"This modular synth was hand-built in it’s totally in Mexico city. The spring reverb that integrates the front of the panel is a mechanic device, it has a structure of springs that drives the sound through them and generates reverberation. The ideas of having the spring externally exposed is so that they can be touched to create textures or noises upon the reverb effect.
The patchbay is on the left side and the control area is situated to the right. in some way it’s more confortable to play the synthesizer when the knobs are far-off the patchbay and control area.
Additionally it has 11 modules. Here’s a technical description on each one of them:
- Two VCO (voltage controlled oscillator.)
Each one with four waveforms that you can use simultaneously (square, saw, triangle and sine), CV input, FM and PWM. The FM input has an attenuator.
- VCF (voltage controlled filter.)
A four-pole and 24dB low pass filter. It has two inputs and, CV input and a FM with an attenuator.
- VCF (voltage controlled filter.)
A variable filter based on the original Steiner filter design. The two Low and high outputs can be used simultaneously. It has two inputs, CV input and a FM with an attenuator.

Getting to the Root of Scales
Published on Apr 17, 2019 Intellijel
Intellijel Scales
"Scales is an 8hp dual-channel note quantizer and step sequencer. Fundamentally, it takes an input voltage, quantizes it to notes in a user-defined scale, and sends that quantized voltage to an output, where you can use it as a melodic pitch source for oscillators or any other module that expects to see discreet note values at its input.
Scales goes far beyond the fundamental, allowing you unprecedented control of the pitches and intervals hiding inside your control voltages; turn LFO’s into arpeggiators; random voltages into harmonic counterpoint; and unquantized external CV sequencers into chromatically tuned note sequencers.
Quantization can be locked to an incoming trigger. There are a number of trigger output options as well, ranging from no triggering (good for pitch shifting drones); through triggers that sync with either of the two outputs (or both); to a trigger or gate transmitted in sync with one sent to the module’s TRIG input."
Strange Patching: Phasing Simulation with QPAS

MAKEN0ISE Strange Patching
"In the section of his book that covers Phasing, Allen Strange uses a series of band pass filters to illustrate the concept. As he writes,
“A spectrally rich signal is taken, in parallel, to three or more band pass filters. The filter outputs, the three pass bands, are mixed at unity gain with the original unprocessed spectrum. Each filter must be offset to a different center frequency.. the filter should not be allowed to go into oscillation.
“A slow repetitive control voltage such as a sinewave from an LFO will then cause each filter to sweep through the applied signal, selectively passing different portions of the spectrum…. By mixing the pass-bands with the original spectrum, there will then be varying degrees of phase-cancellation in the signal, producing continually varying multiple notch cancellations or nulls. The effect will be more pronounced if the control voltage for each filter is attenuated a bit differently so that the nulls are not exactly in parallel.”
Allen Strange wrote the book on modular synthesizers in the 1970s. Electronic Music: Systems, Techniques, and Controls. Unfortunately since the expanded 1982 edition, it has never been reprinted, and in today’s landscape where more people have access to modular synths than ever before, very few have access to the knowledge contained within. This video series will explore patches both basic and advanced from Strange’s text. Even the simplest patches here yield kernels of knowledge that can be expanded upon in infinite ways. I have been heavily influenced by Strange since long before I became a modular synth educator. Please share this knowledge far and wide."

Loopop review: What is BUZZZY?
Published on Apr 17, 2019 loopop
"BUZZZY! is priced around the Volca range, is smaller, and yet is four part multi-timbral, with a filter and space or delay effects per part, four different sound engines (Pulse virtual analog, FM, "Bitcrushed wave" and Noise, with up to 16 voice polyphony, and it sounds quite good too, especially for a digital synth."

Leafcutter John - Against The Clock
Published on Apr 17, 2019 FACTmagazine
"For the past 20 years, John Burton – aka Leafcutter John – has been at the forefront of experimental composition, constructing his own technological systems out of hardware and software to make ornate, complex electronica.
Ahead of the release of his seventh album on Border Community this week, we visited Burton at his studio to see what he could create with his one-of-a-kind setup in just 10 minutes, using Max, a home-made light interface and modular system to manipulate a collection of field recordings. The result – beautiful chaos.
Yes! Come Parade With Us is released on Border Community on April 19."
