Twisted Electrons HapiNES-L: "Action Level"
Published on May 8, 2020 Kris Lennox
"Rumour has it Alex has a new device coming out soon.... In the meantime, here's the hapiNES-L with a short 'action level' track I wrote. Good old 8-bit retro gaming style.
I'd have spent more time with the CC etc (...and the decay. The 3rd phrase ends with the same note twice, but the decay is so long that only the first note can be heard), but this is just a quick upload/piece to illustrate something for someone.
In terms of the MIDI thru box: I'm powering the hapiNES via USB mains; the MIDI i/o from the laptop is running into the thru box, then the MIDI cable from the thru is going into the hapiNES. Audio sent out from here to the Tascam."

Who Loves Arpeggiators? | Tutorial and Technique with Roland S-10
Published on May 7, 2020 Espen Kraft
"The song 'Raspberry Flames' can be found here:
https://espenkraft.bandcamp.com/album...
The Roland S-10 with it's great in-built arpeggiator, exclusive to the S-10, is capable of arpeggiating through each of the 4 memory banks in the loop. It makes it possible to create very interesting soundscapes and backgrounds.
I use only 2 chords throughout the song, Bb and Eb and variations around that to add the odd note to the arpeggiator. Throw in the odd note here and there, it can make all the difference.
Additional bass off the Korg MS10 and pads/strings from the Roland JX-8P.
Everything is recorded LIVE in 3 passes, from start to finish."
Synth Rorschach #73: GEM SPA
Spotted this one on Seth Elgart's Twitter feed, @selgart:
"*heavy sigh* Been going there for probably more than 45 years, since the 1970s. The best egg creams. Period. #gemspa"
---
So... This one is pretty nuts. I was curious when the black & white image was taken so I zoomed in and started looked for cues. If you look carefully you will see the synth connection. If you give up see this post for a tip.
P.S. I don't want to give too much away. If you get stuck leave a comment and I'll give you one hint. And if you do get this one, please don't give it directly away in the comments. Just say you got it.
There is a cool reference to synth history here.
A 16-BIT videogame's song made with OP-Z by Teenage Engineering
Published on May 6, 2020 Lo-fi Pask
"I was playing Streets of Rage 4, I felt inspired and wanted to make a song for a videogame. As I'm "an old man", it's obviously thought for a 16-BIT era game! :-) Can't say the genre, maybe a cyberpunk side scrolling platform/action game. I also put some retrogaming consoles in the scene, like the original GameBoy and my first synth/love, the Pocket Operator PO-20 Arcade. Special guest: Gizmo, from Gremlins!
Wish you'll enjoy the video. :-D"
