As an avid enthusiast of Buchla format modules, I couldn’t resist attending the Buchla & Friends event in downtown Los Angeles. Armed with my camera, I set out to capture the essence of such a unique gathering.

The highlight of the event was the M.E.M.S talk by Chip Flynn and Mark Milanovich, which delved into the legacy of Don Buchla. Their dedication to recreating the original designs is nothing short of awe-inspiring. I hope this HDR video provides a vivid glimpse into their meticulous craftsmanship.

Deckard's Dream and Ring Mod

"Some clips of my Deckard's Dream synth using 4 different ring mods (Rachael, Moog MF-102, Behringer 2600, and Melda Production M Ring Mod). My favorite overall is the Moog but the Rachael is better suited to this since it has a built-in envelope.

I tried to use some performance aspects to modulate the ring mod such as velocity, mod wheel, aftertouch, and pedals. This is an area I'd like to explore further. It's a challenge to get ring mod to sound good past the AM settings but I tried a few different things here."

"The OB-8 is fully programmable and loaded with powerful analog sound. Dedicated knobs, sliders, and a traditional layout make programming easy and hands-on. Each individual voice can be de-tuned for a very massive sound. Syncable VCOs and a nice arpeggiator are also available. It has a switchable 2 or 4-pole VCF (filter) with ADSR. Many LFO modulation controls and effects are possible. The OB-8 also introduced a second layer of programming functions - hit the 'Page 2' button and all front panel controls were assigned to an entire second set of parameters!"
