sounds sounds, one is playing chords and TG-ONE is playing all sorts of Throbbing Gristle samples - surprisingly in the video TG-ONE plays the long dub chord sound...

After playing live for some time we've decided to split our duties, so each of us can concentrate on what he/she does best, so while Jessica is playing all the analog (modular) synths, I concentrate on drums and sampled sounds.

Recently I also added Piston Honda mk2 for a very rare time when I really want to add something other than drums or samples to what I'm hearing at the moment (I'm talking pure live improvisation) and so: I am not going to play live all those sounds at the same time, I am going to add either chords OR long TG samples OR Piston Honda to what Jessy is playing, maximum two but never three sounds simultaneously. This video is actually a test of patch, proof of concept if you will, I test ergonomics, ease of use patch logistics and of coarse sound. As I use the same sound sources during the whole live set (we tend to play longer and longer sets) I need to find a good way to process those sounds. I'm very happy with the fx, samples, percussion and bass drums. Hats on the other hand... I'm getting bored of running them through a Roland Demora, Erica Fusion Delay is also not a very good match for the hats. For Piston Honda I need to try another patch as well. But I will give both another try to be sure.
